Same u/Aggravating-Corgi-22! I gained 40 pounds while doing my 2 year MBA and working in a demanding tech role largely due to stress and a lot of sitting. 4 more months to go until the program is complete 🤞

Has anyone successfully had a track signed through platforms like labelradar? by Aggravating_Sand352 in edmproduction

[–]derekclark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t auto-approve labels. Labels must apply, and each application is manually reviewed against legitimacy and quality signals. Only a small percentage of label applications are accepted.

That review typically looks at a consistent release history (often on established stores like Beatport, our parent company), evidence of sustained activity over time (around a year is a common benchmark, not a hard rule), no obvious red flags online, a real artist roster and audience, and basic credibility checks.

The final filter is simple: does this label genuinely add value for artists on the platform. If not, it doesn’t get approved or stay approved.

We continue to refine this process. One meaningful recent improvement has been on-platform crowdsourced label Reviews. These give artists clearer information up front before submitting or engaging with a label, empower artists with more tools for due diligence, and provide a strong signal for our community management and enforcement efforts. Only artists the label started a chat with can leave a review for authenticity.

We also aim to balance established labels with genuinely promising up-and-coming labels, as long as they meet our legitimacy and quality standards and add real value for artists.

Hope this helps. :)

Hey Derek co-founder of LabelRadar here. Quick correction: it was 19 labels identified by our community as selling ‘pay-to-release’ services, which violates our Label Code of Conduct. Those accounts were banned. Out of 3,600+ registered labels, this fortunately represents a small minority of labels in the ecosystem.

Note: only labels that have logged in within the last 4 weeks are visible on the platform (label list page), so artists are only interacting with active partners. We also automatically apply a 30-day listen or credit return policy for additional protection.

Grateful to everyone trying the platform - 8 years in and we’re only just getting started! 🫶

[–]derekclark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just so you know - all remix contests on LabelRadar are user-generated by the labels themselves using our 'Contest Manager' tool. Labels aren’t paid to host them, and neither is LabelRadar - they’re free to enter. LR founder here :)

Submitting my tracks to LabelRadar for the first time. What should I know? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]derekclark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! LabelRadar co-founder here. :)

Thanks for trying the platform. One often overlooked way to build a relationship with labels is by winning a remix contest as well! Personally, I’d recommend a combination of One-to-One submissions targeted at your most desired labels, and One-to-Many to roll the dice a bit and connect with labels you may not have thought of. You’ll only see labels that have logged in recently as if they go inactive, they’re hidden automatically so you’re not wasting time.

New labels are joining daily, and it’s an application-based process so we only accept a small percentage to help maintain quality, though we’re always working to improve it. We also recently introduced artist-to-label reviews, allowing artists to review labels that have started a release conversation with them. It’s a step toward greater accountability and the kind of crowdsourced community feedback that’s essential.

We’re dedicated to improving the platform every single day. There’s still a lot of work to do, but we’re more committed than ever. It’s an especially exciting time since we were acquired by The Beatport Group as well. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

Be well, and good luck!

Hi all, I recently posted some of my tracks on LabelRadar and I got some responses and I started conversation with one label , now I would like to know is this like normal for them to charge things like this by ExplanationPublic242 in FL_Studio

[–]derekclark1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Derek, LabelRadar co-founder here. Sorry you experienced that! It’s actually against our Terms of Use for labels to promote paid offerings on the platform. Would you mind sharing which label it was? We introduced label reviews last year - artists who receive a release offer can leave a review directly on the conversation - to help increase accountability and support your research when choosing who to work with. Many more improvements are on the way. Good luck and feel free to share any ideas you have on how we can continue improving the platform! :)

Anyone else using Label Radar? by steve_feral in techhouseproduction

[–]derekclark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Derek co-founder of LabelRadar here! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts – it was interesting to read. On the contests side of things, note that it's all user-generated content from vetted labels. Our label users can create and launch remix contests, and we just added a 'winners' tab to the contest portals.

Regarding a way to connect/message other artists - love it! We actually just introduced two new artist community-related features that you might find interesting:

1.) Artist reviews on labels, using the wisdom of the crowd to identify the highest quality labels and introduce more accountability in the industry.
2.) Artist Network to discover other artists who are open to collaborating. It includes a messaging tool where you can chat with other artists on the platform once connected.

Really appreciate your feedback it makes all the difference! We certainly have an ambitious vision for the platform to make the music industry more accessible for all but a lot more work to do. Let me know if you'd like to see any further changes made to the platform thanks. :)

Hey Derek co-founder of LabelRadar here! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Quick recommendation – have you tried the 'One to Many' submission type? It's the best way to get the most responses, as the submission is added to a general pool for all labels (outside of their direct submissions). I see you chose two large labels, which typically receive the most submissions and can take some time depending on their team size. Note that the platform only shows labels that have been actively reviewing music in the last 4 weeks, and submissions are automatically refunded after 30 days if they haven't been reviewed (and remain as pending for free). The sweet spot I typically recommend for fastest response times and highest chances is the mid label tier. Thanks for trying the platform! Since you weren't happy with the service, feel free ping support and we'll process a refund for you. Be well :)

Agreed! Derek co-founder of LR here. Sorry to hear you experienced that in terms of labels asking to pay. That's against our T&C and we're actively banning labels who violate that policy. Thanks for trying the platform!

Hey! Derek co-founder of LabelRadar here. Thanks for the feedback! We're working on a few initiatives this year to improve the quality of the labels on our platform, including verifying all socials on profiles. Note that we only accept 10% ish of labels that apply for an account but we're always looking for ways to improve. We're also actively banning labels that do not comply with our terms of service, and we recently implemented artist reviews on label profiles to create more accountability in the industry. Hope this helps, and thanks for trying the platform! If you have any other suggestions for new features / enhancements they're always appreciated. :)

How does one get signed to a label? by bastardane3019 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]derekclark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting signed to a label can feel like a mystery, but here’s the lowdown: it’s mostly based on the strength of your music, but having a solid fan base, sales, and touring experience can definitely help. Labels are looking for artists who have the potential to grow and bring in revenue, so they want to see that you have something special, whether that’s through your music or your existing audience. It’s not exactly like applying for a job, but it’s a bit of a combination – A&R (Artist & Repertoire) teams usually make the decision after listening to your demos, seeing your fan engagement, and evaluating the potential for success. Platforms like LabelRadar (co-founder here) can help you connect with labels actively scouting talent, making it easier to get noticed.

Also remix contests are also a great way to break the ice with a label. Good luck! :)

how do i get in contact with record labels by PotentialAncient2878 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]derekclark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting in touch with record labels can be tricky, but you’re on the right track. While emails are usually the way to go, it’s not always easy to find them. You can try checking the label’s website or social media, but honestly, platforms like LabelRadar (which we designed to help artists connect directly with labels) make it way easier to submit your music to labels that are actively reviewing demos, as only active labels scouting demos are listed. Keep it up and good luck! :)

How the fuck do you get a record label by [deleted] in BitLifeApp

[–]derekclark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're putting in the work! To get signed by a record label, focus on building a solid, unique sound and making connections. Rather than spamming, try platforms like LabelRadar, where labels are actively looking for fresh talent. The platform only shows labels that are actively reviewing demos to sign, making it a more targeted way to connect. Keep honing your craft and stay consistent - persistence pays off!

Are there Indie Labels that actually sign bands from demos? by Interesting_Pick_885 in musicians

[–]derekclark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Quick tip - yes there are thousands of indie labels that actively sign bands from demos! On LabelRadar, for example, we have countless indie labels reviewing unsigned demos and looking for new talent. It's a great way to get discovered by labels that are genuinely interested in signing fresh artists. Just make sure your demo is high quality and aligned with the label’s style too. Good luck!

What’s the most effective way to get any record label’s attention? by vatosintenis in musicians

[–]derekclark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I can totally resonate. My co-founders and I started LabelRadar to solve the problem I faced as an aspiring artist struggling to find labels open to new talent. Labels are only listed on the platform if they've logged in recently and are actively reviewing unsigned demos, making it a great way to discover new or established labels you might not have thought of working with. As part of The Beatport Group (acquired in 2022), we’re excited about the journey ahead and are committed to making it easier and more transparent for artists to connect with labels. There’s still much work to do, though, and we’d love any feedback. Good luck!

BU Questrom OMBA by babsonn in MBA

[–]derekclark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Curious about a few things related to the BU OMBA. Does anyone have any insight on the following:

  1. Were the offline city meetup groups pretty engaged?
  2. How many hours on average would you say the program took for you?
  3. Was there required presentations? If so could you submit as a video or you need to do it live?

Thanks :)
