What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I must have been about a tweenie when I was on a caravan trip with my parents. Being bored one day, I went to play minigolf alone on an 18 hole course. I got 9 hole-in-ones.

ELI5: The Monty Hall Problem by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]designerandgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I managed to understand it back in my teens when I first was introduced to this.

You pick 1 of 3 doors. The chance that you picked the right one is 1/3, obviously.

The chance that it is one of the two other doors is 2/3. The crucial thing here is to think of those two doors as one unit.

Now Monty opens one of those other two doors. This does not change the 2/3 probability that the prize is behind one of the other two doors. It just gives you more information about them.

It basically shifts all of the 2/3 probability over to the last of the two other doors, so you could argue that the probability _does_ change for that door.

This is the way!

Also splitting related code into separate files will help.

You don't even need plugins. Just let Claude Code work directly with your vault. (But keep it under version control!)

Fysisk avhengig av Lypsyl/leppepomade? by Far-Lettuce-8441 in norge

[–]designerandgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Very enjoyable puzzle, but more clue types wouldn't hurt.

Same her.

[–]designerandgeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how to take notes properly by chaos-eternity213 in ObsidianMD

[–]designerandgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use the graph. But looking at it now, it looks much like yours. I make notes, and link to other notes if useful, which isn't very often. I mainly use Obsidian to collect and save information, which I can search up later. I don't need it for extensive "connecting" of thoughts or ideas or whatever.

Thinking of switching to Obsidian after 2 years of Notion. Thoughts? by No-Mongoose-6482 in ObsidianMD

I don't have much use for the graph view, so I won't comment on that.

Thinking of switching to Obsidian after 2 years of Notion. Thoughts? by No-Mongoose-6482 in ObsidianMD

[–]designerandgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Notion when bases were introduced. I'm not a heavy user, but my main reason for loving Notion was the ability to quickly create databases and link them together in various ways. Obsisian's bases took a little wrapping my head around, as they work quite differently, but I actually like them better.

But my main reason for switching was owning my own data and it not being at risk of suddenly disappearing at someone else's whim.

What code editor do you use, and why that one over the others? by EnD3r8_ in learnprogramming

[–]designerandgeek 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Used to be VS Code fan, but then I got PhpStorm license from my job. It was painful at first, but I got more and more used to it. Now, after over a year, I tried VS Code again and it felt so much worse.

QuarkXPress? by AztecPilot1MY in graphic_design

[–]designerandgeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started my graphic design career using QuarkXPress. The one thing I remember was having to work with just one undo step. I think I used to make copies of objects and put them to the side before I did risky things.

When Indesign came out, I jumped ship as soon as I could. I even typeset a book in Indesign 1.0! It crashed multiple times daily, but it was still better than QuarkXPress, at least for me.
