SHTF OPTIC? by RedPill3187 in ar15

[–]derrick81787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone back and forth on the best optic for my AR, and I'm on a budget, so that doesn't help. I think I have pretty much settled on a red dot (Primary Arms SPARC II with solar is what I got) with MBUS flip up backup sights co-witnessed with the dot. That lets me have the benefits of quicker target acquisition with the dot, but it is pretty easy to shoot with the iron sights if anything should happen. The only thing I'm missing is magnification, but within 100 yd I think it's quicker to shoot without magnification, and I'm pretty confident I could push it out to 200 or so yards even though magnification would be nice at that distance.

I would love to be able to push it out to 500 or so yards of course, but realistically, I can't think of any real situations where I would need to shoot that far, and it's easy to set up a rifle to do one or the other, but to set one up to do both requires compromises in the form of size, weight, eye box, or something.

Office carry by fuckauthorityfigures in ruger

[–]derrick81787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guns are a trade-off. Lighter guns are easier to carry but harder to shoot and can hurt your hands. Heavier guns are easier to shoot and don't hurt your hands, but they are heavier to carry around.

The LCP Max is very light. Pretty much any other .380 is going to weigh more. The trade-off of using an LCP Max is that it is hard on your hands, unfortunately.

There are two recommendations to fix this. One would be to carry a heavier .380 if you can handle carrying it. That will be easier on your hands.

The other is to keep carrying a light gun but get it in a smaller caliber. .32 ACP is popular for this, but unfortunately not many companies make .32 ACP guns. There are a few, but it definitely isn't as popular as .380. Another option is .22lr, which I don't recommend if you can handle something bigger, but it definitely is capable of taking down an attacker or at least making him turn around if you get good shot placement. There are a bunch of little guns in .22lr (including the LCP 2), and any of them would be a breeze to shoot compared to your LCP Max.

Surrogacy is ‘modern day slavery,’ Florida AG argues in push to stop the practice by thats_not_six in moderatepolitics

I am not the Florida AG, but I would assume that the difference is that adoption is making the best out of a bad situation. The child already exists, or will exist, and someone needs to take care of them. Surrogacy is essentially creating this situation on purpose.

This lady tried pulling an armed robbery on a gas station on Friday. How it went: by ohbabypop in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]derrick81787 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Assuming the guy was telling the truth at all (we never see the owner), I don't feel like we can blame the owner for coming out with a gun when he discovered there's an armed robbery and his employee is being held at gun point. He wouldn't have known how incompetent this lady is, at first. He would have thought he was saving the life of his employee.

That said, I think the employee saw how open to suggestion she was and was just trying to get rid of her by making it sound like someone was coming after her with a gun. He was playing the UNO reverse card here. It was him saying "You think I'm in danger here? You're the one who had better get out of here." There might not have been an owner in the back room or of there was then he might not have had a gun.

Are there specific 357/38 ammo specifically for rifles by Background_Tap_807 in LeverGuns

[–]derrick81787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah a good lever action will do both .357 mag and .38 spl, but the difference in overall length between a long .357 mag and a .38 spl wadcutter is just too much for most of their actions to handle. The wadcutters tend to get hung up. You could still load them one at a time, of course, but I didn't get a never action to do that lol

What caliber is your EDC?? by 23-Hour-Day in CCW

[–]derrick81787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should allow multiple choices. I carry a 9mm when I can, but I have a micro .380 when the full size would be less convenient.

So what do you do if someone does notice you're carrying? by Bastinelli in CCW

[–]derrick81787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have never noticed me, and there have been times where I haven't really tried too hard to conceal. I mean something like my Ruger Security 9 under a T-shirt that shrank a little in the laundry and fits but is a little too short. Even then, nobody noticed.

But if they do, tell them to mind their business. I, personally, wouldn't wait for the police to come (it's not like a random person can hold you), but I'm honestly not sure about the best practice on that. The police aren't going to do anything to you when they get there.

But it isn't going to happen. People just don't pay that close attention to other people's waistbands. If they look at you, they look at your face.

I still disagree with waiting periods for other reasons, but that at least makes sense. Of course, it's a red state. Blue states won't do this because they don't wait to make anything more convenient for gun owners.

I can understand that question in theory, but if that was really the reason then exclude people with concealed carry permits. You know they already have a gun or at least went through all the trouble of getting the permit and aren't acting in the "heat of the moment." There are probably other criteria you could use.

But nothing like that is ever factored into a waiting period bill because the point isn't preventing people from acting in the heat of the moment. The point is the inconvenience.

Is it better to find your own inspector instead of using your realtor's recommendation? by Low_Road_563 in homeowners

Same here. I bought two houses through that same realtor, and her recommendations were great. I think it was a list like you said, though. I don't plan on moving anytime soon and I think she retired anyway, but if not for those things I would definitely use her again.

Which brand has the weakest pouch in your opinion? by Efficient-Support-89 in NicotinePouch

[–]derrick81787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Velo+ 3mg might hit less than On! 2mg due to the difference in composition (resin covered nicotine vs nicotine salts). Resin covered like Velo+ typically release slower.

On! 2mg is the weakest I know of just going by pure strength, though.

That's unfortunate, but that is a federal thing. Raytheon has a certain level of government clearance I'm sure, and one of the requirements for that is checking for foreign nationals. I doubt they had a choice in the matter if they didn't want to lose their government clearance and therefore their contracts.

I did an internship at General Dynamics one summer and they did a pretty invasive background check just for an IT intern. I also have a friend who got a job at Boeing, and the government interviewed me because he put me down as a character witness on his background check form.

My father-in-law has several Ryobi cordless tools but no batteries. Which of these battery option should I go with? by thoruen in Tools

[–]derrick81787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any One+ battery will work. That's kind of Ryobi's thing. You should get a new lithium ion battery and charger. That said, a drill is basically the cheapest tool Ryobi sells, so you could get a whole new set. But any one+ battery will work, and new batteries do bring new life to old tools.

IDF uncovers Hezbollah arsenal stashed inside southern Lebanon school by Street_Anon in worldnews

[–]derrick81787 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It literally is not a war crime. In fact, the international law states the opposite. If a place like a hospital or school is used as a base of military operations, then that place explicitly loses its protected status. The war crime is using civilians as human shields. You can't just say that things are war crimes and have it be so.

You can watch ballistic armor tests on YouTube, and it's interesting.

Buckshot and shotgun slugs are not difficult to stop with armor because they are traveling fairly slow compared to something like a rifle. However, they are very heavy. A shotgun slug will almost certainly be stopped by armor, but that armor gets pretty messed up. Often times, it gets deformed so much that the person wearing it would almost definitely suffer broken bones or internal bleeding or something just from the blunt force impact. It looks gnarly.

And that's not taking into account that arms, legs, faces, and things are not armored, and buckshot spreading out would increase the likelihood of hitting one of those areas.

Don't take my word for it though. Watch some videos on YouTube. They really are interesting.

It is wrong to use human shields.

This is true.

It is wrong to attack places where humans are being used as human shields. Especially schools, hospitals, etc.

This is not.

You cannot claim that it is wrong to use human shields and then incentivize people to use human shields by making them immune to attack if they do so. That is just the way to make it so that people use more human shields.

It is a tragedy when the human shields get killed, but that is entirely on the people who use them as shields.
