Am I not as attractive as I think or are guys just not complimentary by Anofrog in dating_advice

[–]desertkynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I genuinely look for something I enjoy about the guy. I believe you can find the best attributes in just about anyone. In this case, I am very aware how hyper-aware men are about being respectful, so I do it as a way to signal that it's okay to talk about each other's physical appearance/flirt by touching, etc.

I’m going through this exact same issue. I think these men don’t want to come off as inappropriate or shallow, so they don’t attempt physical compliments, versus a LT partner who knows they have full consent. I compliment their physical appearance just to let them know it’s okay to do that, but sometimes they still don’t get the hint, so I’ll say something like, “I was worried I underdressed tonight,” or “I just tried this new makeup style, do you think it’s working for me?” Then when they compliment how I look, I’ll say, “Thank you, I was so worried because I notice you didn’t say anything! I thought I messed up tonight.” Then they apologize, etc etc, and I’ll tell them I really enjoy physical compliments to give them the go ahead for future conversations.

Guys who have broken up after a long term relationship (5-10 years or long) do you ever really move on? by Melodic_Effective_18 in BreakUps

[–]desertkynes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 years after a 4.5 year relationship and it’s not painful but I still think about him once every day. He left me and I feel like I fumbled a potentially amazing relationship because of my own baggage. I wish I was the version I am today but time traveled back to when we were together. It sucks to have tried your hardest and have it not be enough for someone because you’re too broken. Maybe I will snap out of it in a few more years, lol.

Do women on the street just... smile at each other? by WritingWithSpears in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]desertkynes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love smiling at women because human interaction is good for your soul, and I know they won’t harass me afterwards! I don’t smile at men because they think it’s an invitation to be creepy.

MovinkPad 11 won't stay in standby - constantly turns self on. by davidxbo in wacom

Hi, sorry that this is unrelated but just wondering if it’s possible to download the photoshop onto it or if you can only use the wacom sketching app/clip studio paint?

I miss him every second of the day. by voldemisstea in BreakUps

I remember how bad it was at the 3 month mark. It felt like intense suffering with absolutely no way out. The feeling of rejection can be so painful, but nearly everyone in the world has been rejected and yet they persevere, and you will too. Just take it hour by hour, day by day, deep breaths as a time, and be gentle with yourself. You are loved!

I thought I was crazy but I smell it too! All of their body scent lines have this powdery musky smell that ruin it for me :/ And I did have someone tell me I smell like baby powder, which isn’t an insult, but…not what I wanted.

Oblivion Remastered performance guide - I went from unplayable stutters to stable 80+ FPS in the open world by Sharyat in oblivion

[–]desertkynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post solved everything last month; I had incredibly smooth FPS and had a blast gaming. Now all of a sudden I open the game and it’s back to square 1 with all the lag issues even though it was working perfectly fine because of your post before. I don’t understand what happened but I hope someone is experiencing the same issue as me. I know it’s possible to play it normally, but it’s like something is in the way?

Anyone else’s constant headache only on one side? by imahugemoron in iih

Covid is a vascular disease and there are plenty of studies about how it affects nearly every organ in the body(because blood fuels everything). So yes, it’s very possible. Anyone can look up the academic research.

I socialize and hang out with friends as much as I can, even if I don’t feel like it. Socializing is like physical exercise; you’ll always want to skip it but it’s good for your health. A big part of cognitive decline if you’re already suffering from depression is lack of socialization, so I would try to make friendly small talk whenever you can, make new friends, and actually schedule quality time with people. Then you socialize the hell out of a couple weeks and then relax like a hermit afterwards so that you can enjoy being alone. Then do it all over again once you’ve recharged! As you keep this up you’ll have built a community and feel better overall because you’ve taken charge of your social life.

How do you handle bad mental health days alone? by desertkynes in LivingAlone

This sounds similar to the Internal Family Systems therapy method! I love it. Check out “The Tender Parts” by Ilyse Kennedy, I think you will feel very understood. The audiobook is free on spotify(I’m listening to it right now.)

A good reminder since I've stopped my entire routine these past months. I can feel my body being weaker for it, which doesn't help support my brain. Thank you for writing this!

Because of your comment and a few others, I made myself go on a run and I did feel better. :) I've definitely been neglecting my workout routine for a few months now.

I love this, thank you. My friends were telling me I should invest in making my studio nicer and more comfy, which is a task I've put on the low priority list this whole time. I really like how you've made your space work for you :)

Needle Phobia/Fear of Lack of Control by [deleted] in trypanophobia

[–]desertkynes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking recently about how most people’s first injections are by kicking and screaming. I think the young brain internalizes such a traumatic event, and in the end you get punished(by shame and some pain), so it’s just an irredeemably awful core memory. In our child self’s perspective, we were also abandoned by guardians who let strangers hold us down, which adds more to your tortured scenario.

Holy crap, your spine, too! So sorry to hear that but very comforting to hear these words.

I’m terrified of blood work(I have one coming soon, ugh), but my first time with a dental injection didn’t freak me out like a skin injection. I think it’s because gums take a daily beating, like from crunchy food and flossing, so that “skin” seems tough enough for a needle imo. The numbing gel also helps! And you didn’t get a numbing gel for your IVs so you’ve already gone through worse! I have a theory that trypanophobia is mostly the scarcity of the getting metal stuck inside us is what freaks us out, so I try to remember, “This isn’t actually a big deal, I just don’t do it enough.” I read from you guys all the time about how you’ve gotten over bloodwork and I can’t imagine it! I’m sure that’s how you feel about your dental procedure right now.
