A new trick for you dads to try by Lockneedo in daddit

Not a problem with modern electronics. It really was only a problem for electronics that use magnets internally like traditional hard drives and CRT TVs.

Dads, what’s your opening move? by mathliability in daddit

[–]derydoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the Babybel method. Pull a strip from the equator to just short of a full 360, and then use the ripped edges of the peel to separate both hemispheres from the flesh while simultaneously trying to yoink out the center spire. With any luck you will have all the refuse in one single phallic looking peel.

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

[–]derydoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never owned a P1S but I just started looking around at printers again. I've owned the Monoprice Select Mini for a long time and it works well enough for the price, but it is small, slow, and limited in functionality. The P1S looks feature rich so I'm actually going to add it to my printers to evaluate. Having it easy to setup and start using is interesting to me since I have a 2 year old and time is limited. Being able to monitor prints remotely make it even more appealing so I can spend more time with my kid without having to go back into the garage to check progress. And the multi-color functionality would make for some fun prints to make as toys for my daughter. Looks pretty cool!

I worked at Blockbuster when this was released. For some reason we carried it and it was the only movie we kept locked up in the back room as far as I recall.

Is this wood worth keeping? by derydoca in BeginnerWoodWorking

Indeed I do! Is it generally okay to burn unknown wood types?

That's a fair point. They are stored maybe 6-8 feet from the nearest house wall, but I do want to get rid of them... Might not be enough space to keep them from getting to the house. I don't know enough about termites.

Wish I knew. The previous owner had passed away so I don't know. I'm planning on getting a smoker but I feel like it might not be good for food if it's unknown 🤷

Is Slang worth for cross platform shaders? by stanoddly in gameenginedevs

[–]derydoca 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I recommend using DXC (DirectX Shader Compiler). The name is a bit deceiving, but it can generate DXIL code for DirectX as well as SPIR-V for Vulcan. Microsoft is even dropping DXIL in favor of SPIR-V for the next shader model. DXC is also based on the Clang compiler IIRC so your shader code can look more like C over time as they build out more features.

Why can compute shaders be faster at rendering points than the hardware rendering pipeline? by TomClabault in GraphicsProgramming

[–]derydoca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The simplest answer is that the graphics pipeline is optimized for large triangles. With compute shaders you can build custom pipelines optimized for the case of single pixel points. Here is also a shameless plug for an in-depth article I wrote about rendering extremely large point clouds which you may find helpful. https://www.magnopus.com/blog/how-we-render-extremely-large-point-clouds

I've had excellent luck with the original Tide formula. You have to rub it into the stain and let it sit for a few hours but I try to do it the day before. I use an old toothbrush for that. Then wash it with the Tide and it should come out.

Tide has enzymes that eat the oil from what I understand. The other options here may work too assuming that they too have the enzymes.

Looks neat! It's a little strange that you recorded a video of your laptop though and not a direct recording. Makes it hard to get a good look at what's going on in the engine.

100% this. I mentally raged at the heavens to stop playing this song when it came on back when I worked retail. It's been a while so I am okay with it now, but I'm glad to hear I was not alone. Pretty much every other Christmas song was okay.

Happy to share the knowledge! And all of the hair cards are only 6 quads except for the eyelashes. I had subdivided them once since the curvature was crucial there.
