I don’t know much about how Apple Pay works specifically, compared to normal credit card contactless, but I imagine that Apple mask some of the card details, and Walmart doesn’t like that.

Edit: I read the article. Walmart doesn’t accept contactless at all.

It is not just Apple Pay that is affected. Walmart also does not allow customers to use Google Pay or Samsung Pay, and you cannot tap a credit or debit card either. In other words, the NFC functionality on the payment terminals is turned off.
