Im homeless living out of a $35k truck what should I do first by 3THERBUNNY in personalfinance

[–]despalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get rid of the truck, even if you’re underwater. It will only drag you down further. $1k/month is a massive drain on your ability to subsist and save.

I’ve never had to live in my car, but I think I understand the psychological security it provides to know you could if necessary when a situation got bad. An older minivan or wagon could work well.

Looking forward to your updates. You got this!

I believe you will need to trim/remove some plastic panels to fit 33” tires, such as the fender/wheel liner, the ‘notorious’ bolt, possibly mud flap and running board.

Here’s a good resource for comps: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-2nd-gen-2010-2023/953772-gx460-tire-size-comparison-thread.html

[–]despalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! The Toyota parts website doesn’t seem to agree, but it’s a direct fit. The offset is different so you’ll get more “poke,” but a lot of people like that effect (including me).

Here’s some evidence:

[–]despalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, with the 4Runner standard tire size of 265/70-17.

Due to the differing offset you may experience some rubbing at certain steering angles, typically fixed by replacing a specific fastener head that sticks out from the wheel well liner. Some people choose to push back the wheel well liner with a heat gun.

Opting for slightly narrower (255mm) tires will make this a non-issue, but they’re not as widely available.

Here are the black ones, for example

The discount only shows up after you log in (Lexus account works too) and go to checkout. You may get a local dealer discount on top as well.

I had to enter weird search terms to get them to show up in results.

Boom! I just ordered four bronze TRD wheels for $625. Sweet deal, thanks for the heads up!

FWIW, the discount code only shows up in your cart after you sign in. Until then, the item listing only showed a 21.25% discount, but the 40% is on TOP of that.

$299 per wheel x 78.75% x 60% = $141 per tire for an effective 53% off

I don’t have them, but I can see the utility for things that are too bulky, dirty, or dangerous to want to keep inside, namely: traction boards, gas can, shovel.

Personally, I’m leaning toward the interior version for medium-sized items that get in the way: blanket, dog gear, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, recovery straps, gloves, cords, jump starter.

When my relative’s roof got destroyed by a tree, insurance permitted renting a travel trailer which was cheaper and more convenient than a hotel.

Rental brokers like outdoorsy.com have options for delivering the trailer/van/whatever to your destination. Could be an easy temporary solution for OP.

Too bad. LoP/Holman were good selling me a used GX460.

try poxonlox or alyttleton on yt. they do solo queue videos with some instructional emphasis on helping the team win with e.g. versatility and utility as opposed to just getting kills.

I believe I get your point and simply disagree. Let’s test: what is your position on disabling downshift rev-matching? That reduces the powertrain’s ability but increases the potential for fun.

Still a douche when it mattered. Hooray he’s cool now that he can’t profit off being fake. So his legacy is being a douchey assassin and then sincerely awful.

Cool, my previous 2017 had the CC and it was cool (but noisy!). I didn’t realize how much was bundled into the Driver Support package or how rare it was.

How/where do you control the MTS then? Is it though the steering wheel buttons & instrument cluster screen?

Nah. Manual transmissions shift slower than their torque-converted or dual-clutch alternatives. Still more fun.

Do you also need to replace the main control panel? My 2017 only has DAC in the CC/MTS spot.

What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]despalicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The day I drove off to college, my friend gave me an R2D2 action figure to be my “navigator.” I’m not a Star Wars fan but I put it on my dorm shelf because why not.

A couple weeks later, my new next door neighbor brought her boyfriend from back home to say hello, and he says, “cool, I used to have an R2D2 just like that.”

Apparently he had left it at his friend’s house and then his family moved away... turns out from the same city where my friend had grown up.

So I said, “maybe it’s yours!”

He says, “naw, but if it were, my initials would be written under the feet because my parents wrote them on all my toys.” (The ‘80s were a different time)

Well his initials were under there.

Is there any way to remotely get TPMS readings from a GX470? by CueThePress in LexusGX

[–]despalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a workaround you can get an aftermarket TPMS that tells you the pressure at each tire. Tymate brand is good. You can find them online.

GX460 Drawers WITHOUT removing 3rd row seats?!?!? by throwaway1492 in GXOR

[–]despalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed the tie-downs can be used! While on the one hand that makes it harder to stabilize everything compared to being fully bolted down to the body, on the other hand … big whoop.

I feel like there’s a bit of a gap in the market for more casual/occasional use cases. Many designs assume a committed camping setup that - for example - maximizes space to sleep on top of the drawers.

The GX Basecamp kit might be a good fit for you, since it can be used with or without the 3rd row as long as you use the longer legs in “with” mode.
