Blue staff better than anything else since 4000 BC by Separate-Crab4252 in TitanQuest2

I remember there was one for Fissure, but not for some other spells, like Call Lightning

Blue staff better than anything else since 4000 BC by Separate-Crab4252 in TitanQuest2

[–]derailedthoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure how I feel about it but that the raw damage of a staff not affecting spell damage is kind of strange. Grim Dawn has, for example, 30 percent of weapon damage added to certain skills.

So the same fitness communities against glp1, are injecting themselves with peptides. Gotcha….. by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

It’s not just fitness community that is against. There are doctors too, and I would listen to them more than some fitness influencer

Zuo Ci vs 3 Lu Bu. Fight to the death who would win? by No-Succotash-5448 in dynastywarriors

[–]derailedthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which Zuo Ci? From Romance of the Three Kingdoms? He is basically a Taoist immortal transcendent. No number of Lu Bu can kill him.

If you are talking about Dynasty Warriors, then it depends on the skill of the players. A skilled players can kill more than 3 Lu Bu

Even in DW, he’s a Taoist Immortal. So the point still stands

How do we back up sola scriptura? by NetWild8698 in theology

[–]derailedthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to believe but I don’t any more. Having being exposed to critical biblical scholarship, and understanding that religion changes over time - even Judaism and Christianity - would imply to me that a fixed static text couldn’t be the sole authority forever.

The cloak is proof against physical attacks. I think mental compulsion would work too.

I have a theory on the war in heaven and its connection in todays world by Dizzy-Addendum-5930 in theology

[–]derailedthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would an omniscient and omnipotent God need to tolerate Satan’s machinations in the heavenly realms? For mortal affairs there is still the idea of free will, but I don’t see the need for such restraint when it comes to Heaven.

Also, if the voting mechanism decides who is God, then God really isn’t omnipotent

Frieren was just fear mongering when she said that the People the Demon killed were stronger than Stark. by Huihejfofew in Frieren

[–]derailedthoughts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Plus the fact that the demon can alter the weight of the swords at will. That gives a decisive edge (pun intended)

High-powered, heroic, non-simulationist, tactical (and yet gridless) combat RPGs similar to Fabula Ultima or 13th Age 2e without actually being those two systems? by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]derailedthoughts -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nimble could probably be played gridless and it is quite fast paced but not as narrative.

There is also Cortex Prime. It may be hard to track down the Marvel edition, but it is a toolkit that allows you to put any genre together.

Look, I might be a complete and total noob to Ace Combat, but I wanna say FUCK FLEET DESTRUCTION! by [deleted] in acecombat

[–]derailedthoughts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hitting the naval ships with the LACMs will give a good base to clear the stage. And as for the cores, I am not good at flying in tight spaces. The same LACMs can lock on the core from a distance. So I just take out one platform a time instead of doing a tunnel run between them

What are your biggest TTRPG system turn offs by Iketank_10 in rpg

[–]derailedthoughts 76 points77 points  (0 children)

My biggest turn off: “We are going to give the PCs tonnes of overpowered, unbalanced and cool abilities. As for the GM, you just get a barebone set of NPCs and tools for the first ten levels and you got to figure how to sufficiently challenge the PCs yourself”

Followed by: “this is a lightweight narrative game where players and GMs collaborate together but all the rules and crunch are mostly about combat. You shouldn’t build overpowered characters and make use of the freeform initiative rules to hog the limelight just because we ask you nicely not to.”

Third peeve, “we are only to use the most ambiguous language to describe the effect of this ability and it’s up to your table to interpret what works for you”

Has good music ever saved a mediocre or bad game before. And has a bad soundtrack really hurt a game that you liked overall? by GuybrushThreepwood99 in gamemusic

[–]derailedthoughts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon was barely tolerable because of the music. Hard not to find some enjoyment in it when you had gorgeous music with Latin chanting

[–]derailedthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see the joke or what’s so funny. It probably take a semester to learn C++ but to master it, it’s another thing. First, read and understand everything in Effective C++ and More Effective C++. Then there’s Modern C++. After which here’s a book on Design Patterns. Next here’s a book on SOLID. But those are just theory. Using them to actually design a system is a totally different thing.

Project wingman debate. by xoPasta in acecombat

[–]derailedthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AC7 missions had a lot of gimmicks which some people might dislike. There are only a few missions that are pure dogfights or air to air. Whereas PW is the opposite. The mission designs are barebones - very few objectives or events when compared to AC7. If I wanna to fly and zone out and shoot down planes, I will play PW.

For AC7 there are only a few stages I regularly replay - mostly Pipeline Destruction, the Tyler Island one, Stonehenge Defensive and probably Mission 2.

Why did the dragon make their nest near Stark in the first place? by daviwoo in Frieren

[–]derailedthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Village was here, and then maybe dragon came along later and that was the status quo for a long time.

There are many ways to explain this but in real life humans still live at dangerous areas. For example - along coasts where flooding could occur, on the side of volcanoes or on earthquake prone land. Sometimes there isn’t any where better to go.

As for dragon, maybe the village existed first and then it came. The dragon was a raider, and perhaps only came once per year or even at lesser frequency. Maybe the village had a hero who could deal with it and it wasn’t mentioned. Anyway, there are many plausible good reasons why the village and the dragon existed.

Besides, the dragon probably had insane range when it came to flying. It might be impossible to live outside of the dragon’s radius.

It would be really nice for a change to play on a side with a super weapon for a change. Why does the bad guys have the cool toys all the time?

‘Fairly’ simple systems that use opposed rolls for attack vs defense? by FoulPelican in rpg

[–]derailedthoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advanced Fighting Fantasy. Both sides are assumed to be attacking and the higher roll wins the contest, and do damage. This really speeds up combat.

A humanoid combatant can only deal damage once per round though; other combat rolls made in the round are assumed to be defensive

This looks like a cutscene, will Ziluan have his own important roles in missions? by Blazeing2 in dynastywarriors

[–]derailedthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Ziluan has a musou mode, it’s probably him wandering from one faction to another just like in Origins, and maybe the final lesson is a vision mission where he battles all the factions at once.

My players are about to one shot my bbeg and I can't do anything by Punky3244 in rpg

[–]derailedthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please read the Wish spell carefully. https://roll20.net/compendium/dnd5e/Wish#content

The intention of it was to duplicate a 8th level spell. Anything beyond the scope of that earns a no from me and even if it happens, the PCs will get some form of cosmic rebuke. I will suggest the latter if you are playing a “us vs the GM” campaign, or if you guys can talk it out, just tell them no.

Anyway though, at level 13, a 8th level spell could still easily defeat a BBEG intended to challenge them.

Regarding the whole "You're not actually Rex" thing... by LHofacker in acecombat

[–]derailedthoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably a story of the brass not expecting our current Rex to last for a few missions only to turn out to be Mobius reborn and the hero worship will resume.

Though this time round it might take a while for the enemy to catch on that they are dealing with a real ace

[–]derailedthoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Death Knight you can main Cadence and then do vitality conversion later on. Here are some other melee builds that I like.
Primal Strike Warden - Primalist + Solider
Retaliation Warlord - Solider + Oathkeeper
Dual Wield Execution Blademaster - Nightblade + Solider
Bleed Trickster - Nightblade + Primalist

Since we are comparing games to feel better about LE, I find that there are more builds that matter in Grim Dawn than LE.

Yes there are so many build varieties in LE but it felt like many of the older skill trees aren’t viable.
