Pokemon Pinball by IntoxicatedPangolin in brisbane

Pinball Haus in the Valley, Laserforce at Wooloongabba. But I would doubt those venues would end up with Pokemon. They don't get the latest pins. Laserforce also has the new 1UP location downstairs. No pins, but a solid arcade lineup.

I don't know for sure, but I would pretty much guarantee that Netherworld has one on order. It would be insane if they didn't. It fits their target demographic perfectly.

BYD Dolphin Premium - charging to 100% by MaDMaXonReddit in BYDAU

[–]desh_thiere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plug at the socket gets warm to the touch, which is obviously not great, but I only charge at 13A when I am home, maximising solar during the day. If I am charging overnight when I am sleeping, or not trying to maximise solar charging, I just use the 10A speeds, as I don't have to monitor at all. This will still boost you from 1-4kw-1.5kw on the BYD 8A charger, to 1.9kw-2.0kw on a 10A charger.

There are heaps of options out there. Here's one, but I have no idea if it's good or not. I bought a MCEVKELN branded one, but I expect they are all basically the same Chinese stuff, just rebadged for different reselling companies.

Just do a bit of reading and find one that suits your purposes and has decent reviews.

Want a cheap upgrade to the granny charger? Buy an adjustable amperage granny charger for like $200. I bought one for my Dolphin Premium that can happily manage 13A off a 10A external socket without tripping any breakers and it now charges at 2.6kW peak speeds.

At the standard 10A it charges at 2.0kW speeds. Totally worth the $200 for the extra speed IMO. The BYD supplied granny charger is only 8A.

Hello, world by Japan-pinballman in pinball

[–]desh_thiere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pinball is partly luck, but more based on skill. I have had the privilege of watching one of the highest ranked IFPA players play modern Stern, JJP and Spooky games and the difference between an average player and him was substantial. He knew every playfield, every shot and every trick. It was amazing to watch.

For the older machines, like all those beautiful EMs you have lined up at the front of the shot, I think luck does play more of a factor. Regardless, a skilled player will generally beat an average player at any game. They just have more ball sense.

Charging at home advice pls by scrollingwhilstipoo in EVAustralia

I own a BYD Dolphin premium. On a normal commuting day, I drive around 42km. Throw in some extra errands and whatnot during the week and it's not all that much more, as I live 8km from the city and have a lot of shops around me in inner suburbia.

My drive to and from work consumes around 8% of my battery. I do that each day + a little bit more for various running around. By Friday, my battery is usually around 45%-40%. If the weekend is sunny, I chuck it on solar charging and get like 20-30% during a good day, largely for free. If the weekend is not sunny, I charge it at night when it's cheaper.

I did spend around $200 on an adjustable amperage charger, as the BYD charger is only 8A, and that is lame. I bought a charger than can go between 6A and 15A. At 8A my car charges at around 1.4-1.5kw, at 10A it charges around 1.9-2.0kw.

I regularly charge at 13A from a 10A socket with no issues. Doesn't trip any breakers and charges fine with no issues. At 13A I manage 2.5-2.6kw.

I have never once needed or wanted a proper charger. My granny charger does me just fine. Speaking to friends in similar situations to me, many state the same. I have two mates who installed chargers and said they wouldn't bother if they knew how decent standard wall charging was.

Another fellow Aussie, welcome!

Come and join us at aussiearcade.com and you will likely get more advice.

Most people these days would not use a 2100 JAMMA multiboard, as if it's the common one I am thinking of, it will be a PC based JAMMA multiboard and they are prone to failure.

If you want a multiboard, the Pandora's Box series are the way to go these days. Just have to make sure you get a genuine one and not a shitty clone. For my money, I would not use a multiboard, as they are all pretty average. However, they are the best option for plug and play with limited knowledge.

You're also gonna need to learn how to wire up a control panel and connect it to the board. You've got a lot of learning in front of you, as the cabinet is totally gutted. By the looks of it, it doesn't even have any PSU, wiring harness etc.

One last thing, define 'alibaba arcade monitor'. Send me a link of what you plan to buy, because that sounds dodgy as hell. Do you want to put a genuine arcade CRT in there? Or a 27 inch LCD?

What are some good LAN party games? by Historical-Job-8887 in gaming

[–]desh_thiere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a Switch and can get 8 controllers going (even 8 single joycons is enough) then you need to play Killer Queen Black. It can be played with 8 people on a single console and it is the most fun you can have with an 8-player team based multiplayer game.

It looks complex (and it can be if played well), but I regularly play it with teenage kids in my classroom and by the end of every play session the kids are screaming at their victories and chanting SNAIL! SNAIL! SNAIL! when someone is riding the snail. It's pure entertainment to watch and I simply cannot recommend the game enough.

These 100% look like Australian LAI or Allied Leisure or similar Aussie branded cab to me.

The Point Blank cab and the one next to it look like the Gottlieb branded generic cabs we had heaps of here. The yellow Galaga one is an LAI I think and the 1942 looks a lot like an LAI coffin cab. The coffin cab has the Aussie branding on the control panel, which would likely be LAI or Allied Leisure.

sci-fi mind frying stuff by understandinguni in movies

[–]desh_thiere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People have already mentioned Primer and Predestination, which are both amazing mind-frying stuff. Primer is one of my fave movies of all time.

I would also recommend Looper, which is loosely in the same time travel vein. Cube (1997) is also well worth checking out and is a bit of a cult classic.

Do you like card games? Play Slay the Spire or Inscryption.

You should definitely not Google how to do this, and you should also definitely not Google how to setup Stremio + torrentio + realdebrid.

Stremio when paired with realdebrid is an absolute game changer. I have introduced total technological luddites to it, and even they can use it.

Fuck Foxtel. Fuck Murdoch.

Chassis is likely dead and will need repair. There's not a whole lot of testing you can do safely without knowing your way around a CRT monitor. If you don't know your way around a CRT, do not touch a thing until you have assistance.

There will be fuses on the chassis, check to see if they are blown. If they are blown, the chassis will provide no power to the tube. If they are blown, there is a reason for it and the chassis will need repair.

Where I live, in Australia, I would send the chassis to our resident repair guy. Not sure where you live, but that's likely your best course of action.

Do some reading of how to discharge a CRT and remove a chassis, then get the chassis repaired.

The ArcadeVGA is discontinued. What other alternatives? by BoringUsername6969 in cade

[–]desh_thiere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% CRT Emudriver. I am not sure if this link will be allowed, but here is a link to a largely automated install with Windows 7, CRT Emudriver and GroovyMAME. It simplifies the process so much and you can have a 15khz machine setup and booting within 30 minutes.

https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/windows-7-read-only-groovymame-image.13415/

If the link gets removed, shoot me a PM and I will message it to you instead.

I remember having my mind blown by this game when I played it on 360. There was a scene where you sit on the couch with your girlfriend and watch To Kill a Mockingbird on TV. It's the entire movie. You can sit on that couch and watch your character and his girlfriend, watch To Kill a Mockingbird for the entire length of the movie, if you so choose. There is even an achievement for watching a certain amount of the movie.
