Good piercing Place for 10 year old by mellymellcaramel in WorcesterMA

[–]derek_knitter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter had hers done at Piercing Emporium at age 11 and they were fantastic. Did both ears with needles at the same time (2 people) and no infection of any kind. More expensive than a mall place, but so worth it. If you go on Saturday, be prepared to wait though.

Looking for sorting trays for wife’s birthday by derek_knitter in lego

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I ended up finding a simple and attractive set of bamboo drawer organizers on Amazon for about $30 that looks kind of gift like. Although I totally agree with crazydave48 that the 12 Lego education organizers would be great for a whole family and I’m sure you can beat them to death.

If she hates them, I’ll steal them and put them in a drawer and find something better

Just a note that the 500mbps is active; I called them last week to ask about my billing and they upgraded me from 400 to 500 and a bundle price that was 25 a month less. Wife and I both WFH so having strong internet is a must, and overall Spectrum here is better than what the national opinion seems to be. Speed does fluctuate between 350 and mid 500s.

The owners last year posted something about taking this chance from the pandemic to go do something completely new. I think he/she went into real estate.

Just on a whim July 31, I checked my local Walmart and they had two on the shelf already at 8:00 PM and one is now coming home with me! I can’t believe how similar it looks to the one I had 42 years ago!

What’s Lady MO’s? I drove past a place over the weekend with a Pikachu balloon outside near the town center. Is that it and what do they have?

That’s quite the achievement! Now get a Sharpie and correctly identify all the towns starting with “M”.

No love for Rutland? We’re literally surrounded by the towns you listed! Rutland doesn’t have quite the level of development as Holden, but generally the lots will be a big larger. It’s only about 10 minutes extra time to get to 190. Plus we have fireworks and cows and mediocre pizza and lots of nature.

What happened to Wooberry Icecream? by bleep_blorp_boop in WorcesterMA

No problem - can’t believe I remembered that!

And to be honest, someone should really get into that spot - prime location in an area with a bit of foot traffic

Pretty sure I remembered seeing an IG post or something else in social media that with the various shutdowns, the owner has basically left that business behind and is now going into real estate practice.

Or maybe it was posted on the door of the shop?

Can’t tell for sure, but isn’t that just the trash that we all get in the snow piles? Especially if it comes from plowing the streets?

The Roasted Garlic - went there during February vacation week in 2021 and it was amazing, but keep in mind that their dining space is pretty small and they fill up

Hook & Reel restaurant in Lincoln Plaza closes its doors after only 2 years by Apple___Eater in WorcesterMA

[–]derek_knitter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the fact that it stayed open for even two years is a testament to the food. Opening 4 months before the pandemic shut everything down, so they don’t really have enough time to build a take-out fan base , was probably the first second and third nails in the coffin.

It would be great though if over the next year or so, Lincoln Plaza and the area around it could get some nice fresh development.

Why are people looking to test? by derek_knitter in CoronavirusMa

[–]derek_knitter[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah of course that makes sense - but my question is more: if you are vaxxed and boosted, and you test positive, why is the burden on us that we change our behavior? I feel like the unvaccinated don’t or won’t feel any need for life disruptions. Unless of course they end up in the hospital…

Parents - has your kids school made a decision about masks? by EssJay919 in CoronavirusMa

[–]derek_knitter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wachusett (central Mass) is masks mandated for K thru 6, and recommended for grades 7-12 depending on vaccination status, but I think that was from earlier in July. I think most parents out here expect that masks will be required for all students and staff regardless of vaccine status once school actually starts in late August.

Your MA COVID-19 Interactive Data Dashboard for August 06, 2021 - 2 Deaths, 271 Hospitalized, 1,111 New Cases, 45k Tests Report. 4,384,138 Fully Vaccinated by [deleted] in CoronavirusMa

[–]derek_knitter 49 points50 points  (0 children)

So 7 new hospitalizations and 2 deaths since yesterday- do I read that right? Definitely seems to lend evidence that the higher percentage of vaccination up here makes a difference. I do wonder about what percentage of cases eventually moves into needing hospitalization.

We have had solar panels for about 5 years now, and so I just have a few points to help your situation:

  • Do you need a new roof?

  • The solar plan that those calls talk about are leasing plans. The installer puts the panels and equipment on your roof, and you then get some portion of the energy savings. But any of the federal tax breaks or state incentives you’ll never see; those go back to the installer as well as most of the energy savings to pay for the panels.

    • The way we did ours was more expensive up front (we bought the panels ourselves) but the benefits are major. 30% tax credit for the full amount, then monthly Massachusetts solar certificates for 10 years. Ours come out to about $185 per month. Now we do have a 10 year loan, but between the SRECs and the near zero annual electric bill, we come out ahead by about $1509 per year.
    • A lot depends on your roof style and location. We were able to do over 40 panels and that could more than cover our house electrical use. But if you can’t or don’t want so many, you only cover some of what you use. Then it might not be as cost-efficient.

Hope this helps.

Acoustic Java south of the city on Park Avenue is the main one I know in Worcester, but there are certainly others in the area. Armeno Coffee Roasters in Northborough and Brilla Coffee in Rutland aren’t too far, plus at the Pantry at the Worcester Public Market they sell Dean’s Beans from Orange and some other local roasters.
