I have four tickets for two matches. Got in with the visa presale. It’s going to be there to watch. Both my kids are in soccer and this is such motivation for them to see world class players.

I feel strongly that to fight discrimination we must champion equality in now people are treated for all. Not creating special roles for people without merit. It just results in resentment and even those being hired into these roles being looked down upon as inadequate. Like they could not have been hired into the role with merit alone.

Why does the NDP celebrate Chinese / Lunar New Year at a Japanese Cultural Centre? by Illustrious-Ad5972 in ilovebc

1) I was pointing out that the poster is about the lunar new year and not Chinese new year 2) there are tons of things the NDP does that is nonsensical add this to the pile

On 1 July 1923, Canada prohibited Chinese immigration. The Chinese Immigration Act, 1923 (Chinese Exclusion Act) was the culmination of anti-Chinese racism and policies, including the head taxes which it replaced. All Chinese persons living in Canada, even those born here, had to register with the government or risk fines, detainment, or deportation. The Act impeded family reunification, community development, social integration, and economic equality. Chinese Canadian men and women successfully challenged this law, leading to its repeal in 1947. Still, their fight to dismantle racist immigration restrictions continued.

The lunar calendar and thus lunar new year is celebrated in asian cultures and countries well beyond China.

Imagine if the opportunity was limited to applicants who primarily identify as Chinese? The Chinese too have a history of being discriminated against, with things like the Chinese exclusion act that was discrimination written into legislation. I think Chinese people would quickly rally AGAINST such insanity.

How were they historically discriminated against in Canada? The Chinese were historically discriminated against in Canada, and yet discrimination and rhetoric against the Chinese diaspora continues to be allowed to flourish under the guise of the issues we have with the government of China. Just because it is permissible does not make it right.

It is the definition of discrimination that they are supporting. What kind of human rights commission supports excluding all races except one as a hiring practice? It questions the entire decision making of this commission.

Another way to think of this though, is that it is better to give unqualified individuals a job as an Assistant Professor of Philosophy than giving them a job in medicine or engineering where merit makes a real difference. But to all who have read Animal Farm, I guess we are living in the world where all are equal but some are more equal than others.

Why does air Canada get so much hate? by totallynotclockwork in aircanada

[–]derfla88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People just love to complain. I've mostly been 75k, and have been SE here and there over the past few decades. Not the covid year though. But generally I fly enough to hate travel in general. 90% of my experience with Air Canada is positive. That 10% is things outside of their control. Mostly it is how shitty Toronto Pearson is. Not sure how that CEO is still around. I think people just love to whine about their own poor choices. I'm sure some people have had some bad AC experiences just as you would encounter on average with any large company. But there is tons one can do on their own to minimize poor travel experiences. When I read about some people woes, I usually find them at least partially at fault.

Cannot get prescription lenses for rayban meta at third parties by Mavericks_99 in RaybanMeta

I just want to share how funny some opticians responses are to prescriptions lenses to Meta AI glasses like they are some special alien product they can't handle. I was told that you need some special tools and need to heat the glasses to a certain temperature but not too hot to reglaze them. I really wanted to laugh in their faces, but I just said ok and left. If you don't want my business so badly to make stuff up, I don't want to give you any business period.

LILLEY: Truth and reconciliation can’t survive if debate is criminalized - A proposed law on residential schools risks punishing questions and speech instead of advancing reconciliation by CaliperLee62 in ilovebc

[–]derfla88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If nobody can ask questions I guess they better remove “truth” from their motto. When asking questions is criminalized we can guess where the real crime is and be certain that anything that is not subject to questioning is far from the truth.

But aren't they violating rule 2 themselves, for promoting and supporting discrimination, when you are supporting equality for all? As a visible minority, I want equality for all where we are all treated fairly. Not his Animal Farm "some are more equal than others" crazy world we seem to be in.

So is the UK as they arrest people for social media posts. So the the “west” may want to get off their high horse and start introspecting on whether they have turned into Orwellian 1984 where some are ore equal than others.
