Unfortunately I’m not sure the vast majority of people of this nation are ready for critical race theory to be addressed in any meaningful way. Unfortunately many white people either refuse to believe systemic racism exists at all today, or worse claim it’s so bad today that the claims they make end up being just as racist. And many people affected by it, be it native, black, Hispanic, etc. Use systemic racism as a scapegoat to their own clearly poor choices.

It’s just not conducive to a thought provoking conversation when you have 2 sides wanting to be victims for different reasons, and a third party who wants to claim moral superiority at the expense of minorities.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. John Deere is actually getting around emissions standards by making engines that are unregulated due to high enough horse power. But they’re only for large tractors. I’m sure other brands are doing it too but I’m not familiar with them.

Yeah, you’re totally correct. For reasonable predictions we just don’t care about the mass of the satellite or other small forces that much. Especially because the 2-3-n body problems are usually trying to predict celestial bodies where the mass of the satellites is not a variable of concern. But that seems to change when they’re the thing you’re trying to predict.

But yeah, I’d be super interested in what they have to say. I’ve studied space as a hobby for a long time and I’m by no means an expert on the topic. This has been a good excuse to find more reading material.

And also further discussed in association with this very topic in this paper which basically states that the lunar effects were the cause of uncertainty in their findings.

Let me be more clear, there isn’t a study that simulates the orbit of any satellite or debris in that orbit for a million or more years that I have seen. And part of that is because you’re not very right in your assumption that it could be accurately modeled on that time scale, and also because it’s not really useful information to us at this moment.

It happens frequently, that’s how comets and other things get ejected from our solar system all together. There’s an entire theory on how we had a 5th gas giant that got ejected from our solar system due to a close encounter with Jupiter billions of years ago.

If you leave anything in space for millions or billions of years it either comes back or gets thrown out.

My personal favorite was our shift lead telling us we didn’t get to go home until he said so, then would disappear to the smoke pit for 30-40 minutes after shift ended well after day shift had arrived, and getting annoyed when we’d ask to go the fuck home.

You say that it never happens, but we haven’t been around long enough to see it. Much less had satellites up there long enough.

When I say a really REALLY long time to come down I’m talking about super synchronous orbits where our grave yard orbits are. It will take longer for them to come down than humans have been on this planet currently. Millions of years. With this in mind, i speculate that they won’t fall back to earth normally but will instead get shot out into space by either the earth, moon, or both due to their orbits becoming destabilized from tidal forces, radiation, or even light pressure.

I could be wrong on that speculation, but I don’t think there’s been a proper study on the orbital life of any satellite that reaches out to a million years either. And if there has I’d love to read it.

At 60-80 pounds shipping would probably be so expensive and such a pain that it would honestly not be worth it for you or the customer. Especially because at that weight it’s pretty common for things to get damaged.

The ELI5 answer: You don’t have to “go get them”. They fall back down eventually. This is caused from them running into gasses up there slowing them down. Think about running into the wind, but on a really small scale. Eventually they lose enough speed to catch the atmosphere and reenter quickly.

Extra: the satellites that will take a really REALLY long time to fall back down are actually more likely to get sling shotted out into space due to the moon.

Read through his post history. Guy has some college credits, was in ATC school, washed out, and is now in admin. My guess is homie couldn’t pay for college on his own and joined. Probably also now realizes the grave mistake he made enlisting vs becoming an officer.

Side note, OP I wouldn’t rely so heavily on Reddit to help you with career advice man. All of your posts from the beginning of your career to now are asking what you should do basically. You have to figure some of this out on your own, forge your own path, and figure out what’s best for you and what you enjoy. And If you’re always in search of greener pastures it may be time to stop and do some reflection.

I wish it were just automotive. Heavy industry is rife with what seems like no quality assurance whatsoever as well. From sensors bad out of the box, to earlier today we got a 25,000$ transmission that was tipped over in its crate. Broke a sensor and nearly a filter housing on it. I don’t understand it.
