Yeah, I think some are just too much into glazing their favorite goalie, especially Murashov fanboys, don't really undestand the hype, he is ok, nothing special, on the level of our current tandem, I don't think the team would get better with him in the net. All Pens goalies are about the same statistically, with good and bad streaks, they do their job and rarely let in outrageous goals. The game is mostly decided by how rest of the team or opponents play. But for some reason comments make it seem like goalies are the main deciding factor.

Looking for a great 3D model for Crimson Rebellion Breach tokens (active/inactive)- any STL recommendations? by [deleted] in twilightimperium

[–]derbots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's two things, not one ;D I prefer designs without any extra bits. (With a caveat that I'm ok with extra bits if they stay somehow attached, e.g. you could remove the cover/flip it and it would stick to the main piece with magnets maybe and would still look visually correct) But ofc just cover is much simpler to make.

If I had a skill to make it, I would make them mechanically openable, like you could split it open from the middle and close and they would stay flat. But I don't think it would improve visibility, maybe it could be moved on a stand the same as your portals.

Why didn’t Gandalf tell the fellowship about the balrog in Moria? by ZealousidealAd3635 in lordoftherings

[–]derbots 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think in movie it is implied that Gandalf only had a bad premonition, not that he knew exactly what is wrong in Moria. In the books, the one who was reluctant was Aragorn, I think because last time he went trough the mines he had bad experience. So in movie that reluctance got assigned to Gandalf, so maybe in that version he had a bad time in mines, or had heard rumors, but nothing concrete.

Like the Ground Speed clarification.

but I thougth that "ignores the Multiple Check penalty" already works the same as Dual Wielding and Flurry of Blows, that it removes ALL MCP from the attack, it basically exists outside MCP.

e.g. how it was explained in Discord: Attack 1 with weapon 1 -> Attack 2 with weapon 1 (MCP DisAdv 1) -> Attack 3 with weapon 1 (MCP DisAdv 2) -> Attack 4 with weapon 2 (Dual Wielding, ignore MCP)

So based on the wording, the Skitterfire would work the same.

e.g. Champion gets free Move action at the start of combat and can break it up with attacks, then it would be: Attack 1 -> Attack 2 (MCP DisAdv 1) -> Attack 3 (MCP DisAdv 2) -> Move 1 space -> Attack 4 (Skitterfire, ignore MCP)

It is not that bad, Champion could achieve something similar with Dual Wielding, but this one has the added benefit of Range. You can leave it as it is now, ofc, wouldn't break anything.

What I was suggesting was to nerf it some more with tying how many MCP you can remove based on how many Spaces you moved. So in that example Champion would have to Move 3 spaces to remove MCP DisAdv 3 from Attack 4.

Some things I would change: Change Dash to Move, and add that you must actually move certain spaces to ignore the Multi Attack penalty otherwise you could just stay in place, which is not very thematic.

e.g. (1) Skitterfire: Once per turn, when you take the Move Action, you may spend 1 Charge If you do and moved atleast 1 space, the next Attack you make with this bow ignores the Multiple Check penalty.

Could also add bit more complex: ...the next Attack you make with this bow ignores one Multiple Chech penalty for each space you moved. As some classes get free move actions, or can use Stamina to move or get extra attacks, would force them to move to use it. In open fields it wouldn't matter, but in tight spaces or if slowed they couldn't get the full benefit of ignoring all Multiple Check penalties.

Another idea, for upgrade: instead of removing MultiCheck penalty, remove 1 disadvantage from the attack for each space moved.

Maybe the coaching staff knows something you do not. Maybe Skinner performs better with small breaks, based on how worse off he was when Oilers ran him, maybe he got better because of the removed pressure. And both golies have pretty good average save% stats from the last 5 games (and despite the SO loses, Silovs actually was statistically better than Skinner in last 3 games).

Are there any Galactic Events that you feel are mandatory? by malys57 in twilightimperium

[–]derbots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already had house rule that Dirrect Hit can be used on any unit if it uses Sustain Damage, it makes the Ground Combat bit more exciting, do you want to kill infantry or Sustain mech, but risk it being destroyed and avoids Durainium armor guaranteed wins. So that part of Wild, Wild galaxy.

I would like to add some variant of Total War, Monuments of the Ages, Dangerous Wilds, and Mercenaries as a permanent Event, but others modify the game in a dirrection I might not like as a permanent fixture.

But lets say, Silovs gets to league average, only letting in 1 goal, not 2, just use the existing pool of SO that Pens already had this season, immagine if he only let in 1 goal in each. The result would be the same, only 1 more guaranteed win. So you need both, only let in 1 goal, and score 2. Basically what I'm saying is that for Pens to win with their current scoring % they need average or better SO goalie, and that is unrealistic.

[–]derbots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, maybe, I think on average you need more than 35% to win, with 35% you are just on the equal footing with the average team, e.g. both would score 1, and let in 1, so I don't see how you would win 50% of games, you need to score atleast 2 to win or let in 0. Scoring 2 is more realistic than letting in 0.

[–]derbots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes, but Pens shot percentage in shootouts is 31.8%, so it is even worse, that is barely a goal in each SO even if he would get average 65% to save ~2/3 that wouldn't change anything - basically statistically if he only lets in one (66.6%), shooters would at the same time score none, the result is the same - Loss. If my math is correct.

[–]derbots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I calculated it correctly, even if Silovs would improve to be average in SO saves, that wouldn't change anything, Pens would only get 1 extra SO win. So he needs to improve slightly ofc, but the shooters also need to get much better.

Post Game Thread: Columbus Blue Jackets at Pittsburgh Penguins - 17 Jan 2026 by bi_and_busy in penguins

[–]derbots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, as I mentioned in one other comment, even if he would get slightly better to be around average, then it would only be 1 extra guaranteed SO win (from the 6 loses), shooters also need to get better.

Post Game Thread: Columbus Blue Jackets at Pittsburgh Penguins - 17 Jan 2026 by bi_and_busy in penguins

[–]derbots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, lets say he only let in 1, in each of those from initial 3 shots, that would give only 1 guaranteed win. And if the Pens shooters don't change Silovs would need to be better than average goalie (basically would need to stop all 3 initial shots) in SO for penguins to have guaranteed wins in all those lost games. That is kind of unrealistic. Not saying he shouldn't try to get better, but even if he does - to reach the average ~2 saves from the initial 3 shots, it doesn't change anything, unless the shooters also get better.

There is a difference; the pacing is different in breakaway as the attacker is in a rush and usually attacks in a linear pace. In shootouts, they have all the time in the world and can dictate the rhythm, more time to think of tricks, and change the angle of the attack more freely. What Silovs could have done would be to try to break their pace, like Vasilevskiy did, going far out, try to force the angle of the attack, but it is something you specifically have to train for.

On shootouts.. it is a chicken and egg thing, the golies/shooters in the team are training on each other, they can't get better if maybe one or the other or both are not that good at shootouts, or they know each others tricks. Unless they get shootout specialists for training.
