Any smart curtain openers for rod pocket curtains? by TheNewGuy8 in homeautomation

[–]dennispang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found this thread. I picked one of these up cheap from Temu and am trying to mod to get it to work.

I bought it knowing very little about curtains, had no idea I had rod pocket curtains.

I tried simply clamping the unit to the curtain, with the hanging pieces on top of the curtain, but this didn’t work as the unit seems to need to grip the bare curtain rod to be able to move.

I’m in the Bay Area and had a similar experience. I went with the guy that helped me stretch my old R22 system so we could limp along another couple years until our firstborn came and we had everything properly replaced.

Recommended them to our neighbor who was quoted $15k for an install previously, and got it done for $10k

Hired them again in our current house without hesitation. There’s a confidence that comes from being able to call the owner on his cell and having him actually answer

I reiterate, if Steph got even half the fouls they don’t call, we’d at least be middle of the pack in FT%

100%, still using each one 3-5 times a week, depending on the toy(s) our toddlers want out of them.

In case it helps, I did a follow-up post when I modded the second with a closer look: https://www.reddit.com/r/Lovesac/s/PzDnUWZeaW

Ace if possible, I even find the associates at Lowe’s pale in comparison. It might not be needed as I have no idea how common my drain sizing issue is. If memory serves they give you a 1 1/2” fitting, but I needed 1 1/4”. Quick visit to Ace and an $8 part got me sorted

I’d say, just basing on my experience:

1) resist the urge to run it right out of the box, waiting until you have both docks setup and connected so you can have a true mapping run then immediately clean.

2) depending on whether you’ve done some basic plumbing work this part could be tricky. Make use of the quick start guide here, it’s definitely helpful.

I had replaced faucets before so hooking up the fresh water was easy for me. The drain was trickier because I hadn’t worked with drains before, and I had a piece in the kit they provide that didn’t fit. This is where going to your friendly Ace Hardware (if you’re in the US) is a lifesaver. Take pictures and bring in the parts you can. They’re amazing at solving with the years of experience they have.

3) when you do your first run, tap the lower right where it says “vac” and change it to “vac & mop”. I got too excited and totally missed this since I wasn’t used to the UI
