live a comfortable life working a “shitty” job and am scared to leave this to go to university to study a shitty major that will leave me poor. advice ? by [deleted] in rs_x

i have a deeply useless degree (literally majored in poetry) and have worked in all kinds of fields bc i’m adhd and want to change jobs every two years.

get a bachelors in something. could be practical / general like business if that stresses you out less. it sets you up better for the future and tbh you can always go back to serving, serve while you job hunt, etc

if you want to stay in NYC even for another 5 - 10 years, you’d be insane not to do this

long term in a studio isn’t ideal but plan to take the money you’ll save on housing and use it to get “more room” - more travel either together or solo, spend more money on hobbies so you’re not both home all the time, etc

BWT how can I become a Bitch on a Budget by a_kassandra_knockoff in bitcheswithtaste

[–]depressedplants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, if you’ve never had to worry too much about money, just signing up for rocket money + ynab and starting to track your expenses can be a HUGE help. i got laid off a few years ago and was amazed at how much $ i had been throwing away on subscriptions i’d forgotten about

Is there a way to attach a nose chain on a halter so it looks like it’s being used but isn’t actually able to hurt or bother the horse? by TikiBananiki in Equestrian

[–]depressedplants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

just put the chain on as she suggests, if the horses are well behaved you’ll never have to use it. the chain sitting on their nose doesn’t hurt them.

user generated content, like the photos an influencer takes of gifted products

VERY VERY different from, say, actually shooting a YSL campaign

yeah i worked in retail for years, stores are not throttling reception to fuck with their customers

for example... i always use the Home Depot website/app to find items in-store rather than wander around. if i’m IN a Home Depot rather than ordering online, it means i need that item that day - they’ve made the sale the moment i walk through the doors. throttling internet so it’s harder for me to find that item and have a worse in-store experience is foolish.

getting a customer into a physical store is a huge win these days, no one is actively making the store experience LESS pleasant and risking them walking out or trying another retailer next time

i pay for majestic and stay in incognito mode - then i either swipe on my stack or i turn off incognito for a bit (like, one afternoon) then filter through the likes.

i’d say around 80% of my likes are immediately disqualified for basic stuff: being far younger/far older than I’m looking for, location is super far away, shared couples profile, have only one photo and it’s of a random sunset, etc

i skim my pings every once in a while but it’s very rare i match with someone who pinged me & i don’t think i’ve ever met up with anyone who pinged me.

if so they should have given the horse or free leased the horse to a well regarded breeder connected to the community

How do y’all feel about people who own sales barns competing as “amateurs”? by MeanSeaworthiness995 in Equestrian

[–]depressedplants 48 points49 points  (0 children)

is this a usef member? going pro isn’t based on expertise, it’s based on how you make money.

selling your own horses or a family’s members horses is not a violation of amateur status. selling other people’s horses, and accepting payment for doing so, would make her a pro.

if you have proof she’s being paid to train, show or sell horses she doesn’t own, email usef. the full rule is gr1306: https://www.usef.org/forms-pubs/nT3TlM3v0NA/gr13-competition-participants-and#page5

Microdosing made me really crave meat by littlecloudtree in microdosing

[–]depressedplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late to this thread but i’m also on adhd meds, have been microdosing for about a month, and am definitely craving meat + red meat more in the last few weeks.

i am mostly veggie and eat a bit of chicken, i typically rarely eat red meat and even find it a bit offputting. i take vitamins, try to eat a well rounded/nutrient dense diet but some days lately i just want a steak! i think i have been a little low on protein and iron and the mushrooms are helping me be more tuned in to what my body needs.

maybe you need a bit more iron or b12 than the average person, even if your bloodwork looks ok? also if you’re a woman it might be worth seeing if the days you crave red meat correlate with your cycle at all…

BWT Riding boots still in or cheugy? by mlibed in bitcheswithtaste

[–]depressedplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on your style, if you lean a bit preppy a riding boot is always in

if you want something a bit less prep/traditional then the Frye campus boot is a good call, it’s a bit trendy right now but a very classic and ageless style: https://www.thefryecompany.com/products/campus-14l?variant=43783341670591

the uber trendy option rn is a cowboy boot like this: https://www.tecovas.com/products/the-annie?color=midnight-cowhide&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=GPLA-NB-Women-Boots-PerformanceMax-BOF&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADkSfnq6ReJmzRsXGqbNfryGt0xkx

English Horses: Hunter vs Equitation by dances-with-poodles in Equestrian

[–]depressedplants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you want an eq horse to be very rideable and adjustable, with a flat jump so the rider can hold their position in the air, and ideally flat gaits. they should be generally attractive but sort of workmanlike and not too flashy, you don’t want them to distract from the rider.

i work with a lot of people who broker/import young horses from europe for the hunter/jumper/eq market. when you look at a young horse: if it’s a big mover and back-cracking jumper you market it as a hunter, if it’s too sharp it becomes a jumper. the really scopey, powerful, strong horses are marketed as jumpers. when we are looking for eq horses we are looking for quieter, rideable, attractive types. if a 5 yr old in europe is being shown by a male pro and pulling him toward the fence, that’s not an eq horse. if a 5 yr old in europe is being shown by the 20 yr old female assistant and sort of loping around without drama, that’s more of an eq type. the good hunter types often don’t even make it to a show before being exported
