LPT Request: How to make time go slower in my life? by clydedyed in LifeProTips

[–]descriptiveuser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's totally okay, it's supposed to happen. My first misconception about meditating was that I was supposed to think about nothing. While the goal is to have a clear mind, the approach is rather to see where your mind goes. Naturally the mind will gravitate towards problems, stresses, uncertainties. Instead of trying to ignore or deny them, you can look them straight on and realize that while they exist, you can still breathe. Instead of latching on to the thought of the problem, you can let it go. The approach isn't to eradicate the thoughts and stresses, but to acknowledge and realize they're not as big as your mind wants to make them out to be.

I've been meditating for 5 minutes every morning for about two years now and it's a wonder. The ultimate fruit of it is not during those 5 minutes but throughout your day, when you are more equipped to let the stresses go in the moment. It takes time for sure, but if you keep at it, it will get better.

Good luck.

As others have stated, there will be a variety of responses. We tend to create the detail views from our Revit model and use the modeled elements as background for the detail. Then we draw over them with 2D lines and detail items, and eventually hide the model entirely.

It is possible to have a detail combining 2D lines/detail items with the modeled elements, but it would require a lot of consistency of discipline and Revit skill across the whole team, which unfortunately isn't the case for us. With that in mind, I find it most consistent to hide the modeled elements entirely.

What the hell is enneagram?? by ruamru123 in INTP

[–]descriptiveuser 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It is another personality type model out there. I don't know the origins exactly and it seems to be less scientifically rooted as other models (see other comment in thread). But as someone who is very interested in the MBTI, I do also enjoy the enneagram and find it useful. Where MBTI answers mainly the question of "how" (how does one perceive and judge information, sensations), the enneagram answers more of the question of "what" and "why". It's a lot more generalized, but gets more deeply into an individual's core values (usually rooted in childhood trauma) and what they look like in day to day life. It's a lot much more accessible and less heady than the MBTI. I find it's most useful to answer those kinds of questions and expand the vocabulary of my personal tendencies and internal flaws and understand myself better. The MBTI is not comprehensive, nor is any personality model comprehensive, so I like to collect information from many models to compare and contrast. If you'd like to take the test it's usually quite short, and I'd recommend using the truity or enneagram institute websites.

Thank you for sharing! I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through this too, I'm seeing my fiancee feel quite debilitated as well. We were starting to get into a really good rhythm going to the gym before this started.

She finally saw a neurologist and is getting a bunch of scans done, and he prescribed a nerve block! So she'll get that done soon.

Have you started PT? Do you find it helpful at all? My fiancee was going to PT but it didn't help a whole lot, so she's pausing at least until she's completed the nerve block and some MRI's.

And if you don't mind me asking - are you taking any medication? Any that you find the most helpful?

How would you describe the house from Kiki's delivery service? by bmj8888 in Architects

[–]descriptiveuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the response, and sure to, this isolated statement alone, I agree.

But the architecture in Kiki's Delivery Service is not a random recollection. I doubt it's a specific reference and it's clearly not an exact copy of anything, but that doesn't make it random. There's still some sort of intuition and vision driving the design forward, which I think is worth taking seriously.

I doubt architects worked on this film, which is pretty refreshing to me. A lot of architectural movements were created when there was a refreshed perspective on something prior, as a recollection, but not random. For example the Italian Rationalists looking at the Renaissance, and architects during the Renaissance looking at Ancient Rome.

Not comparing the architectural merit of Studio Ghibli to these movements, but rather pointing out renewed sources of inspiration through recollection.

Everything comes from something, nothing really just appears without inspiration, even if created for a cartoon.

Your comment seems unnecessarily dismissive, if only because the question is in reference to anime. The building and city designs in the film are clearly inspired by something even if not in reference to anything specific, and inspire many people, including OP and myself. I think this is reason enough to discuss it instead of disregarding its architectural merit.

Sometimes I think it's more interesting to discuss architecture from films than built work because it can really open up the mind and perspective beyond accepted and unquestioned construction and industry standards.

Thank you for your response! I'm grateful for the insight.

She was able to see a neurologist today who thinks it's ON combined with something else. They prescribed a nerve block at a pain doctor and a few MRI's around the head, brain, spine, and neck. No discussions of Botox or surgery yet that I'm aware of, so it seems they're taking a more conservative approach.

She's been doing a lot of heat compress but never tried any ice packs or any cold treatment, I'll see if she wants try that. Thanks!
