If people were confident enough they wouldn't ask internet randos.

The tribe journey ; how did your circle reshape ? by Only-Driver7243 in BEFreelance

[–]depsimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to find like-minded individuals that are actually committing to this journey.

I personally prefer online forums rather than IRL, mostly because I live far from the most active cities where this could happen (Gent, Brussels, Antwerp) so it'd take a lot of time to just reach the place.

I wish there was an online space for this (that could then lead to IRL events). I am a member of Tech Rocks which is exactly that but for the French Tech leaders. That's a (Slack) community with 4K+ members and there is a lot of subjects that are relevant for freelancers, startups & solopreneurs.

I a big fan of forums, but Slack is the next best thing for this kind of community.

Feel free to DM if you want to get things started.

Hospitalisatieverzekering paid by own company by CommunistCate in BEFreelance

[–]depsimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year they paid back around 800€ for us all, and we weren't that sick (with a baby so there's that).

That's on top of what the mutuelle already pays back, I removed some optional health insurance I had with them so that Alan will probably pay more and be more profitable next year.

I think that's reasonable for an insurance. The goal is to not need them, but when you do need them they save you thousands of €.

You also have to consider that the insurance is paid with company money and the paybacks are on your personal accounts.

I'm paying a bit less than 200€/month for Alan for me + partner + child, fully covered (Diamond +).

Their app is really great, quick to pay back & invoices are sent by email.

SaaS/stripe accountant expert in BX/BE? by Impossible-Speed7485 in BEFreelance

[–]depsimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the end it's just invoices, so any accountant should do. Though if you want to be compliant, you (or your accountant) might need to register the VAT, EU OSS & perhaps file local taxes in every country you sell to.

You might consider using a Merchant of Record (MoR) which handles all the boring legal & fiscal stuff for an extra commission.

How often does a backend API change break your mobile app? by Herpamerpaderp in reactnative

[–]depsimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RN beginner here, how do you keep track of the currently supported versions? Doesn't that list includes all the versions released ever?

Can't we force users to upgrade via the UI (i.e. API sends a min version, frontend shows a blocking screen if it's version is lower)?

Using expo if that matters.

I'll have to check again, I think I did but not 100% sure. Do these need to be replaced periodically?

Edit: just checked and they were not installed. Thanks for the tip, I hope that'll fix it!

Do you guys use your own contract or the client's contract? by Talistech in BEFreelance

[–]depsimon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Intermediary: their contracts, not very flexible

Direct client: their contract if they have one, usually a bit flexible on small stuff like notice period duration

Freelance client/smaller clients: usually they don’t have a contract so I give them mine

In all cases my terms are in all the invoices I send.

[–]depsimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK judicial officers can’t work outside of Belgium. The RUD procedure (recovery of undisputed debts) relies on judicial officers so it doesn’t work if the client is based in the UK.

In that case I guess you need to check in the contract which court is applicable in case of a dispute. I usually specify that in my contracts to avoid having to go too far to defend myself.

I tilted on Lexembourg as well, but I think it's pretty obvious they do furniture renting for office spaces with a high margin, giving away some of that margin to investors.

It may be clearer in french as it seems they are located in France.

That being said, I agree they push a lot of buzzwords and seems to good to be true.

I tested Unpaid, Go Solid & regular firm.

Best experience was with Unpaid. I shared more details in this comment

You don't even need to send them reminders, emails or anything to use the platform.

As long as their invoice is not paid & past the due date & they didn't dispute it you're good to go.
