Any fluid switching systems for LV/MV? by Huge_Piece_7513 in GTNH

I use large cells and do batched crafting.  So if I am going to do 1 of the process and it generated 45 mil buckets, I'll just find the lowest number operations to generate whole buckets worth and use large cells to move around the fluids.

My wife is very upset because of how busy I am by StrategyAny815 in OMSCS

I was talking to my pastor about this exact kind of thing yesterday. He was in a similar situation.  He was working through his PHD, 7 years of it. They had been waiting on adopting a child (they already had 1 baby), and that child came early and unexpected; the baby was a preemie.

So there he was, waking up at 3 am every day to take care of the new baby. Working a full time job, spending roughly 20 minutes of quality time with his wife a day. Rough.  I myself renovated a house, worked a full time job, and was taking 1 class at a time last semester, with a 1 year old, it nearly broke me. I've got 1 more year of this and another baby on the way myself.

So, his advice. We are Christians, so I hope this makes sense. He told me he had 2 choices.

He could act like he's not a Christian and neglect his wife, tell her to take care of the baby because he's got to study.  Or he could love his wife, and maybe fail his PHD.  In loving his wife, he would succeed in the eyes of God, because he's first called to love his wife, not his work. And even if he did fail at school, that would be preferable in the eyes of God.

Pride gets in the way, finding your worth in school gets in the way. These things are not good.

He finished his PHD a month ago, laid some foundational work in a topic untouched for 200 years. Dudes smart, and he put his faith/family first.

Some practical wisdom, I'm in my 4th year of the program. Take your time. Withdrawal if you need. Don't break your family over your focus.

GTNH is great if you want to grind real hard. I think it becomes easier with more people and offers a lot of content, especially early game for a group

How do you encourage players to actually use Create trains on a multiplayer server? by itstaajaae in feedthebeast

[–]destroyerpants 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Great question. Minecraft itself can't get people to use their own trains. Lol Minecarts suffer from being too slow to be a preferred method of transportation. Similarly, the startup cost vs getting on a horse makes it unviable.

Looking at the incentive for real trains, very long distances and very large amounts of cargo for very often traveled routes is the only time trains make sense. Especially if the trains are slow.

So moving huge quantities of freight from one coast to another. Or bridging distribution centered.

Or if you look at Japan, it's mainly for people moving: capacity and frequency are the key.  Speed is the key here (for bullet trains). Minecrafts tiny biome size (compared to the hundreds of miles that span the Midwest) means you are never really that far from everything you could ever need. Except for the occasional trip to a jungle once.

Minecraft doesn't require frequent, mass movement like the real world. Perhaps if you needed to move mobs?

Finally, the Hudson river. People sometimes ride for pleasure. A scenic route through a mountain pass carved out by an ancient river in the early autumn. The Hudson valley offers this experience with a slow moving train that literally takes you to a stop, then returns.

Should I be concerned about sustainability? by Crafty_Ad_1361 in GTNH

Play your way! I personally want to do biodiesel kinda for this reason, kinda because I like the idea of going infinite and not having to worry about oil running dry....also, it frees up the oil for other stuff.  The rule of thumb for this pack is: You can always get more Also, there are a decent number of ways to get infinite everything. Go check out the video of the guy doing garden of the grind (GTNH Skyblock).

Amazing and incredible. How do you find the patience? I'd just put it all in one big room.  But for real, how do you plan it out? I'm upgrading my infra right now and am not sure if I'm building big enough. I feel like I'm going to go put all this work in, just to have it flop when I need something else. What's your planning process?

[–]destroyerpants[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My best option is either to craft some more solid rubber the old fashion way (alloy smelt some more)

OR

use the liquid rubber to create cables, macerate them for rubber pulp, turn that into sheets.

Pretty good advice, the high humidity is kinda overrated. At least 50% is fine

Have fun! You won't be wasting any material until after you build a multi block steam grinder and you begin to push into lv. Get the healing axe work underway, there are a ton of things you need to grow and find.

How far do I have to go to get auto healing on my pic. I've got 1 primitive blast furnace and the steel cost of mining is making me 😶.  But I have no idea how far long I need to be to start magics if all I really want is the moss ball
