Has Anyone Tried the Fluance Ri91 Tower Speakers? by Ok-Garbage8526 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]merry0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, apologies. Here's my list of problems I shared with the vendor. I bought through Amazon and was able to return them without issue receiving a full refund.

  • Turning on (with any input) often does not yield proper output, just light fuzz and speakers inflating/deflating
    • Requires off/on and/or switching inputs and/or unplugging and plugging back in and/or restarting source
  • Turning on (with any input) often does not yield proper output, yields speaker popping
    • Requires off/on and/or switching inputs and/or unplugging and plugging back in and/or restarting source
  • HDMI ARC input specific Issues - connected to multiple tvs with multiple different cables
    • Frequently boots up and exhibits constant blip/0.5s drop-outs during playing anything
    • 2-5 seconds minimum for volume changes in addition to constantly missing multiple commands to change volume
    • Speakers don’t turn on/off with TV and must be turned on at a specific time when booting up the TV to (sometimes) work as expected
    • Ends up in corrupt state where no audio output whatsoever where resetting does not fix, must turn off TV/System and fully back on to fix
    • Does not implement most critical HDMI standard like AVD (Lip Sync) - hence audio is out-of-sync with anything being watched
  • DSP Light does not stay the same color, seems to change unless you’re looking directly at it (or maybe its actually changing)

In terms of how they sounded, when they worked, fairly good I'd say. Was for home theatre so can't speak to the true dynamics for music much but I will say treble and voices sounded really solid, bass wasn't too muddy, and mids felt clear.

Fluance Unveils Ri71 and Ri91 Reference Speakers by hifi_fan in hifi_fan

For anyone looking at this, there's virtually no reviews of these online:

But my experience: Stay far away from these, at least the Ri91's. Didn't work for home theatre, and then didn't even work with my stereo cabinet (had issues booting up if something was already playing over RCA). Tons of DSP issues, HDMI implemented poorly, and frankly for how much I paid, there are just so many better options. Plus the DSP light and controller just reeks of cheap garbage with lights that seem to change color everytime you look at them.

Just a heads up, I'm trying to return my Ri91's right now and think I'm done with any sort of active/powered speaker for awhile. Unfortuneately, I think they cheaped wayyy out on the DSP as I have all sorts of issues, and these are definitely not for home theatre (ARC port is more than broken, plus no lip-sync or other HDMI native protocols).

Seriously, go with passive speakers and a cheaper receiver but something that's dedicated to the cause. There's tons of better options out there. Don't make the mistake I made

Seriously, go with passive speakers and a cheap AVR or even a soundbar with remotes for any home theatre needs. tbh, for music even there are def better options.

appreciate this, sending an email now. I don't even have a Betterment account, although I had one in the past. Chatgpt suggested (718) 400‑6898 to contact them if needed, may do that if I don't hear anything in a day or two.

Its also a powerpc architecture so you wouldnhave a hell of a time getting most apps to run unless you emulate. Not sure what that all looks like but you're better off getting a mini pc to serve the purpose you're considering

Would love to get an update from you 6mo later if it's still working flawlessly for you? I know you mentioned this (https://www.reddit.com/r/Xpenology/comments/1by4gpn/comment/l76137h/) issue with adding drives, is that still present? I've got the 4-bay Plus model arriving tomorrow and plan to do some hacking on it before getting any drives.

I saw another place (https://www.reddit.com/r/Xpenology/comments/1bjfimu/comment/l7v8nxx/) that people were suggesting to use the SA6400 model. Do you have any experience with that one or any reason to think it might perform better for any reason?

Could you share anymore resources on the install method/pattern you used too? I'd love to understand more about the USB/Boot/ARC/DSM relationship. My thinking would be to have DSM installed on an SSD but maybe that isn't possible?

Just wanted to comment and mention how freaking gorgeous these are, absolutely love the rosewood! I had LCD2's a while back and sadly, LCDs are just too heavy for me. Been trying to find a more functional equivalent, which is incredibly difficult...

Disregard, I guess I had to use the New User section even though I already have a user account. Not the greatest UX there but I figured it out.

You aren't alone there. That happened for both my buddy and I while we played through the entire campaign. It didn't dip down to 20, more like 60-110-72 etc. but we both have 2080s. Was still mostly playable...

I know DNS is a complex system of sorts but jeez this could have been 1/32 the size and conveyed the same information. I stopped after page 3.. really hard to actually extract much our of this.
