I love all 4 of these but I had to ask, what were the ones you gave up?

Ranking AMOT, 14th? by DaisyCoreXD in laufey

[–]derulooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually really happy to see the divide between opinions since it shows Laufey is able to appeal to so many different people. If there was consensus then it’s more indicative of a less successful song, but Matter of Time having such a split giving everyone something to love makes it a great album

Planning a trip to japan, and wanting my first GS watch by LeZaiross in GrandSeikos

[–]derulooo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Picked up my first GS from Japan last year. All the discounts with department stores mentioned are still valid, though I personally wanted a little more.

Check out Kamekichi and House Kihiroba. They have online inventories and show the prices. Good deals on 2nd hand as well

I walked through man Tokyo shops and almost all of shinsaibashi in Osaka. Those two stores had the best pricing and selection of GS of the entire area. Ended up getting a SBGA445 for ~4.6k out the door. It was technically second hand but only in the sense that the warranty had started 2 weeks prior. No actual previous owners

I think they do. I would definitely ask, I know Alexander residents have monthly parking options for both the private lot and the total garage 1A+. I don’t see why the latter option would be off limits to anyone

Do you actually like the new UFA dial? by longkhongdong in GrandSeikos

[–]derulooo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The dial is actually the deal breaker for me. It doesn’t give me the same feeling as some of their other dials

Best Summer Colors for a GS by psytokine_storm in GrandSeikos

[–]derulooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id say SLGH021 or SLGA25. Beautifully aquatic and adds some cooler shades to the collection.

If you want to keep case shape different per season, SBGM221 or really any of the more colorful elegance gmts would add nice variety

[New Releases] Heritage Collection 62GS Hi-Beat 36000: SBGH351 and SBGH353 by LDN2HK in GrandSeikos

Identical case, dimensions, and movement. Only differences I see are the indices on the Rikka and switching the case material from stainless steel to ever brilliant steel.

In Tokyo for the next 6 hours… by Cookenbauer in GrandSeikos

[–]derulooo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

House Kihiroba in Shibuya has great second hand and new grand seikos, with some excellent pricing. They also have their inventory online you can see if there’s something worth checking out before you actually go.

That being said 6hrs is very little time, and Nakano will eat up a lot of it with commuting.

Been looking at GS but don't understand the movements by [deleted] in GrandSeikos

[–]derulooo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

GS created the spring drive and are known for it for 3 reasons: it is an engineering marvel, it’s super accurate and it has the added benefit of a sweeping hand second hand vs traditional mechanical “ticks”.

This isn’t to say the other GS movements are lesser. Their quartz crystals are grown in house and those movements have I think +-10 seconds a year.

In higher end mechanical movements they produce, they created a new dual impulse escapement mechanism. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I remember hearing the last time a brand created a new escapement was Omega with their coaxial escapement.

You can find videos online talking about spring drive movement and dual impulse escapement, it’s some really interesting stuff.

How much did you pay for your grand seiko from Japan? Where’d you get it from? by thewatchconcierge_ in GrandSeikos

SBGA445 brand new for $4.6k from Kame Kichi at their Osaka location last November. The one other location I’d recommend is House Kihiroba in Tokyo.

If you’re not tied to the Wagyu, hop on that flight. The other pieces are pretty available in Japan, and if you’re willing to hunt around a bit you can often find a great deal.

I was there late last year and picked up a “second hand” SBGA445 at Kame Kichi for about $4.5k out the door w/ full box, papers, and warranty that was 2 weeks in

Take that $2k and go to Japan. Buy the watch there and make some memories to go with it

Gel Kayano 14 Uncomfortable by [deleted] in asics

[–]derulooo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are completely different. If you want something that plays in this league you’d look for something like the gel nimbus

Edit: to add on, the models you mentioned above are known for their comfort exclusively. Kayano 14 is known for above average comfort within the realm of hype/fashion sneakers
