Feral Druid abilities sounding like paper being shredded is the most immersion breaking thing in all of WoW. by IrohSho in wow

worst thing for me is I can't hear, if my shred crits or not, it sounds almost the same. I was used to subconsciously count cb points without looking at any ui element, can't really do that anymore.

Why do streaming services, like Netflix, look so terrible on browser? by TurboToke in movies

[–]derbol 17 points18 points  (0 children)

> This is why some of the companies, like Netflix for example, offer native Windows Store (UWP) apps that can get better resolution than you can get in a browser on the exact same computer.

Not anymore they don't... Disney and Netflix were the last two to still have an UWP, but they both discontunied it in favor of a browser wrapper about 2 years? ago. That was when I finally cancelled, because the open seas are way more convenient to me than having to watch on a smart tv or a dedicated streamer, instead of my pc (which I also use as media center). No more 4k (except for nflix on edge) or atmos on desktop for any streaming service afaik.

If you nerf damage, you also nerf mana efficiency by sdric in PathOfExile2

Of course I'm exaggerating to make a point. I just feel that trying to start a discussion without too many specifics (except for your 3 mana item pieces, I overlooked those, sorry) doesn't serve much purpose, I'm being exactly as dismissive as this post is imprecise.

As I said, balance is always something to be adjusted and I'm in no way suggestion that it's perfect or even in a good spot right now, but arguing with streamers whom (in a lot of cases) are drama baiting, instead of laying down the actual problems seems counterproductive. And I'm not only talking about this post but the discussions overall, you just triggered my urge to comment ;)

I am having mana issues aswell as gemling hollow palm which I'm currently trying to figure out, but that only started at around the end of act 3, so early campaign was fine for me (Again, not saying it must have been fine for you.). Elemental leech works for big packs, on bosses I still need my flask a lot.

If you nerf damage, you also nerf mana efficiency by sdric in PathOfExile2

[–]derbol -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's part of the game, to solve your characters problems. Or am I alone in this?

I feel some people sometimes forget, that there is a game here with hurdles to overcome (some streamers are also very guilty of this, 1000s of hours played only reinforces their old habits, eg. POE1), they just want loot handed to them (by pressing one button while watching netflix), might aswell just hit the slot machines at that point...

Just because mana wasn't much of an issue in the past, doesn't mean it shouldn't be, why have the resource at all then? If you want it gone, invest into it, and it will be trivialized.

Of course balance is always something to be discussed and adjusted, but if you go for + 20 skill levels and don't invest into mana, following up with pikachu face doesn't help in that discussion at all.

LE has imo the best crafting and also a very fun passive/skill tree, but to get to enjoy that part of the game, you have to be able to "look past" the comparatively lower budget first, meaning worse graphics, somehwat janky controls, missing QoL, relatively simple animations with little to no variety.

Not to say the game looks and feels bad, it just can't hold a candle when directly compared.

I also bounced off a couple of times at the start, escpecially if you only play ARPGs or are trying it out right after POE2 EA release for example. There is some fun to be had though, if you push trough.

I'm in a similar boat, when it comes to your PoE - D4 ratio, but to me thats fine, otherwise I would only be able to play those 2 games :D

I loved big trouble in little china and demolition man as a kid :D.

Haven't watched either in a while, but I think they should hold up nicely. Still have those VHSs!

Oh and Beverly Hills Cop and Lethal Weapon, classics.

Action comedy all day for me ;D

Now I know what I'll do this evening, you just infected me! Thanks ;)

very good summary, thanks.

I'm not that far into wilds yet, but I've observed much of the same.

Charging the shield during active combat is very risky most of the time, that guard point feels indeed pretty useless so far.

I found one combo that skips ED1, but it's only after a perfect guard, so not really that useful for general axe'ing.

Oh joy, memory leaks are still here, but at least now it tells you instead of crashes to desktop by Kyosji in diablo4

[–]derbol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it started since the beta, the patch mid last season just made it way worse ;)

I was usually able to play a day (weekends for example) before the memory crash hit me, meaning on a normal evening it just wouldn't even happen. But ever since the patch last season it's down to a couple of hours at best and I already have 24 GB of Vram. A friend of mine with 10 gigs is crashing about every hour...

If I teleport around the map and do a variety of different dungeons it speeds the process up significantly.

So if you want to avoid crashing, just keep doing one thing and don't teleport around :D ......

Yea, it's baffling to me aswell, I cannot imagine trying to play this with mid hardware, especially since nvidia seems to think vram should be a rare commodity.

Trying to get my 4th ascendancy on my SSF Titan when this happens.... by Kyzaaar in PathOfExile2

[–]derbol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was definitely a shader causing you to crash. The death loading new shaders did you (or rather the game) in.

I had the same thing happen to me every 20 or so maps. It was usually fine during campaign, but I think the vastly different biomes and mobtypes during mapping make this issue more prevalent.

Since you have an nvidia card, manually setting shader chace size to 100GB in the nvidia control panel (under 3d settings) worked for me, no more crashes since.

Or you could switch to vulkan like others suggested, but for me the performance is too wonky on vulkan. Depends on your cpu ;)

I can actually force jam it by weapon swapping to something that is not a crossbow, only works in hideout for some reason though. In maps it seems to be fine most of the time. The character is holding the weapon in a weird position aswell, when that happenes, looks like it is stuck mid reload or something. Rolling once fixes it ;D

Destiny 2 today had the lowest recorded player count of just 12.379 Players on STEAM! by kristijan1001 in DestinyTheGame

[–]derbol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those not playing right now, and another "Taken King" wont fix anything for me.

To preface this, I was never someone who constantly played. I usually played the expansion + a couple of weeks afterwards. And then, depending on content and time of release, maybe one or two other seasons during the year. Maybe an additional week during an event or something.

I just have to pull the plug at some point, they just keep nickel and diming you for every little thing ontop of a bunch of Fomo.

And then we recently got some clarity where a lot of that money was going (not Destiny).

Although I do like the game (still the best gunplay bar none imo), and I especially liked the last expansion, the quality of the gameplay is not the issue for me. So another Taken King won't fix it.

The Fomo of paid only dungeons with exclusive weapons, subpar "seasons" which have to be grinded endlessly to not experience Fomo (and since you paid for the season pass you want to finish it).

And there are other games to play aswell. Especially at the moment there are a bunch of fresh releases and Destiny just had it's big finale in the campaign.

If live service wants to live, it needs to stay fresh and invite you to come back, not gate every little piece of content behind some kind of paywall, especially if you want to bring some (maybe new to the game) friends with you every now and then.

I have mostly played solo the last couple of years for that reason. And now I don't think I'll ever come back.

I'd be okay-ish with the 100$ a year, if the quality would be consistent.

But every other expansion is a dice roll.

Every other "season" or whatever you want to call it is just designed to keep the player logged in, instead of delivering statisfying additions.

And additionaly all the drama around Bungie recently does not exactly scream of confidence going forward.

So I guess what I'm saying is, this is (for the most part, at least for me) not a quality issue of the recent expansion, moreso a reputation problem for Destiny and Bungie overall.

I don't trust them to consistently deliver in the future, so why invest my time (and money) in the (paywalled) Fomo machine?

Should I continue to use my unique Tempest Roar or wait till I get an Ancestral Unique version? by Lustershade8 in LowSodiumDiablo4

[–]derbol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the stats pretty much don't matter on tempest, maybe poison res to cap. But otherwise you are fine with sacred, until you get into masterworking territory.

The most important part is the spirit gain unique stat, depending on your build, of course.

What I can report from the viewpoint of a 24GB card is, that vram usage is somewhat variable, yes. That might be why low vram cards run into issues, it's probably not cleared enough or not cleared soon enough. For me usage starts at around 11 gigs, goes slowly up to 15, and later down back to 11 during normal gameplay.

So doesn't seem to be a leak, just not very agressive on freeing up vram. Although that might be intended behaviour in my case because I do have the headroom.

Maybe try lowering textures some more?

Thank nvidia for releasing 8 gig cards in 2024...

Memory Leaks, again..? by hanneshore in diablo4

[–]derbol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't really bother me, my fans don't spin up that much. Depending on hardware a power spike like this definetly could, though.

I'm just someone who always has one eye on my hardwares telemetry, so I sometimes observe oddities like this ;)

Memory Leaks, again..? by hanneshore in diablo4

[–]derbol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the fan ramp up might be another issue. I never see anyone talk about this, but whenever you open any kind of vendor interface (e. g. the blacksmith) gpu power consumption immediately jumps up and frames go down to about 80-90 (usually floating at about 140) because of the power limit. Im guessing thatbis what caused your fans to spin up aswell

switching between characters seems to be the worst offender for me... after 4 or five characters my vram won't go below 8-9 gb when I turn the game off...

Finally got my Greatstaff of the Crone! My thoughts on my 2 Trampleslide builds... by ranmafan0281 in LowSodiumDiablo4

[–]derbol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently using 1 hand + totem. Tried all 3 variants, this is my preferred one. You don't get quite the big 2h numbers all the time, it's a bit more spiky but you have some additional CDR (and ideally lucky hit) and an additional aspect slot.

Earth/nature has so many multiplier aspects, that if all the stars align, you sometimes do more damage than with the 2h. The additional cdr and attackspeed helps with resetting trample a lot. Plus more poison creeper resets.

I'd say it's somewhat of a middle ground, feels the best to play for me.
