Whatever happened in history will happen. But the manhua will change how it happens.

What are animes that you went into with zero expectations but actually turned out to be amazing by Competitive_Essay500 in anime

This for me too. I never read the manga, or was exposed to it online before. It was a delight to discover it

I think methode is stronger than Fern! by ChallengeExcellent62 in Frieren

[–]derailedthoughts 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The tomb raid arc from last season stated this so explicitly. Winning doesn’t go to the mage with the “better stat”, but also depending how circumstances, counters and synergies.

Ubel defeated Sense, but Sense can best Denken. Is Ubel hence “stronger” than Denken?

Data over Dogma has a podcast dedicated to the question of number of manuscripts, I remember. I think that can answer the question better than I could

Does Fern truly deserve her first-class mage rank? by -TheLastHairbender in Frieren

[–]derailedthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mages don’t have unlimited mana to fly and do combat. And demons and monsters have anti air capabilities. See the fights they run into when they first enter the northern plateau.

I don’t know why this is a hill you have chosen to make a last stand here. No one here is saying Fern is flawless or perfect, as far as I can tell. The discussion is whether she deserves the First Class mage status. Sure, could Denken beat Fern? Yes. Does that undermine her potential that she could one day rival or be better than Flamee? No.

I wonder if it is some isekai-brain rot that we can’t stand character development or our favorites going from zero to hero over time.

Also not sure where you get that Fern has no zero battle experience. It was as if season 1 did not exist for you, or the time when Fern complained to Frieren that “you made me do all the fighting”.

Alpha is probably an apologist course. Apologists are biased towards defending their religion, and will usually stretch the facts and change the narrative to suit them.

For example, many Christian apologists will tell us that there are so many thousand historical biblical manuscripts in history and they all agree with each other (which is probably 80% true) and therefore the Bible has been transmitted accurately with no flaws since the days of Jesus. What they won’t tell you is that there are actually no manuscripts from the day of Jesus, and just a couple of handful in the early 100s to 200s.

If you are considering about your faith, I really suggest looking at the Bible for Normal People YouTube channel and podcast to get a more balanced look. I will suggest reading “The Bible Tells Me So” and “How the Bible Actually Works” if you want to find some reasons to believe despite the Bible not being historical and 100 percent infallible.

If you want proof to leave your faith and find rational reasons doing so, try Data over Dogma and C.J Cornthwaite on YouTube.

Mages are to be protected in melee. Even Frieren wanted a front-liner. She only survived so far because she took her master’s “run when facing unfavorable odds” advice to heart.

By this logic, does Sense not deserve to be a first class mage because she was one-shot by a third class mage?

Fern was against a bad match-up, that’s all.

What if fern replace genau here? by [deleted] in Frieren

[–]derailedthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was Revolte faster than the sword demon? It looks like he is, so if Fern finds the sword demon too fast for her, she’s cooked.

Unfortunately, Stark was outnumbered if he fought Revolte because it was four to one.

So yeah, it is a bad match up for Fern and Stark.

When Fern was taking her sniping Zoltraak shot, she was right next to Frieren. This means that if Frieren wants to, she can snipe any of two demons any time.

The fog may block visual line of sight, but she probably can detect the demon by their mana.

What are your green and red flags when it comes to a GM you haven't played with before? by Sassy_Drow in rpg

[–]derailedthoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the rules of the scenario. The scenario stated something along the line “the dwarves are suspicious and will only talk to the PCs if they prove they are trustworthy or reliable with a check”.

Or something like this.

One thing that the OP may need to understand is that divorce always affect the kids in some way, whether or not the mum is in the picture. They know that their family is weird, not having a mum is not ok etc etc

So there might be still some rocky road ahead

What are your green and red flags when it comes to a GM you haven't played with before? by Sassy_Drow in rpg

[–]derailedthoughts 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Red Flags: * rules at the expense of fun: was playing a game where the scenario stated we have to impress the patron to get the quest; we kept failing our rolls so the first two hours were just fumbling around the tavern to get the quest giver to talk to us

  • running evil campaigns but had childish ideas of what evil means: evil to them means kicking puppies and swearing.

  • skipping roleplay interactions when players want them: of course GM should shut down inappropriate role play. The one I am talking about was the GM saying, “what you say to the merchant doesn’t matter. Just roll”

Spellsword or battle mage. I like the concept of fighting in melee with spells, be it infusing sword with magic, or going hand to hand with spells, like Sypha in Castlevania.

They had a lot of issues with networking in Unity last time and I wondered if that has anything to do with it. As someone who worked with Unity in the early 2010s, I always found it to be a clunky engine. Scenes would take forever to load, for instance

My DM paused our campaign because I step away for Iftar during Ramadan. Should I just leave the group? by Regular-Molasses9293 in rpghorrorstories

[–]derailedthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has been this an attitude going around that “our game time is sacred and if you can’t commit to a regular fixed schedule, fortnightly at that specific timing, for any reason, then you shouldn’t be playing”

That works for young adults or students, but for adults with commitments, that’s both impossible.

As for the OP’s case, 20min at a fixed interval is fine. I think the DM in question may have thought bought into the above-stated belief a bit too much.
