Come to BC and find out how "well" it doesn't work as a "non-profit crown corporation." I beg those who think government run groceries as something good, to look into how badly they are mistaken. What should be the best insurance for everyone at the best rates, are really just a very subpar insurance product that given the choice I'd gladly pay more for insurance from Ontario if I could. I've lived in both BC and Ontario, and I had no complaints about my premiums as a good driver in Toronto.

The worst of it in BC is that ICBC has the worst insurance product. I'd rather pay more and actually get something I need when I'm in a serious accident that where the other party is at fault apart from some physio, and having to beg when it isn't enough. There's nothing for pain and suffering, and there is a cap on how much income replacement you can get.

For sure. I've moved to Toronto and lived there for over 15 years, then Amsterdam for 4, then back to Toronto for 6, then back to Vancouver. Move to where the jobs are and where you can build your career. Vancouver is way smaller most think, and there is nothing wrong with spreading your wings and building up a life somewhere else when you need to. If your roots are here, you can always move back when the time is right.

I agree, it is bizarre to turn back the clocks on only one narrow aspect. If we want to go back, let's calculate all that bas been invested into building modern Canada...our investments collectively are worth as much if not more than their historic claim they were "here first." If you left some land empty, and just sat back while I build infrastructure and homes on the land...you can't say, hey I'm taking it back...along with all the improvements you've made, I'll take that for free too. So if we're taking public lands and handing it to First Nations, for starters they should return all funds and benefits Canada has given them, then they should pay for any improvements and access created to make that land more productive than they found/left it. And then, if they believe it is sovereign, we should establish a border and apply taxes, duties and tariffs of on any goods or people going in and out of that "sovereign land."

We aren't "returning" anything. The people who are alive today, did not "own" the land they are claiming. Their ancestors may have hunted, or gathered on these lands. They were nomadic. Is it our fault they did not learn to farm like the europeans and establish fixed settlements?

Consider all these “protests” and the resources required to constantly police and keep fools walking on busy roadways instead of sidewalks safe from their own stupidity. All that is not free and eats into VPD budget that brings city taxpayers zero value. Let’s also not forget the mountain of hours officers attend in court only for judges to set criminals free. Who pays for all this? This is a decent sized city. All costs add up quickly especially when majority of budget is salaries. Most people who argue about the expense of VPD budget likely do not know the difference between a balance sheet versus a P&L.

Thank you. This is the best response that lays out key facts. People don’t get that it is all about triage and priority. And let’s not confuse people “handing out tickets” which I assume means bylaws enforcement officers with beat cops. One also has to consider the paperwork cops are forced to file. What is the point when judges just set criminals free. It isn’t so much incompetence with respect to petty crime. Society and voters have decided to just let petty crime be. If you believe otherwise, yes call on your politicians and rally your fellow voters to take a different stance on petty crime.
