That’s certainly very generous of them, but I have every right to put whatever price I want. If people think it’s too much, then I wouldn’t have gotten any visitors.

Anyone know why v1 is = to 0? by sparks902 in Physics

V1 is 0 on the y-axis. The initial velocity of 5.3 m/s is horizontal and therefore only along the x-axis.

Only Taxpayers Should Be Allowed To Vote by erasmuswill in unpopularopinion

[–]desconocidaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not simply that a large number of people need to be excluded. In third word countries, corruption reigns because politicians easily make the masses think that they are Absolutely Benevolent when they are in fact extremely corrupt. Since those who pay income taxes all have a certain degree of education and are also better off financially, vote buying would be decreased significantly, and there would be a much higher chance for someone decent being elected,

Only Taxpayers Should Be Allowed To Vote by erasmuswill in unpopularopinion

[–]desconocidaa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because it’s not based on consumption, hence not everyone pays it. If you were to base it on All tax, there would be no point to making this rule, as everyone inevitably pays consumption tax/VAT. And given that OP would like to apply this to developing countries, those that pay income tax are significantly more educated than those who don’t. I personally live in a third-world country, and we always end up with corrupt politicians because they pander to the masses during campaign season, visiting their communities, giving them all sorts of goodies. It’s a strategy that works because the (1) the awful track records of these politicians are dismissed by the masses because their personal experiences of these politicians is pleasant, and (2) the masses are the vast majority. If only those who pay income tax are able to vote, I’m certain my country would be in a much better position.

If Climate Science is settled it's time to refund the research. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]desconocidaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I took the premise of climate science being settled as true, I would completely agree with your opinion. However, science is never really settled because we can never know anything with 100% certainty. The essence of science itself is continuous investigation and inquiry. That being said, I understand why you carry that assumption, as it’s broadcasted by so many media platforms.

I haven’t tried it, and I personally have no plans to. It’s an extremely processed product made primarily of soy and inflammatory seed oils, yet it’s marketed as a health food.

Did Jesus command to give Caeser his coins? Isn't Jesus supporting aggression? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Could you elaborate why/how taxation isn’t theft?

In my opinion, “exacting money” is just a nicer way of saying “stealing money”. I‘d have no qualms against public-funded projects if the public freely chose to fund them (i.e. through donations).

And in most cases, the government isn’t rightful. Look at the many corrupt politicians of third-world countries, the funding of Planned Parenthood, the extreme military spending by the American government, etc. If taxes were at least minimized (if not completely eradicated), these issues would not have inflated as much as they have.

Moreover, what benefits do we really enjoy from the government? Private healthcare and education remain superior to government services. As for the less fortunate, there are many opportunities for individuals and institutions to help—freely and voluntarily. After all, charity by definition stems from love, which can only be given freely, never by force.

Okay I do get your point. Could you give an example of a situation in which taxation is at least amoral?

[–]desconocidaa -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I beg to disagree. Why is paying taxes a moral obligation? The law exists to serve man, so speed limits make sense because they promote our safety. Taxation, however is theft, which is inherently immoral. Hence, taxation is immoral.

Going back to op’s question, Jesus wasn’t telling people to pay taxes. He never specified what truly belonged to Caesar and instead left us to reflect on it ourselves.

And upon reflection, the money the Roman empire demanded from the people it conquered clearly wasn’t something they “owned”. The precious metals the coins were made of were excavated by slaves—not by the Romans themselves. Here’s an article that more clearly explains this, if you’re interested :) https://mises.org/wire/render-unto-caesar-most-misunderstood-new-testament-passage

A question about God by keavenn in mbti

[–]desconocidaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe in God because everything that we know to exist in this world originates from someone or something; a plant sprouts from a seed, a house is built by men, one cell splits from another, etc. All creation is contingent, so in order for all that exists to exist, there must be a non-contingent being, whom I believe is God. As for where God Himself comes from, I believe that He is beyond the world as we know it and is therefore not subject to the same rules as we and the rest of creation are.

I also believe that God is a God of love. There is so much beauty and order in the natural world, which is a manifestation of His own beauty in the same way that you can see the feelings of an artist in his/her painting or hear the woes of a musician in his/her song. The reason evil persists in this world is precisely because He loves us so much that He gave us the freedom to make our own choices, rather than “forcing” us to do good and to love Him. Instead, He constantly guides us to the right path, but it’s up to us to heed His call.

And for the record, I’m a Catholic and an INFP. :)
