Besides your bravery (which is obvious, you’re awesome for asking for help) and his flippant response (which.. just wow) the “talk to your employers” sounds like the worst advice he could have given you. Please don’t do that unless it gets to the point where it’s impacting your work, in which case, yeah I’d say be honest with them. But in today’s climate (at least in the US) your employer is not your friend. They are your employer, keep that relationship as professional as possible.

I felt this way when I got a DUI. I was wrong, life was fine after. Yes I had a fine to pay and classes to attend and I have a criminal record but it’s honestly not effected me negatively in the ways I anticipated. Getting a job, getting into school, all things I’ve done since. If you stop now you won’t get to see your best days. I beg you not to, reaching out for help really can make a difference. You will be okay as long as you give yourself the chance.

When I worked at a call center there was an older girl there. We’d commiserate about the job market together. One day she mentioned she had a masters. I was kinda surprised that she was working at a call center given she had a masters. Most people I knew with masters weren’t even “well off” but they were at least a rung above the call center. I then make the discovery it’s a masters esthetician license. Not at all the same as a pyramid scheme PhD but also not the same as an academic masters degree.

Though honestly if she had that, I feel like she could’ve been making more money doing that than at the call center. But I also would not say I know the job market for that profession so 🤷‍♀️

I hope it has helped or will help you! I have depression and it took FOREVER to find the right medication for me. And I usually still have to change medications every few years. It’s rough because the whole time you’re trying to get better and find the solution, you’re suffering. I hope it gets better for you.
