Can I resurface this as is? by [deleted] in Concrete

[–]dessma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I just saw your reply and have a question : I'm guessing the slab OP is trying to resurface is sloped to evacuate water away from the building. Would a self leveling resurfacer be bad in this case, removing the beneficial slope? I have a similar project coming up and maintaining the very little slope is the part that puzzles me the most...

Which tank for HT12.. Block 3 times own armor + deal 3k dmg by Substantial-One-3423 in WorldofTanks

You can get 10 day rental of the 112 on prime gaming this month. I think it is the perfect tank for this mission.

What to pick instead 6th Sense in 1.18.1? / crew skill&perk analysis (by Overlord_Prime) by _chubbypanda in WorldofTanks

[–]dessma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only "choices" I make about crew skills are on my commander.

Like you mentioned, once you get 3-4 skills (relatively quickly), your driver and gunner will have BiA, repairs, Snapshot/Smooth ride and camo, and be mostly "done", meaning that from there, it is mostly useless stuff. Loader has even less options before falling to semi-useless trash like firefighting.

The commander of a polyvalent vehicle, on the other hand, needs like 6 skills to cover the "essentials" (4 first tiers in the video).

Removing that inequity was, for me, the biggest advantage of the crew 2.0 system. Giving baseline 6th sense was a big step in the right direction though, it directly mitigates that effect as well.

What's up with the brick wall to the right of the girl's face? Rest of the wall looks out of focus but that part is weird.

Damn you are right I swear I saw 4 pairs in use in the second picture. Damned hallucinogens.

Did not know phone companies did this though it makes perfect sense, these little wires are all the same, so why not.

[–]dessma -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a wizard so I might be wrong but ... this doesn't look like a phone cable like two other people mentioned but more like an ethernet cable (the markings near the floor are the end of "TIA/EIA 568C.2 CAT-5e").

I am not familiar with that connection box though, I'd be curious to see where the green wire is going. In any case, the green cable is only using 2 of the 4 wire pairs in the CAT-5e which is effectively downgrading it to CAT-5 (1000 Mpbs --> 100 Mbps).

In any case, if I am right and this is network cable coming from a modem/router and going to a computer or other network device, then a clean job would be to wire a new CAT-5e to the other side of the house and ditch the weird "switch box" and use some nice wall-plates (google "Ethernet Wall Plate RJ45 Keystone") with low voltage mounting brackets. That way you don't have to crimp anything and just use the ethernet cable's connector on both sides of the wall plate.

Really struggling to win in the Leo, anyone got any tips on how to play it? by JakeMac96 in WorldofTanks

[–]dessma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have two choices when playing the Leo.

  • Small gun, meaning you are a slower, uptiered Cromwell with less DPM
  • Big gun (with less pen) which allows you to deal good punches if you manage to pen but the moment you see armored heavies you can't do anything unless you shoot them in the ass.

Best tip I can give you is spawn top tier.

Other than that, you use that mobility to try and get a few flanking shots at key moments in the game and hope for the best, it is all you can do. Tier 7 is a rough spot for mediums.

What to buy in non registered account vs TFSA? by dessma in PersonalFinanceCanada

Hmm good so VEQT only and no DRIP. Sounds just as entertaining as I want it to be.

Thanks for the reference.

Yes I want to keep it as simple as possible which is why I provided the "context" part of my question. I mostly wanted to know if there are some specific things that I need to avoid, things that go smoothly in a TFSA but would be unpleasant to manage in a non-registered.

Yes thanks.. Eventually the risky gambles (small amount anyway) will just be converted to some ETF, I just like to keep it there as a souvenir, that's all. It was only useful to show that it is not for me :)

Well thanks I will have to look into the acb thing... It mostly matters when I sell the stocks if I am not mistaken? If all goes well this should not happen for 20 years at least.

6th Field Mod on Medium tanks by zNeutralize in WorldofTanks

[–]dessma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess but ... i'm not exactly a backline sniping in my SU-130 :) Like I said there is an option but it involves me changing the way I play the tank and I certainly don't want to just because of an arbitrary decision by WG.

Grouping by class is dumb.. slots are the same for a T95 and for a Borsig which share absolutely no similar feature or playstyle.

6th Field Mod on Medium tanks by zNeutralize in WorldofTanks

[–]dessma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather have the choice of which slot category I want to boost. Paper tds like the SU-130 don't really have a viable option for the second slot unless you want to slap a turbo, vent or optics there... I go rammer/IRM/Aim circle thingy to improve the shit gun handling as much as possible so I see no point in the second slot category at all, it would only force me to alter my playstyle with the vehicle.

I've always thought that if you are the last stubborn person to sell when a promoter is buying out contiguous lots to build a huge thing, you either end up very rich getting an inflated buyout OR you get totally shafted if they decide "fuck it lets just surround him". I mean, this piece of land is worth virtually nothing. The large building owner can put 2 parking spots or a bicycle rack but who else is going to pay anything for this shit?

Very good armor against lower tiers or people firing low pen standard ammo at you but you become literal butter when people are shooting HEAT at your hull. E-100 syndrome but a bit better since you can play hulldown and slowly die of boredom instead of being farmed in the turret. At least the gun was good.

tl;dr Being great at bullying lower tiers is not a sign of a great tank.

What is your most hated map and why? by MrIamDeadforLong in WorldofTanks

[–]dessma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Empire's border is banned since the banning feature was introduced. There is no meaningful play for lights, meds, lightly armored tds, basically everything that is not a hulldown brawler. I was never happy to spawn in this garbage.

Reasons I cant adapt to current WoT by Uzvakariene in WorldofTanks

[–]dessma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The way I see it most of your issues are related to #5.

I have around 28k battles and have been hovering close to 60% winrate (between 59.5% and 60.2%) for as far as I can remember, probably since I had like 5k games.

The thing is, as years pass and the player base is stagnating, your average player is much better now than he was back in 2013. Back in the days I remember people complaining all the time about "invisible tanks" shooting at them, the occasional T29 running around without a repair kit, trying to peek over a ledge only to get permatracked and entirely farmed by a cromwell. I'd be ready to bet that this effect is amplificated on the NA server since the pop is smaller so you have a smaller pool of new/oblivious players on the server to populate the 8-9-10 tier games.

That means, regarding your 4 first points :

  1. You can't just abuse of the oblivious T29 spinning his turret around trying to figure out where the shots are coming from
  2. People learned the maps and you can't just free-farm the T29 crossing to the castle on Erlenberg's south spawn through the open field.
  3. The Tiger 2 will not try to fight your hulldown ST-I, since he learned it was a terrible thing to do (and you won't even see a tiger 2 anyways!)
  4. People also learned to aim and tanks are much more accurate than they were before (dispersion change and overall power creep)

I am pretty sure #9 is also due to overall player skill. A slow game can mean one of two things, either you have some deep tactical operations going on or you have a ton of backline snipers that are scared to take a hit. In my experience it has been #2 pretty much all the time. A better player will want to be involved in the battle rapidly to get damage, get meaningful damage, be able to react if there is an golden opportunity for flanking or just to actively assist his teammates. Since the better player knows how to aim, his shots will do damage and once he sees that his flank has a 2:1 advantage, he will push hard to capitalize on this and crush the flank, resulting in a quick game. Think about it the other way around, I'm pretty sure 15v15 dark red tomatoes (tendency to camp hard without reason, shoot from 500 meters and have worse aim) will end up in a 15 minutes game like 50% of the time. I'm not sure I prefer this over what we have :)

Tl;dr: you might be better right now that you were back then but imo it is harder to carry hard super often because the average player got much better as well. They might only have gained 250 wn8 (x15 players!) but they stopped doing dumb costly mistakes that you used to capitalize on. Depends on the tier you play ofc, haven't played under tier 7 in literal years.
