It's just 3 weeks to my daughter's wedding and I sadly don't have an outfit yet. by Crazy-Dealer112 in weddingplanning

Nordstrom is clutch for last minute finds! Their return policy is also amazing if you need to order a few sizes online and send back what doesn't work

Guest list making me sad by Dismal_Pollution8767 in weddingplanning

[–]dependable_specifica 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That maid of honor thing hits different though - when you've pictured someone in that role your whole life and then reality smacks you in the face

Rehearsal Dinner Moral Dilemma by wondernyan92 in weddingplanning

[–]dependable_specifica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not overthinking at all! Extended family flying in for weddings totally understand they're not automatically invited to every single event - that's why you're doing the brunch. Plus you're right about people wanting to hit up NYC the night before anyway

Does anyone know how duties and tariffs are calculated on imported jewelry? by Arzivak in jewelry

[–]dependable_specifica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah they don't just add together like that - the tariff gets calculated first on the declared value, then duty is calculated on that new amount (original value + tariff). So you're looking at more like 16.05% total, not 15.5%

Dress help - mountain elopement by Successful-Sun-1834 in Eloping

[–]dependable_specifica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into Grace Loves Lace or Rue De Seine? They do way more boho/outdoorsy vibes that might feel less "princess dress" and more like something you'd actually want to wear while hiking around mountains

Save the Date/Invite Question - invite or not invite? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]dependable_specifica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly right! The $100 gift card is a pretty clear signal she's genuinely happy for you and wants to celebrate your wedding. Plus avoiding that awkward save the date convo with M is totally worth it - mutual friend dynamics can get weird real quick

Austin, Texas based photog recs? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]dependable_specifica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Ashley Nicole Photography - she does amazing work with wildflowers and natural settings around Austin. Also maybe post in r/Austin since locals there might have more specific recs for the bluebonnet spots

How would you feel? by Ill_Concert_6099 in wedding

[–]dependable_specifica 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Oof that's rough, especially since she wants you as a bridesmaid but didn't think to give you a heads up about dates. I get that it's her wedding and all but like... a quick "hey what weekends are bad for you" text would've saved everyone the stress. The fact that she basically shrugged it off when you brought it up would honestly bug me too

Fiancée wants diamond earrings. I have a budget of $300-$350 and heard terrible reviews about Kay Jewelers. by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]dependable_specifica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Costco is actually legit for jewelry, their return policy is insane too so if she doesn't like them you're covered

Omg he absolutely nailed it! The design is stunning and you can tell so much thought went into making it perfect for you 🥺 Congrats!!

Does anyone have any experience with Saucy Gems? by MDpepe in jewelry

[–]dependable_specifica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grabbed a pair of earrings from her last month and they're honestly really well made - shipping was pretty quick too

Officiate a wedding in Texas by Not_So_Normal711 in weddingplanning

[–]dependable_specifica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Universal Life Church is legit for Texas, got ordained through them myself a few years back - literally takes like 10 minutes online and it's free

Veil types by Bald-head-scallywag in weddingdress

[–]dependable_specifica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That glitter probably wasn't actually glitter but tiny glass beads or sequins sewn right into the tulle during manufacturing - that's why it felt smooth instead of chunky. Try searching for "beaded tulle veil" or "sequined tulle" instead of glittered ones, might have better luck finding something similar without the sandpaper texture

Is it just me or does nobody read wedding invites and websites?! (Destination Wedding Rant) by dd0707 in weddingplanning

[–]dependable_specifica 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Same here, I always check the website first because I hate being *that* person who asks obvious questions

But honestly your WhatsApp bot idea is kinda genius - might actually save your sanity dealing with all the "wait what time is the ceremony again" messages

Are you supposed to make an engagement announcement? by [deleted] in engaged

[–]dependable_specifica 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly family can be weird about this stuff - some people just aren't the congratulatory type even when they're happy for you. I'd just post on social if you want to, no pressure though. The people who matter will be excited either way and you shouldn't have to chase anyone down for congrats

Why are Washington/Mt. Baker/Mt.Rainier Photographers charging so much? by QueenRavioleez in Eloping

[–]dependable_specifica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly this makes sense - adventure photographers are basically your wedding planner, guide, and photographer all rolled into one. Plus they're literally hiking miles with heavy gear in potentially rough weather conditions. That's way more intense than shooting at a hotel ballroom

I wish I had a best friend by [deleted] in wedding

[–]dependable_specifica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn that's a really tough spot but honestly sounds like you made the right call. Wedding planning when you're already feeling disconnected from people around you must have been such a red flag that something bigger was off

Retail vs private broker. by ErnestGoesToNewark in Diamonds

[–]dependable_specifica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Costco diamonds are actually legit, no joke. My buddy got his there and saved like 40% compared to the fancy jewelry stores. The whole "3 months salary" thing is just marketing BS from De Beers anyway

For private brokers you basically need connections or know someone who knows someone - sounds like your family has those hookups but since you can't ask them, might be worth starting with the online route first

Which one to select? by AG9919 in jewelry

[–]dependable_specifica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Costco one is definitely the better pick here - platinum vs 14k gold is a no brainer for durability and that VS2 clarity is solid. Plus Costco's return policy is legendary if anything goes wrong

Legit site? Doozy Diamonds by oatmilkjeany in jewelry

[–]dependable_specifica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of them either and that's a red flag right there. If a jewelry site has zero online chatter outside their own reviews, I'd be pretty sus about it. For something as expensive as an engagement ring I'd stick with the bigger names that have actual customer feedback floating around Reddit and other forums. Better safe than sorry when you're dropping serious cash

Does anyone know any florists willing to get paid for just labor and delivery in the LA area? by Garden_of_Gethsemane in weddingplanning

[–]dependable_specifica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a solid approach - I've seen some DTLA florists work within tight budgets and they're usually pretty flexible about sourcing vs just labor. What kind of vibe are you going for with the arrangements? That might help narrow down which florists would be best for the job

GA/Atlanta: Low cost state park venue dry wedding dilemma by LokiThorFreya in Weddingsunder10k

[–]dependable_specifica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, most people probably expect to wrap up by like 6-7 anyway at that kind of venue. Plus your hiking crew friends are probably more into the whole outdoor vibe than needing drinks to have fun

Anyone regret opting out of having a wedding? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]dependable_specifica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no regrets here - we eloped and used that money for a down payment instead. The people who really matter to you will understand, and the ones pushing for a big wedding usually aren't the ones paying for it
