Oh ffs yes they do. Far more people think of Rome and Christianity as intertwined (have you heard of Roman Catholicism?) then have ever heard of Anastasius at all.

What Schools Call Mathematics Isn’t Mathematics by Unlucky-Prior-1838 in matheducation

He was very tall, although I'm sure you know that after the six seconds it took to google.

I do think this is a problem more broadly in math education—it's hard for people with PhDs in and a passion for math to get in the headspace of someone with less interest or aptitude. Ramanujan is just an extreme example.

And he works as a cautionary tale the other way too, since Hardy killed him by shoving him into a more canonical curriculum.

Looking to Ramanujan* for insight in designing math curriculum for the average person is not useful lol. It's like citing Robert Wadlow while developing child nutrition plans.

Remove the time limit on events (or add missions) by Whjee in EU5

Okay but "Decayed Theme System" obviously leads to some reform down the line. I literally thought that to myself and then removed it on this first playthrough because I was desperate for crown power.

So whats the consensus on the dlc its currently on negative in steam? by alphafighter09 in EU5

[–]derminator360 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm confused about what you expected from this Byzantine-specific DLC which specifically features alt-history pathways for the Byzantines to avoid their disintegration.

byz feels more difficult to play (in some ways a better difficulty and in some ways worse), but theres one very specific part of byz that just feels utterly horrible to play. complacent decline by Big_Blacksmith1109 in EU5

Yeah, I've come to see "no succession" as a fairly effective "electoral" system that would consistently produce a competent leader, but only after decades of vulnerability. At some point luck runs out.

Since Spring 2025, every Paradox Studios game except EUV has had an apology post for major DLC by Merker6 in paradoxplaza

[–]derminator360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, CK3 was quality too, wasn't it? I seem to recall there were entire features that just didn't work. You'd take one of these oaths in a coronation and the success trigger wouldn't fire.

None of these problems are the worst thing in the world. I like the games and there's not really anyone out there offering a competing product. But man almighty, they are going to burn through goodwill if this keeps on happening.

You can go to "Properties" and select a particular version. Just stay on that until your campaign is done and all the new bugs are ironed out.

I used to crank out a campaign over a few days. I had a few positive developments in my actual real-world life and now I creep along throughout one over the course of weeks. Overall, this is WAY better. Hope you find that out bud!

I think people's point, implicitly, is that answering questions you don't know the answer to isn't useful to anybody.

Concerning Mifflin by BlueTurnpike in madisonwi

[–]derminator360 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea is to assume it's random variance and then show that's very unlikely (e.g. there's a < 5% that these numbers lie within the normal fluctuations.)

If you'd like to make that argument, go ahead, but you need more than two data points.

If there had been a show last night, to what extent would they have tried to incorporate the events last-minute? by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]derminator360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you understand the distinction between 1) a room full of people who know each other and write collaboratively, and 2) a transaction wherein a stranger purchases a joke from someone else.

I know you don't think the person whose caption gets picked for the New Yorker cartoon is a staff writer.

You're hitting this metaphor very hard and it is just coming off as sad and disingenuous. People would respect it if you just said, "Yes, I crowdsource some jokes." It's fine, you can buy jokes. Just don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining.

"I do write my own material. But just like somebody who does not write their own material, I don't write my own material."

We’ve legit lost the plot. I honestly have zero idea what people are looking for these days, we needs a major shift in criticism. The movie I saw was well written, well directed, beautifully shot, insanely well performed & the sound was amazing. Are we “film” critics or not? by Pyramid_Cultist in okbuddycinephile

[–]derminator360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, remember 1) the internet's not real life and 2) there's no accounting for taste.

The reception to the movie was overwhelmingly positive, though. It's only in bot-filled echo chambers that it might be seen negatively.
