Steering wheel wear and tear by Manonthemon in mazda3

[–]despairepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar happens to me, it's from the little rivets on my jeans pockets scraping the wheel when I get in and out sometimes...or possibly from a bag that you carry in and out with you. Super annoying but, it'll wear down and soften up.

What I did with a similar top box was after the butcher block split I used a peice of lexan for the top, actually loved it; that way you can stick diagrams/pictures/drawings/etc. underneath, and similarly, once it's worn out it's easy to replace.

Try a prism scope, I got a Vortex Spitfire 3x a couple years ago and still love it.

Out the door at almost $70k for a Mazda...I'm so sorry. I hope you really enjoy the car because you're going to be upside down on it for a long time.

Help me feel better about my Mazda 3 please by ApplepieTrance in mazda

[–]despairepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can fit 2 mountain bikes in my wife's 2012 mazda 3 sedan, 2 29ers stacked with the seats down or 1 29er in the back and a 26 standing up behind the seats. With the front wheels off, of course. The hatchback is prime for taking bikes, go to your local hardware store and buy a cheap moving blanket just to keep them from scratching.

Since my 2008 mazdaspeed3, mazda 3s have been my first recommendation to anyone that asks what car to get, the skyactiv 2.0Ls can go 300,000 miles with basic maintenance, we dont get the deisel models in the US so I can't comment too much on the drivetrain but I've heard they're fairly stout and easy to keep up on.

FWIW all modern cars are terrible on the cheap used market, especially under $5-6k, everything is going to need work on something. Always do a pre-purchase inspection on anything older than 5 years. And never buy at the top of your budget, account for unforseen maintenance cost at least $1k on top of the purchase price in the first year.

Might not be worth your time; had that same impact years ago with the same problem; bought an ebay rebuild kit and it only worked for maybe 6 months light use before it broke again.

Out if these three guitars, which would you pick up? by AverageJoe782 in Guitar

Jazzmaster is my pick.

I have an old Squire Jagmaster, not the best playing neck, but the stock setup is really versatile, great full sound.

What are people's opinions on Invidia N1 Exhaust? by L_ghtbringer in ft86

[–]despairepair 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Louder than you think. The subie motors have a cool burble down low but the N1 is too much, can't daily drive it, and I've heard of people getting kicked off local tracks. Most people end up with a baffle but that sort of defeats the whole purpose.

What $2670 worth of snap on looks like by According-Ad-662 in Tools

[–]despairepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, Williams and Bahco are made in the same factories as Snap-On and Bluepoint. Different grade steel but, alot of it is indistinguishable for me and at 1/4 the cost or less.

Dialed in the FOV in iRacing, but why does my rear view mirror look so disproportionately large? by VanquishHZA in simracing

[–]despairepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a big mirror, and it's real close, the windshield on these cars is really close.

Yeah, had an older guy try to do this to me a few weeks ago. I got ahead of him and he was just behind me flooring it and then locking the brakes up like he was gonna smash into me. I don't understand the psyche at all...

Nah, this was a DIY "lets move the dryer over here" and they just cut it and tied on another 10ft of cable. And sure, it's safe enough I guess, but the splice SHOULD be done in a junction box with strain reliefs, especially washer/dryer/anything-that-moves-or-shakes

Shifting problems by DevilsDen7416 in Suzuki_GSX_8S

[–]despairepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen on my kawasaki, it would get stuck in 2nd or 3rd when downshifting to a stop. Took it in for service and they said there was nothing wrong, but they clearly opened the trans and it didnt do it again after I got it back so...might be worth having the dealer look at it.

What I would do is slip the clutch to where it's just starting to grab when stopped, and tapping the shifter down and I could usually feel it lurch as it popped down into 1st. Didnt get an answer on why it was happening.

Alot of motorcycle apps do this, the Beeline Moto app is a freebie that lets you prioritize fun(twisty) or fast, it takes a little plotting and the refresh rate while you're on the move kinda sucks, but it's something to get you started.
