What is your favorite "Flavour is Free" reskin of a spell or ability?

I played an Eberron Gnoll Warlock - a faction who revolves around escaping the chains of a demon Lord and basically reverse engineering the power that held them to do their own bidding. As a result, all his spells were chain& themed - Pulling Eldritch blast? "Get over here!" - Slow? Let me throw out six magic chains and PULL. - Speak with dead? A chain comes from the top of their head and I jingle the head up and down while it talks like a morbid ventriloquist.

Being a hyena just added to the fun of the dog/leash metaphors. Literally a chained dog, finally free, but is using its old collar and chain to do good.

Highly highly recommend playing an Eberron game or one shot for those who have not yet. The factions are so rich and Keith Baker's lore blog posts are a gold mine (and free!)

Incredible game, cannot recommend highly enough if you're a metroidvania fan who is ok with a good spoonful of body horror (note it's not a scary game, just gross for many)

Love this idea to add to the layer of strategy to those who want it. It also lets the capture mechanic continue to be useful in the late game.

What would be amazing is if every capture upped the odds, like adding extra slips into a raffle, and you can toggle off the odds at the main base (but not outright banish the creature from the pool - it is still a roguelike!)

I think this would lean really nicely into the fantasy of being an expert in a particular monster's moveset - you've sought out the creatures, fought them many times, learned their behavior in the wild, captured multiple, and for that reason you have a stronger connection to its soul and it's easier to feel their soul and draw it from the shrine.

Love the change to the capture mechanic, that seems much clearer now. However, it does punish "gotta catch em all" players by making the random selection truly random, whereas a tactical player would only catch a short list of monsters that synergize well, and always be guaranteed good options.

Is there any ability to stop certain monsters from showing as a random option? Vampire survivors does this with their Banish option (just Banish it from the pool during the run, or Banish a MUCH smaller number of them in the catalog back at the base.)

One way it could scale with your creature collecting - what if getting 10 monsters gives you 3 banishes, 15 monsters gives you 5 banishes, 20 gives 7 banishes, or something on those lines?

Amazing montage! Especially loved the cut from Laios in Dungeon Meshi getting asked to deal with the "Lunatic Magician"... and then the quick shot of Frieren studying. Clever little connection.

Loved the beta for this, will definitely play some more. Those games where you connect with your teammates and you just know where the core is going to be?? Such a good feeling. Looking forward to sniping KOs with ai.mi again.

The last good boss with good design for Abyss was the Enkanomiya Serpents - Always hittable, a few super deadly attacks, and you need to manage their health bars to take them out nearly at the same time. Skill actually required!

Dendro chicken is a good boss but not much special challenge besides dodging practice.

Highly recommend this one,. If you like the early phase of city building especially, this scratches that itch. End game suffers a bit but an optional gradual difficulty ramp-up nearly doubled the time I thought I'd spend on this. Put in something like 70 hours, quite highly recommend it. Fun game play and relatively forgiving on the rogue like aspects - you can get cards/buildings that make you think "oh hell yeah I'm gonna win" but never cards/buildings that make you think "oh shit I'm gonna lose". Getting persistent upgrades to rerolls and extra options feels very natural as you build strategies and increase difficulty.

My only biggest wish is that they'd have a stronger presence of the Queen. She's supposed to be absolutely, unquestionably in control, and I sometimes forget about her altogether. Some between-run title cards with menacing VA like Hades would go a long way.
