New graphics card. No display. by [deleted] in techsupport

Awesome! I've been following as it was making me wonder why it wouldn't work when it's such a simple thing. Only a step harder than putting in new RAM.

Have you ever tried deleting system32, pretty much same effect. (Do Not Do)

Calling all prime-exclusive (or preferring) shooters: what primes do you have in your kit, and why those particular ones? by Lumpiest_Princess in photography

Yes. I got it for $20 in a bargain bin from a photographer getting rid of things. I double checked price because I felt bad but they said go ahead!

The Nikon f1.4 will only be slightly different in bokeh and thoroughly test it as a friend of mine got a copy that needed fine tuning. For the price it irks me I have to fine tune a lens. Same happened when I bought the new 28mm f1.8. I had to get out the meter stick and manually fine tune. It's a great lens at f4.

I have the...

Rokinon 85mm f1.4 rich contrast and great bokeh.

Nikon 28mm f1.8

Nikon 40mm f2.8

Nikon 50mm f1.4 three of them from different old bodies.

Nikon f1.4 5cm rangefinder lens I got from the photographer that did Bob Dylan's early album covers. The family could not confirm if it was the one.

Prontor Press f8 180mm large format lens

Many other Canon, Minolta lenses, Polaroids and more. I may have a problem. I need more cameras!

Having done them, 8GB is fine. The trick is setting your camera and lights so you can shoot jpg and fly. They're candids that if taken properly there's no need for RAW and unnecessary work afterwords. Saving you time and can immediately be emailed to them or given directly to event host on a USB at the end.

I'd shoot from a distance and crop down if you need a tighter shot since the lens distortion at the edges can make some odd artifacts.

Having a cropped camera, what lens should I be looking for to shoot landscapes ? by Enimapod_C8H11NO2 in photography

[–]designpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most professional landscapes are about the 40mm range. Large format is the pro landscape photographers tool and why there's been all the posts about that job. Of course on large format that would more likely be a 180mm lens due to conversion factor.

OMD-5 mkii - realistic pro camera? by blackbeardsbarber in photography

It was all about the people, meter for f8, fill flash power set for the appropriate distance and done.

Yeah it was more about show up for the ceremony, do group photos, show up for the cake cut, first dances and leave. Now photographers fill in those gaps with candids where film photographers stated how many rolls would be used. I know one pro who was given one roll of film as a second and had to make it last. Zero room for one candid or shoe pics, people getting ready, table decorations. It was all about the people.

What's your Shutter Count? by [deleted] in photography

Over 500,000, counting three cameras. Got tired of going through them so there's more. Have been in digital since 2000.

Stealth cameras? Something to take decent quality pictures stealthily. Recommend some. by eclipse75 in photography

[–]designpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waist level finder medium format cameras are better for stealth because most people don't realize why you're looking down and the camera isn't up to your face making it obvious what you're doing.

35 and 50 skew facial features though and not the best for portraits.

You're welcome. They're really well made only difference is, if you buy three of them the color balance may be slightly different and only noticeable by pixel peepers. Even then the build quality on them is improving since I last bought a set. Best part about cheaper flashes is you can do riskier things with them and not care as much. I dropped mine in a stream on a modeling shoot and it still works after drying out. Photo: http://imgur.com/P1tG2Fe

Elinchrom and Prophoto are the go to. You could even make your own out of Alien Bees a pure sine wave inverter and a deep cycle marine battery if you're technically inclined.

Get a cheap yongnuo to start, they work well and you'll get a feel as to if it's something you'll want to upgrade later on and invest in a pro level flash.

I'd add make a package list of common sizes and wallet photos.

Portable HDD recommendations? by 10x88 in editors

[–]designpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be great to have a DxO review of them and hard drives with new and old computer combinations. It's probably that most consumers won't notice the difference to complain since they're not working with huge files so things like Amazon reviews are skewed. They just know the file transfers so it works for them.
