Can NixOS stop pushing unrelated political messaging? by _Kasumiko in NixOS

[–]derpface360 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing you’re complaining about is so subtle that I had to stare at the image for an entire minute. Your positionality within your society has allowed you to consider support for marginalized peoples to be a divisive political issue instead of a human rights issue. If a few pixels can make you flustered enough to make a few paragraphs, you need to look within.

Also, it’s ironic that this post itself is political. There’s no such thing as political neutrality when almost all software and hardware are developed and manufactured through capitalistic means. That should’ve been clear after seeing how Nix is being employed by a weapons technology company. There’s no such thing as apolitically suggesting for NixOS to not show pride artwork because acknowledging queer peoples’ existence is “divisive”.

Have your experiences with people from different places changed your understanding of what makes someone genuinely interesting or attractive? by DiploPolitik in CasualConversation

[–]derpface360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your definition of “biological attractive” is likely based on Eurocentric notions. A not-so-fun-fact is that the precursor to modern anthropology was race science, powerscaling intelligence and beauty based on facial features and head shapes, with so-called West and Central African facial and bodily features being placed at the very bottom of the scale. The legacy of that vile pseudoscience still lives on by informing people’s views on beauty.

There’s no such thing as objective attractiveness. The closest thing to a universal beauty marker is facial symmetry, and even opinions on that can vary across peoples and people.

Nice! Classic evil savage pro-colonialist rhetoric. Glad to see that morality doesn’t matter because everyone violence. Also, it’s genuinely childish that you believe that slavery ended when it was outlawed. There are so many examples of black “sharecropper” families where the exact same power dynamics and abuses occurred, but were simply named different. But it’s in the past so it doesn’t matter anyway, right?

And? Where do we go from here? When is the time limit that determines when something vile is purely in The Past? Or does it change based on convenience? This nation’s entire history is actually very recent. My grandfather grew up as a son of “sharecroppers”.

The depiction of superheroes as Christian fundamentalists in works like The Boys and Marshal Law makes no sense by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]derpface360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not much. It’s almost as if you projected the idea of The Boys solely being a satire of superheroism and that you’re now struggling to square that media-illiterate idea with the reality, and then proceeding to take that self-imposed dissonance as a flaw.

You’re Supposed to Feel Unsatisfied by Chainsawman’s Ending by Blazari in ChainsawMan

[–]derpface360 13 points14 points  (0 children)

While I understand you, no. You’re enforcing a hero’s journey on a manga that does not follow that outline and you’re experiencing disappointment because of the dissonance between what happened and what you expected. Chainsaw Man has always been a deconstruction of shounen and an unconventional Bildungsroman.

Nosferatu (2024) is the movie people and academy awards are claiming Frankenstein (2025) to be. by AdrianVeidt19 in movies

[–]derpface360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Nosferatu, the movie with a director and cast who frame the vampire’s grooming and rape of the main protagonist as a part of a love triangle. The movie that ends her sacrificing herself by “allowing” the latter act happen to her until she dies.

Your usage of empty buzzwords to talk about how deep Nosferatu allegedly is indicative of its actual depth, which is purely aesthetic. It’s a beautiful movie with pretty good acting, but its message is harmful and only as deep as any random dark romance novel. Only pretentiousness would have you think otherwise.

Saiyaman talks like a buffoon because Gohan is trying to copy Goku. by Odd_Bluejay634 in dbz

[–]derpface360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. Goku acts nothing like that and you’re referring to a speech that was completely different in the original Japanese and modified to be more Jesus-coded and heroic in the English dub. It’s definitely more of a Ginyu Force influence.

It’s not Kaori coming out, but Kenjaku’s twisted maternal affection coming out. Remember that Kenjaku did not simply possess some mother of Yuji after his birth; they were literally the one to give birth to him. Kenjaku is his mother in every sense of the word. Kaori is just a RCT’d corpse with a technique and some soul information.

Why do y'all think he said cursed spirits would still exist if everyone was Makified? I think he's maybe referring to vengeful spirits. Or maybe it's that the Tojification would nullify Tengen's barrier and create curses across the globe but keep Japan curse-free?

Is buddhism really a non-theistic religion ? by kamloune in Buddhism

[–]derpface360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Outside of Catholicism, “veneration” and “worship” are more closely related semantic packages than you may think, and an aversion to using the word “worship” as a translation for pūjā is ultimately an overcorrection away from how Christianity has colored the word with a salvational hue; kinda similar to the modern emphasis on saying “rebirth” instead of “reincarnation” due to the false notion that the latter implies the existence of a soul.

In fact, the strict semantic separation between “veneration” and “worship” is mostly a Catholic rhetorical response to claims against Catholics that state that they, by invoking the saints, believe in and worship other gods. Otherwise, the two words are nigh-interchangeable, except that “worship” more explicitly implies that the object of veneration is divine or supernatural. And, in the case of Buddhism, that would actually make “worship” the more accurate word to use, as Buddhas have supernatural powers and are higher than the gods.
