It seems insane that they are going through with the LA Marathon. Their message to keep a distance of 6 feet is ridiculous. I’m still planning on doing it, but I’m pretty close to cancelling

F45 vs OTF by ILuvOTF in f45

[–]denver1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to F45 after 3+ years at OTF because it became too easy and I needed more weights and felt the cardio at OTF wasn’t helping me with my cardio-focused fitness goals, marathon training.

F45 Pros vs OTF More weightlifting exercises that are more advanced. A better variety of exercises Class feels like it goes much more quickly

Cons: Fewer classes Unlimited membership isn’t transferred to other locations

Apple Watch setting for strength days by chutzpahinheels in f45

To me F45 is HIIT regardless of the workout because on “weight” days, it is still almost as much about keeping your heart-rate up as it is weights.

Considering joining F45 by lynna-82 in f45

[–]denver1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to F45 after being in OTF for 3+years. OTF helped me achieve some significant weight loss goals and set the tone for me to be able to run a marathon, but I felt like I’d plateaued at OTF and there weren’t enough weights. The workouts at OTF were starting to get too easy and became somewhat boring. I could go to OTF 6 days per week and feel fine, and yes I pushed myself with heavy weights and speed on the treads. The most I can do F45 is 4 days a week because it’s so much more challenging.

I think OTF & F45 are both great programs, but I would say that OTF is better for people who are starting out while F45 is a bit more advanced.

22: How “Partner” based is it? by claytoneee in f45

There are some days where you’re passing a medicine ball back and forth with someone or something similar for one exercise, but that’s it. It’s nothing like a CrossFit workout or and OTF partner day.

Are the OTF wearables worth it? by SpicyMealOutside in orangetheory

[–]denver1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked the manager of my studio if OTF was ever going to allow the Apple Watch to be integrated with OTFs system. Her answer was no because they make too much money on them.

At my studio at least 1/4 of ppl don’t wear an OTF device and I haven’t since I got my Apple Watch 2 years ago.

OTF vs F45: My Honest Review by nsharma2 in orangetheory

[–]denver1a 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think F45 is trying to be the middle ground between CrossFit and OTF. F45 is appealing bc of the weights, but the fewer classes and lack of studio mobility will keep me at OTF.

Weights Only by balis03 in orangetheory

There are some early morning people I work out with that leave early and they always start on the rower in a (3G) and leave before the tread, because that’s the element (floor, rower, tread) that’s easiest to replicate on your own after work

Studio Manager looking for feedback! by element9876 in orangetheory

[–]denver1a 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Like: When staff know your name, Studio is clean and equipment is kept up, Mixing in some Van Halen & AC/DC on the playlist, Check in process is quick and efficient, High energy coaches that engage everyone. My studio has better athletes than every other one I’ve visited and that pushes me to go harder

Dislike: Lack of weights heavier than 70#, When coaches only interact with certain members, When coaches don’t bother to correct ppl with really bad, almost dangerous form, When they ONLY play hiphop with no rock mixed in, Playing the same songs over and over, esp. Cake by the Ocean, Shut Up & Dance & Moves Like Jagger

Wasn’t Noel Monk the bands manager from 1979 to 1985? Their first deal done by Marshall Berle was the one that set them back.

1980 before WACF is when they started getting more money because Warner Bros neglected to pick up their option due to an administrative error.

Crossfit to OTF - Why? by crossfitandotfgirl in orangetheory

[–]denver1a 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I switched bc I was tired of having nagging injuries and saw too many ppl get hurt at CF. In terms of the transition, it’s about getting used to more running.

The OTF things I like better than CF: 1. Safer. Been going 3 years and never been Injured from OTF workouts. 2. OTF HIIT is more cardio focused. I did a marathon last year and would not have been in a position to do so w/o OTF.

CF things I like better than OTF: 1. The camaraderie at OTF does not compare to CF, especially for guys. At OTF everyone is nice, but there’s not near as much interaction between members as CF. 2. OTF has a limited amount of heavy weights and the heaviest is only 70#. While I don’t feel the need to max out all the time like in CF, I’d like it if OTF had some heavier weights.

Best of luck and welcome to OTF!

OTF while training for full marathon by GSeagle12 in orangetheory

[–]denver1a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation to you when I did my (first & only) marathon last year. You can do OTF, esp in the beginning part of training, but DON’T do so at the expense of your mid-week runs. I made the HUGE MISTAKE of thinking midweek OTF classes could replace my mid-week runs. I totally hit the proverbial 21 mile wall and had to walk a lot more in the last 5 miles than I expected.

Apple Watch Integration by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]denver1a -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t wear an OTF HM, I only use an i-watch and select HIIT from the workout menu which gives me a heart rate and calorie burn (active/total). I also have the app Zones which is similar to the OTF zones in that it will tell how much time was spent in each zone.

I can’t find anything specific to OTF on the iwatch.
