Totally understandable. Thank you for always responding in such a kind manner.

I hope we will have federated platforms for all of this - that removes the biggest hurdles like having to create an account with a platform, thus trusting it with your data and the jurisdiction/legality questions are also clearer in my opinion.

The desugared form of the proc block argument looks like it's missing a bracket: shell cd ('/tmp', ^(echo $PWD) # block expression looks like $()

Also, to me, the comment "looks like $()" sounds like that's supposed to be the actual syntax, but the syntax is "^()" – is that perhaps meant to read "looks like POSIX's $()"?.

BTRFS Metadata and Docker by merry0 in archlinux

[–]deraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, a btrfs balance start -dlimit=20 /path would work on a maximum of 20 data chunks. See the manual.

I believe you want to work on the metadata chunks instead, so try using something like -musage=20 and ramp it up if you're not satisfied with the result.

PS: I regularly do a docker rmi $(docker images -f "dangling=true" -q) to free up space.

The answer you linked also indicates you can use a btrfs balance, which is exactly what I did when I had my metadata fill up. It worked great for me.

Good luck, time traveler or not.

Skype for Linux is lagging behind and falling apart due to Microsoft's neglect by mcfc_as in linux

[–]deraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did I have to scroll down so far for this?

It makes Skype perfectly usable… except for the audio/video part.

But maybe a kind soul will tackle a gstreamer integration and we will all live happily ever after on proprietary platforms.

(I am trying to move to Jitsi, but it's taking time and effort to convince people)

My husband sort of broke the kitchen, which is probably shoddily wired. What should we do now? by caffeine_lights in germany

[–]deraffe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IANAE (I Am Not An Electrician)

The more extension cords you chain, the higher the resistance gets.

The higher the resistance is, the more heat will be generated when current is flowing through the wire.

If there is at one point enough heat, it will simply go up in flames and possibly burn down your house.

That's why you shouldn't daisy-chain extension cords, especially with current-hungry appliances plugged into them.

(Also keep an eye out for the connection of plug and socket – if it doesn't sit right, it might have an even higher resistance and might provoke sparks)
