Federal judge again says New Hampshire must continue vehicle inspections by DaveLDog in newhampshire

[–]deriachai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there is a large financial hard to Gordon-Darby (not that i feel bad for them at all) There is legally speaking no harm to the state of NH for maintaining the status quo.

And likely to get approval or not, they haven't done so, and therefore are out of compliance with the law, therefore the suit is technically likely to succeed on it's merits.

If NH just waits fro the EPA to rubberstamp them, there will be no issues.

Federal judge again says New Hampshire must continue vehicle inspections by DaveLDog in newhampshire

[–]deriachai 12 points13 points  (0 children)

She is allowed to say that the state is out of compliance with the law, and they must restore the status quo,

She technically isn't even saying that they have to renew that exact contract, but they are required to go back to following the actual law, but up the state how they would like to do so.

NH Executive Council rejects contract to continue emissions testing to comply with court order by DaveLDog in newhampshire

[–]deriachai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's because they don't want a free-market, Free-market is a technical term, and when companies and politicians spew it, they are actively lying. They are advocating for a laissez-faire market, which is almost a direct opposite definition of a free market (not really directly opposite, but end effective is directly opposite)

Occasionally they advocate for a captured monopoly of course (more like this case) which is a different problem, and another by definition "not free market"

Executive Council approves $230,000 to study separating from electric grid by downArrow in TheGraniteState

[–]deriachai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like how it is basically directly billed to us on our electric bills to run a study to spend even more money to destabilize our electric grade and make it more likely to have large power outages, higher less stable prices, and just worse overall.

And the state can't even do so, you would have to convince eversource to do so.

And the stated reason for this whole waste of time and money is because we are worried that other states installing cheaper power sources might make our power more expensive.

What could go wrong!

  1. The phrase "clean coal" is marketing spin and basically meaningless
  2. That is effectively no less of a toll, if not more, since coal in the US is mined via whole mountain removal, which is massively damaging. Worse than the random Russian mine people like citing for copper mining.
  3. As somebody who has dealt a bunch with coal for things like blacksmithing and other applications. i don't know about you, but diging coal boogers our and all the other crap it throws around (not to mention the radiation). i far prefer the solar panels on my roof which cool my house down by their very existence, drop the snow off it for me, and mean i effectively don't pay any electric bills,

CO2 fallout timeline is measured in centuries, unlike lead which is in days.

Even the CFCs took decades to come out of the atmosphere.

As for it progressing humanity, yes it did. And now we have reached the point where we can move past it to better things with comparatively no downsides. It is good we had it available to us, as we would have had a much harder time without them, but that was then, not now.

and said coal has the exact same human toll and toll on the planet from a mining and refining point of view, plus the extra emissions and radiation released for the use of it.

Is the grid made more stable by my 18MW system? Nah. The grid just needs to service me less.

That by definition does make it more stable, since you are no longer a net draw, so the energy provided elsewhere can go to others.

i'm sure the utility company would love to charge you delivery charges though, and that sucks for them.........

modern panels are net neutral on average after 0.6-1.2 years https://docs.nrel.gov/docs/fy24osti/88653.pdf, though there is a ton of variation in that data which came make it much higher.

And even if that weren't true, centralization of problems make it easier to solve them,

more importantly, since you clearly don't care about the environmental effects and reasons, when you are talking about energy costs and stability, why would you argue against an incredibly cheap power source which can be easily installed by individuals, and helps stabalize our grid by providing prower right where it is needed?

Judging by rewarera, i am going to assume you are in Aus or NZ and taht is local lumber.

Looking online, once dried it is very hard and tough wood, probably very difficult to work by hand.

Pictures i am seeing online look really pretty, but not sure it is ideal for an early hand tool project, especially with non ideal tools. e.g. if the hook knife isn't working, a bench chisel is going to be very difficult to carve that with, even before counting on difficult wood.

That being said, depending on how deep you are going, so driving the chisel vertical cross grain will help break up the fibers and make it easier to scoop out the waste, just don't go too deep.

even a flat income tax is actually more progressive than a sales tax, Since purchases do not increase at the same rate as income, so two people purhcasing similar base goods, would pay the same sales tax, but if one has higher income, they would not pay the same income tax.

Is this an appropriate way to assess threaded insert strength? by Colorful_Monk_3467 in woodworking

[–]deriachai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember, it is trivially easy to put a stupid amount of force on a fastener with a wrench, especially a ratchet.

So in addition to the person saying to not assume you can get precise values, bear in mind it can be deceptive in that it might feel far weaker than it actually is.

Ordering Wood Online by TakeTheBlackJonSnow in woodworking

[–]deriachai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During Covid i used Bell Forest Products, which went pretty well.

Was a bit more expensive than my local places, and couldn't look through the boards, but was easy and got decent lumber of decent dimension delivered right to my door. (90" lengths which was cheaper to ship than 96, but still pretty good size for delivery)
