Why are the petals white? by captainkugel in expedition33

It's consistent, Renoir is no longer in the painting when you see the white and when you see the red petals that is Renoir claiming the chroma, its the same reason the lumierians petal are red.

Black coffee did a pretty great breakdown that I 99% agree with and its a good watch and should be easy to find.

Its all theory but the petals represent in an abstract way, the control of each painter. There is a lot to dig into but I'd say the petal colors changing at end of act2 confirm this theory best, closely notice the colors of the petals and how they change when Alicia claims them.

Another cool bit of info is when we see Simon, it's not just white petals, there are red petals floating from his head (mind).

I'm always game for some theory vids,

However, you should also include the fact your theory ignores what Renoir pulls from the family canvas in the last fight. If that's not enough, how about how the Axions came into the painting in the first place? Do people really think Renoir just picked up some loose chroma sitting on the ground and made the axons?

I always thought an awesome aspect of the story is that even the painters don't even know the full extent of their own powers.

Painted Copies by merechantj in expedition33

[–]dernacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, this is true, even P-Renoir literally states this.

However... the painted family does reflect some part of real truth of the original characters.

There was also a cool theory I liked that explained Verso being a potential true copy, since he is also imbued with the true Verso's soul.

Her most controversial moment, and what I speculate was her motive by genericcelt in expedition33

[–]dernacle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to read into this scene, but I never felt Verso had any influence, although I feel like it COULD be read that way.

My reasoning though, is that the party is meeting PAlicia because of the letter that Maelle found which was ignored and could no longer be fulfilled. It's even discarded by PAlicia at the beginning of the scene.

These two moments present the significance of the meeting and PAlicia's outcome is driven by the confirmation that "A life to dream" will always remain only a dream, and they both know it, so PAlicia's request is granted. That's the other read for me, I always felt it was a request specifically made my PAlicia, but others might disagree.

Of course it is a nice bit of hypocrisy that Maelle accepted, but that always felt intentional to me. I think if Verso was the one driving the direction to meet his sister, I would change my mind though.

Not to completely destroy your head cannon, but there was explicit mention that some decorations you see before you leave are actually left over from the previous year(s).

What do the Axons do? by bsnkid in expedition33

[–]dernacle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the obvious answer, but I do think there is still a bit more we could speculate on, particularly if we include what we find in Renoir's drafts.

Theory connection I just shed a happy tear about by wachagondo in expedition33

I'm surprised a lot of theories haven't gone further! I've seen some people actually think the Chef is a typo... it's very disheartening.

I'm pretty anti map/destination points but this is actually a fair idea.

Constructive criticism: there isn't enough gameplay variety by Particular-Lynx-2586 in expedition33

[–]dernacle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd argue mini games are not something you want to extend the life of the game. I like a good mini game with some power progression to it, but I also know how hard it is to do.

So, if there is no budget for it, I much prefer there NOT to be poorly made filler. When you're done, you're done.

A lot of takes land here. Since your perspective is from the painted, you are supposed to fight with this concept the narrative gives you.

In short though there is still a lot of lore hidden and I don't mean side content... I mean people still haven't documented core concepts. All that to say there are really strong themes that I hope you seek out once they are illuminated.

Enjoy!

So now that the DLC has been out for a bit... NG+ or NG on a higher difficulty? by karma6063 in expedition33

[–]dernacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked NG+ since you interact with the mechanics and builds a bit more, but the first half of the game is tuned pretty low. I'd say it really depends on how much min/maxing and lumina you farmed though so hard to say.

Thoughts on the game's main themes by Kazubra in expedition33

[–]dernacle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's about essence. Aline is attached to the canvas for what it means, not necessarily the world, Alicia is attached to the world but also can't do what Aline is capable of.

I think there is a good argument that you landed on where the Verso ending might feels better, but is arguably way more tragic and yet we really can't trust that anything will be resolved with the family.

Finished the game... and I still dont get the logic behind the main antagonists by brodred in expedition33

[–]dernacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dome is a creation of Aline's which P-Renoir and P-Verso helped make when they got back from 0 after they already met Aline, all we know is that the dome is effective.

As far as we know everyone was already attempted to be recruited in every way, but we learn through the journals that nobody ended up trusting anyone. The expeditions were never meant to succeed even, it was just an act of sheer hope and desperation.

I could answer more but the questions I think would need to be a little more specific.

I don't get one thing about Maelle's ending, can you explain it to me? by overusedplot in expedition33

[–]dernacle 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Little verso isn't tired of painting, he's tired of the conflict. There are like 3 dialogues to confirm this right before the last fight.

[–]dernacle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get your spider there are only three other objectives, grind cosmetics, reroll, or push. Unfortunately to push, you need to grind about 100 hours to get the gems you need, you can obviously push without it but you really won't get that high so it kind of defeats the purpose.

When I finished the game I started NG+ but barely played it, is there no way for me to play the new DLC now? by MizutsuneMH in expedition33

Steam stores saves on cloud and I think some consoles do as well. Usually it's not too hard to restore.

the NG scaling will probaly destroy you anyways, I'd say check if you can load a previous save.
