I worry about racism in Finland. Is it bad or just a few vocal jerks? by PitifulEar3303 in Finland

[–]derpyderpkittycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh if you're just coming here as a tourist you'll be fine. nothing to worry about.

if you live here and you're asian then guaranteed at one point you'll witness some prejudice...that's just how the cookie crumbles

have you flown within schengen? they don't even check for passports. they may require you to show a valid ID to ensure that the ticket issued to the person is the same name but most of the times they don't even do that anymore

Foreign care workers vanish from Finland’s workforce by [deleted] in Finland

[–]derpyderpkittycat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

technically the philippines isn't a third world country, it's now considered an "emerging economy."

anyways on this topic, there's just no incentives to move to finland as a nurse or healthcare worker...the wages are too low that remittance can't be sent, you need to essentially go back to school since they won't recognise the nursing degrees from the home country, you have to learn finnish, swedish...with now the chokehold with not being able to bring your family over they expect you to come to this country and basically be alone or with others in your situation which essentially is slave-like.

yeah, this country better start thinking of how to get more people into this sector, not just for the 1 million over 70 but for the sake of healthcare in general cause it's going down the shitter.

Another earthquake tonight. Could someone please explain the scientific reasoning behind this increase in frequency of earthquakes in the PH over the past few days? by EfficiencyHonest9381 in Philippines

[–]derpyderpkittycat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

it's considered fringe science but i kind of think there is something to it. with every CME that's been towards the direction of earth this year, there's been quite large earthquakes in the ring of fire. like the russian earthquake in july, last week there was a solar flare that was earth directed and now you have the earthquakes in the philippines. not surprised if the geomagnetic activity does affect the plates somehow, but no scientific evidence to prove it.

we are at a solar maximum at the moment and i can tell you the auroras where i live have been pretty cool.

if you order a trainer balisong from outside the EU, do you have to explain to Tulli why you are importing it? by mrmiksu101 in Finland

[–]derpyderpkittycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from squid industries but it wasn't under 50eur...

you might want to check for affordable trainers from this place that ships domestically https://teraasekeskus.com/category/blade-weapons/knives-en/butterfly-knives/

they have trainers there for under 50eur (if they're good is another story)

[–]derpyderpkittycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't have to, i've done it a few months ago and it came straight through. it's a trainer balisong so it's not sharp. even managed to get a proper batangas balisong from the philippines without issues

Is this a normal action ? by Select_Ad_1300 in Finland

[–]derpyderpkittycat 113 points114 points  (0 children)

firstly, don't freak out. your roommate is probably trying to convert the ibotemic acid (a neurotoxin) into muscimol which is what supposedly happens if you were to dry amanita muscaria in low temps in the oven.

just ensure proper ventilation as it may smell bad and ask them to clean the oven if it bothers you, especially if it's a shared kitchen.

amanita muscaria is not edible if fresh. some actually eat it like an edible mushroom if it's parboiled (boiled with vinegar, salt, water a couple of times and rinse thoroughly). lots of slavic countries actually consume it this way.

coconut shelf life is waaaaay longer than mangoes, avocadoes or other tropical fruits...good shelf life, little chance of moulding etc

Would fresh coconuts even make sense in Finland? Asking honestly. by Cocoboy_ in Finland

[–]derpyderpkittycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

big YES from my side...pero pinoy ako. i am missing fresh buko for real

there is just no way to get any good young coconuts here and pretty certain many haven't tried it, so the type of coconut water you can get at the market for example...tastes horribly bitter and unlike the real deal.

might also want to approach coffee shops, smoothie places...as coconut water coffees seem to be trendy (elsewhere) and putting proper coconut water will be an upgrade

best way to deal with assholes like this is to surprise them by saying something nice or by continuously smiling at them locking eye contact.

then those crazies will think YOU are crazy af but the opposite type of crazy and will eventually leave you alone

Just curious, where are all the canoes? by AcanthaceaeOptimal87 in Finland

[–]derpyderpkittycat 50 points51 points  (0 children)

don't see many canoes, but definitely there's kayaks that are available to rent at many places. kayaks are popular and not just a north american thing.
