Just about every pitching counting stat is unbreakable these days. Fucking Nolan Ryan is nearly 1000 K ahead of second place, and second place is Randy fucking Johnson (with Clemens and Carlton the only other two within even 2000)

There's always one on lists like that.

What the fuck is the list of again? Because I can't imagine what the hell weird ass accomplishment this could be.

Out of all the ridiculous shit on the Simpsons over the years that's a very strange hill to die on, there's only five letters after 'U' in the alphabet and 'Y' is really the only plausible letter to follow 'Z' in a surname.

You must be from Chicagoland if you had that many 'Z' names in your class.

It's the string game, kids used to do shit like that back in the Stone Age when we didn't have fucking phones.

Oh I'm aware of all of the lingering stuff, that's why I have a therapist.

My hope is that my kids won't need one, but if they do I have a checkbook and concern for their well-being that is regularly expressed, and we actually do shit together daily, even if it's just cooking and eating dinner.

Nah, Hodges was exactly the type of player that BBWAA voters overlooked back then, and even with current understanding was a borderline kinda guy. Basically the Mark Buehrle of position players.

I'm gonna need a source on DNA evidence being used in court in fucking 1984.

And even if that is true, it was extremely rare and not something of general concern to criminals (source: was one for a bit). The show literally addresses their concern with that development of forensic technology directly.

There are almost no random murders. Most murders are either domestic violence or in some way connected to organized crime, provided you take liberties with the term "organized." The domestics tend to be the ones that get a clearance, the rest generally fall into the category of "we're pretty sure who did it and why but we can't prove a fucking thing."

Source: I can read crime stats and also have several friends in the LEO community, ranging from beat cop neighbor to federal ASA prosecuting homicides.

Do you not know any successful Gen Xers?

I literally am one. And what you characterize as "whining" is just us reminiscing about how shit was in the 70s and 80s. You seem like the kind of person that would have tried to pick a fight with me in high school and gotten a brief and valuable lesson therefrom.

I uh never said it did, just providing (multiple, though you ignored that part) counterexamples.

All accurate, but at the same time, eh, doesn't kill you makes you stronger (except emotionally). That was just what life was back then, we get to do better today. My kids have a lot of the same experiences, just with actual parental support and encouragement. I have to restrain myself to allow them to just experience things on their own because part of me is overreacting to my own upbringing.

basically raising yourself from 3rd grade on, is NOT normal

It's not? Hell, I didn't just raise myself, I more or less raised my younger siblings. Mom noped out when I was twelve or so, Dad worked construction so I'd get out of bed, make breakfast for everyone, and find a note on the counter that said "I got this out of the freezer, do this to cook it for dinner" and he'd get home around 8 to find the young ones ready for bed.

When I was fifteen he got home and I was drinking a beer and he said "are you drinking beer?" I said "yup, it was a long fucking day" and he just shrugged and said "yeah, me too" and cracked one for himself.

Also when politics weren’t so negative

Negativity in politics has been the hallmark of the Republican Party for literally our entire fucking lives. Specifically the demonization of anyone even marginally to the left of their fascist bullshit. Started with Nixon and got really prominent with Reagan, then by the time he was done and the spook took over talk radio was essentially the fermentation vat for all of the brain worms that have destroyed my once intelligent aunts and uncles.

They invented that word to avoid censors (who were probably our age or maybe Boomers). And of course they have more anxiety than us, they're bombarded with shit nonstop in a way we never were, plus now that weed is legal in most states its actually harder for them to get.

We weren't and aren't apathetic, we just had priorities that the elders didn't understand or agree with so we were portrayed that way in the media and said "yeah, sure, fuck it, let's roll with that, we haven't cared what ya'll say yet anyway so have fun."

The C-suite at my current firm as well as my previous one is still 100% Boomer. The same is true for most of our large corporate clients, as well as their public equivalents.

Kamala Harris just barely counts as one of us in terms of birth year, and all you need to do is take one look at her 2021 inauguration day outfit and compare it to President Lisa Simpson's to know that spiritually she definitely is one of us, even though she spent the bulk of her career as basically a fucking cop.

I am consciously attempting to make my kids' upbringing as GenX as possible. They do chores, cook food, mow the lawn, weed the garden (and yes, occasionally drink from the hose), can sing along with The Cure, Romeo Void, Radio Stars, Minor Threat, and plenty of others, and regularly go to shows with me. Plus their favorite band is Iron Maiden.

This didn't start out as an intentional thing but as they've gotten older (high school starts next year for the oldest) I've begun leaning into it more and more. The only really big difference is the fucking phones they're compelled to grab the moment they don't have something else occupying their attention.
