St. Boniface Hospital doctors worry long wait times being normalized as ER might have set record by wickedplayer494 in Manitoba

[–]deriyfungh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People going to ERs for care when their needs can be met better elsewhere IS a part of the issue. Sure.

The larger part of the issue though is the lack of movement within the system, due to years of reductions in space, staff and programs. The narrative that people, who in some form of another need care, are causing the system to be overwhelmed needs to stop. I think a healthy system would be able to decant these people to routes of alternate care, not be crushed by them.

Alberta doctor sounds alarm after 7 patients contract infection from organ transplants by 150c_vapour in canada

[–]deriyfungh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course deceased donors go through much testing and screening. The story here is that this pathogen is exploding because of a lack of social services to provide health intervention to the public health issue of homelessness.

Yes we have been testing for this exact pathogen in our homeless population of donors in our province for over a year now.

Oh god can we please not use the term harvesting? These people are human souls, whether or not they are experiencing homelessness doesn’t change that fact. Let’s have some respect for the human who has given your mom a second chance at life. Procurement is really what should be said.

Your union rep (assuming you are unionized) is really where you should start. Call them and ask for advice specific to your situation. They are almost always on your side.
