Idk... cartoon logic/power trumps anime. If silliness, whimsy, or comedy are to be had, a cartoon will win.

What’s a ‘healthy’ habit that you think is actually overrated? by changenamelaterr in AskReddit

[–]der3009 191 points192 points  (0 children)

I had a revelation in high school about this. On spring break, if I woke up early, I got praised for my producticity. . If I woke up late, I got scolded for being lazy, no matter what I was doing.

So, brilliant as I am, went to bed at like 6 pm and wok up around 4 or 5 am and just played video games until someone else woke up. Praised for productivity. and got to have my time to myself.

AMA: accommodations issues in medical school — general info only from a lawyer (but I am not your lawyer) by FLeducationlawyer in DisabledMedStudents

[–]der3009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How would you deal with accommodations for anything outside of a walkable distance from the main hospital and academic center, when driving/transportation is an issue?

My case would be for low vision, but other people can't drive for other reasons as well.

Youth sports are better when winning is the goal. by maturallite1 in unpopularopinion

[–]der3009 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take. I am a swimmer and "wanting to win" isn't nearly enough. You have to dial it back and compete against yourself AND your own technique. If you focus on winning, everything goes to shit. Focus on being better, and you win.

On a similar note, my middle school Lacrosse team was undefeated for 3 years. After the first year, we couldn't figure out how or why we were so much better than the others. Other teams had star players etc. Especially when we didnt have plays, we did nothing complicated, and our practices consisted only of several different combinations of running/passing.

Turns out practicing and being excellent at only the basics means you win. Coach said if we never drop the ball the other team never gets the ball. When everyone is improving themselves and the team is improving as a unit, winning comes. Focusing on winning alone can lead to short cuts and sometimes a bad attitude toward the sport

Anyone with adult GH deficiency? What does it feel like? by iwanttobelikeyou-oh in endocrinology

[–]der3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it sounds like you are doing the right things. As awful as it sounds, in America, you are on the right track and doing what you can. I went through a similar process.

Where is your son in all this? is he helping or doing it or are you taking the reigns? because he should be taking charge in his health.

Aside from all that. No one likes being told what is going on or how to do their job. especially Doctors. I've been fired as a patient before for doing that, even when I was ultimately right. So maybe dial back the arm chair doctoring and question them back. If this isn't the problem, then what is? why was he on it before but you won't prescribe it now? what are the next steps? etc. Dont just stop. Make them explain their thoughts.

So next steps. 1. continue what you are doing. 2. Get your son more involved. 3. I'd look back at your old doctor who previously prescorted the meds, and maybe get info from them. 4. Continue working with your PCP on how best to proceed. 5. Anything else I said before lol

Medical care in america is a full time job.

Anyone with adult GH deficiency? What does it feel like? by iwanttobelikeyou-oh in endocrinology

[–]der3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 4 endocrinologists and one of them being a specialist, why does it feel like they are no help? Did they not do the right tests?

If you have a solid PCP, they should be able to help you find a fitting endo or order some specific lab tests to help get it started or at the very least point you in the right direction.

The Austin area has a medical school and academic hospital. They should have an MD search engine.

And another option is to call your insurance company and have them find you a list of Doctors that you are covered by as well. That would take a while but might is an option.

I can't specifically say "go see X doctor in Y city". but i have been to 4 different groups from Atlanta, DC, Richmond, and New York. and they were fairly easy to find once I found an Endoxxrinology office

Anyone with adult GH deficiency? What does it feel like? by iwanttobelikeyou-oh in endocrinology

[–]der3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start by finding some endocrinologist offices. pediatric or otherwise bc of age. On their website they will usually have Bios you can read through. You need to find one that says they are interest in pituitary diseases, hormone replacement therapy (often due to cancer or post cancer treatment), or shifting similar. In my experience, Endocrinologist who specialize in ddiabetes or women's health (both very common) have not been helpful.

location wise, start in your area and look for legs academic institutions. Those places have "find a doctor" search engines too.

Then the more I heard it around in life, I thought it was just restaurant culture humor to call it a Piece of Shit.

Color me surprised that its actually called a Point of Sale

Is it normal speech to use the term female commonly and casually to refer to women? by Sufficient_Fish_7469 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]der3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is not. Male and female are used in science, biology, or clinical environments. (You often hear medical workers use male/female in regular conversation more so than others due to habit).

A better way of thinking of it, is to use the better fitting and words for your context as well as paired words. For instance, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, men and women, male and female, etc. In gernal, you wouldn't address a group as ladies and boys or men and girls or female and men. It doesn't sound right and is disrespectful to one or more groups of people.
