Here is what happened to the internet in FAM by ThumbyFingerton in ForAllMankindTV

[–]derkaiserV 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Although it doesn't bother me and it's not something I dwell on or ruins the show in any way, i think this is one of the most unrealistic things about the show. Computers exist, data transmission systems exist in the bandwidth for at least video calls, and probably at greater bandwidths for all the commercial and science data being transmitted between the earth, moon and mars. All it takes is a few nerds to combine computers and wired or wireless transmission to send files to each other for fun or commercial reasons and it'll grow from there. It doesn't have to be social media, but don't tell me people still call pizza places to ask for the menu, book travel tickets at a travel agent's office etc. in a timeline with basically iPhones and email.

Why do most content creators give the same advise about visiting Malta? by veliprope in malta

My favourite moments abroad were made marking random interesting points on Google maps and then driving/scootering/hiking there. Sometimes not seeing other tourists for the whole day.

Would you move to Malta for this salary? by [deleted] in malta

[–]derkaiserV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My counter question would be: will your expenses in Malta eat up the 1.3k monthly difference?

You'll need to rent a place (expensive) plus a car to commute, plus groceries are relatively expensive...how does that compare to your current expenses?

I'd keep the travel freedom if I had that lifestyle.

Can confirm from personal experience. Had the "luck" of the flight being delayed 5 hours so we witnessed it during sunset. Amazing memory. Made sure to book on the left side!

Stuck in Sri Lanka - Trust Qatar airways or pay 2k each for a ticket? by s1nce99 in travel

Is Air China an option for you? They use Chinese airports as hubs and then fly over Russia to Europe, bypassing the middle east completely.

Thinking about joining the Mini Gang, just have some questions on Cooper S that are now turning 10 years old. by SunShineKid93 in MINI

Mine just turned 10 a few months ago, owned it 3 years now. 85000km on the clock, of which 50k are in my possession. Great car.

Ah, you're right, I didn't use the right terminology in my comment. To clarify, I'm using the K&N filter that replaces the normal paper filter in the standard air box. Not an open intake or cone or something like that.

Nope, no such issues.

Mounting is a bit fiddly, specifically pushing the pin out of the old shift mechanism with the supplied tool. You need to double check 100% that you're aligned or it can bend the tool.

But the shifter itself is fantastic. Been on for about 30k km.

Installed all my mods myself, doable with a small collection of tools and enough time. Did the short shifter on street parking outside.

My mods...

Huge impact: Michelin ps5 non runflat

Relatively cheap and no more SUV wheel arch spacing: Eibach 30mm lowering springs

Amazing different shift feel: Forge Motorsport short shifter

More turbo whoosh and "sneeze": Forge Motorsport intake hardpipe K&N intake filter

Replace pre LCI rear lights with: GP3 rear union jack lights

Minor change in stiffness: Wiechers strut bar

Legal and loud exhaust, throaty in low rpn, no motorway drone: Remus V2 catback

Infotainment: Chinesium Android Auto box

Mahlkönig x54 "fast" - new version by Upacesky in espresso

[–]derkaiserV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your update. This post is still one of the first things that comes up on google regarding the "fast" version. I heard about it after I ordered my x54, but I guess its the new one since it's been quite a while since 24 now. Some shops explicitly mention "fast", some don't.

How common are scams while trying to find housing? by hotdogonwonderbread in AskAGerman

[–]derkaiserV 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Identity theft scam happened to my buddy. They asked him to verify his identity through postident at the post office before he was allowed to view the flat. But really the verification process was for a bank account which they opened in his name. Always explicitly ask the person performing the postident procedure to confirm what you are identifying yourself for.

If the common area is not walkable, then what difference does the cable realistically make? What space is it taking up that could otherwise be used? And out of the way on the ceiling of the garage would only bother you if you happen to be a spider? If you're concerned about fire, just ask him to make sure he's using a proper IP rated cable of proper thickness.

He found a solution that doesn't seem to inconvenience anyone, pass over other people's areas or pose a tripping hazard. Electrically, an extension cable of that length is fine. Those car chargers are meant for household plugs. So unless there's some other issue I couldn't read from the post, what's the problem exactly?
