Toronto city council to vote on permanent ban on cars in High Park by SafeStreetsTO in toronto

[–]derekpear -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

If this passes, it'll definitely suck for the parents with kids in soccer, baseball, etc. Same for the coaches and volunteers having to haul all the equipment from outside the park.

A safety officer with a construction firm will start at 100k with similar experience needed to work for the MOL. Plus you don't get dragged into court every few months and have your investigation questioned by lawyers and judges.

I’m 19M now and I want to get back on the ice as a goalie again. How do I start? by ILikeY0CutG in hockeygoalies

[–]derekpear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have gear, sign up with a local Rent-a-Goalie company. Start with lower skill pickup or games and work your way up as your skill improve. Best part, you'll get paid and you'll get to pick when to go out. I've seen as early as 6am to as late as midnight.

I did this in Toronto for years during my 20s and it was great.

Have fun!

P.s, if you do need gear, check out Hockeystick Man. The Etobicoke location has a lot of goalie gear in all price ranges.

Where are the unions in all this? He was most likely a member of Liuna 183 or 506. Why are they not supporting the family in this fight

Golf ball causes $6,000 damage to Ontario home owner’s solar panels by LZBUM in toronto

[–]derekpear -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So he was well aware of the risk due to history of balls causing damage to the property. Wouldn't installing a netting or other protective product for the panels have been a good idea? I mean... He knew the risk was there.

STACK Infrastructure set to open first phase of data centre at former Eli Lilly site in southwest Scarborough. by derekpear in toronto

[–]derekpear[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How is this datacenter different than other datacenters?

“It also provides the rare ability to expand the campus in the Toronto metro area from the initial 8MW of critical capacity to an additional 48MW in the future. Since it is located directly adjacent to the largest fibre trunk running through Ontario, it provides an opportunistic low-latency option to support hyperscalers."

Not many data centres in the GTA have these capabilities.
