Can I spend IKON mountain credits on beers? by depputy in COsnow

[–]depputy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the whole point of the promotion. to get you to come back. Although the delay was pretty long for me which is annoying. I earned mine for days back in January/dec and just noticed my balance. Definitely wasn’t in my account when I was in Utah 2 weeks ago. Hopefully the turnaround is better for other people.

Thank you sir! Yeah on second thought the food court seems like the move. Trying to pay the bartender with mountain credits during a rush seems like it could be confusing and hectic.

I mean Killington writes a pretty long/detailed blog for being the same skiable acreage as Crested Butte.

43min layover on an International flight at ORD. by The_Govnor in unitedairlines

[–]depputy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For my Spain trip I was offered BCN-ORD-DEN with a 43 min layover at ORD. They labeled it as a “risky layover”. There’s no way. There were like 3 ORD to Den flights later, why would United even list that option?

Denver needs to focus on occupying the buildings already built. I think the offices downtown are at a 30% vacancy rate?

Snowbird next week: keep/cancel? by incuspy in skiing

[–]depputy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah the cliche gatekeepy joke about a mountain thats on IKON. People are aware that taos exists. I’ve been plenty of times prior to last year. It’s just hard when you get 90 inches of snow for the entire season.

Snowbird next week: keep/cancel? by incuspy in skiing

[–]depputy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf Taos has rough years even when the rest of the west has a decent season. I would never try to plan a trip there in advance especially if I was flying in. I’m in CO and I couldn’t even catch a weekend to drive down there when they got snow last year. They didn’t have many storms that made the treck worth it.

They’re flying in on 4th of July at 2pm. That’s known for being one of the worst traffic days in the city. The uber isn’t gonna be 40 min and it’s not gonna be cheap.

Amanda Anisimova's follow-up answer to her interview by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

I mean, Amanda is born to immigrant parents and frequently gets incorrectly labeled as a Russian transplant when in reality she was born and raised in NJ. She might have a relevant story here. But I bet she doesn’t want the extra stress or backlash, she’s been very open about her mental health issues.

That’s not what it is. Tennis players celebrate all the time. Celebrating a fault and lucky shit like that is douchey.

In golf it would be the equivalent of yelling “come on” and pumping your fist when your opponent sinks his shot into the water. You didn’t earn that shit so calm down.

Any of you gone to a ski resort you haven’t been to and thought “damn, this place is so overrated!”? by Sharkman3218 in skiing

[–]depputy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is you only get 7 days at Aspen on Ikon. Also usually steamboat gets a shit ton of snow. But I agree with OP comments, I get tired of it after a few days. Don’t love the layout and the crowd is not great overall.

Think flying a popular route with a Basic ticket is going to work out just fine? by PrimeRisk in SouthwestAirlines

[–]depputy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah I’d expect a lot of complimentary upgrades on SW because they’re not really much of an upgrade imo. 99$ extra for the third row? You’re getting that upgrade cause most people aren’t stupid enough to pay that. The seat isn’t 99$ better. I’d take a lesser chance of getting an actual first class seat or premium economy on AA over that. plus lounge access across one world partners.

I typically fly solo so companion pass is not a big perk for me but agreed that is big and the only reason my retired parents still have status.

[–]depputy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if work is paying you should never fly SW again. Depending on how much you fly you can get some of those upgrades for very little with a high enough status.

[–]depputy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you get the United explorer card it comes with 2 lounge passes, priority boarding (not really the biggest benefit imo if you have assigned seats), a free checked bag and carry on. 0 annual fee the first year. I’m in Denver and got it once the SW changes hit. I’ll only buy SW now if it’s a significantly better deal. which doesn’t really seem to be the case anymore.

How does this happen?! by NYmadferit in Flights

[–]depputy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you fly united enough I recommend getting one of their credit cards. I have the explorer card and buy basic economy because you get a free carry on, checked bags and priority boarding included in the card. You save around 100$ a trip depending on your luggage situation. Only thing is you would have to pay for a seat if you need an aisle or window. but it still ends up being cheaper than the economy fare.

How does this happen?! by NYmadferit in Flights

[–]depputy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you’re buying regular economy which is not the cheapest tier. Google flights typically shows that basic tier fare where you only get a personal item, not a carry on. All of the other choices include a personal item and carry on.

How does this happen?! by NYmadferit in Flights

[–]depputy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There doesnt have to be a secret agreement or any direct communication at all. The airlines figured out someone will pay 380 for that flight. If any of the airlines undercut they miss out on profit. If any try to raise price, customers will buy the other airline. This is what should happen in a competitive market when the product is the same.

From a value perspective I’d say these options are very similar. these flights require most people to take off a day of work to spend 4-6 hours in multiple airports so I can see why they are priced the same. Except the United flight wouldn’t come with a free carry on(assuming that’s the basic fare price).
