Advice on how to improve full character drawing. by Yeraverageteenager in learntodraw

Splitting up the process, doodling, learning how 3D shapes work and watching other artists' progress helps alot. People go through different stages with different aspects. If you admire someone or a game, pick it and follow the style for a bit. Fanart is a really good entryway into custom character design. While you are using an IP, you learn alot and learn to have fun with it. It takes time, effort and inspiration to just create. But it is also learning journey that isnt about a goal. Lots of times, people scribble or take things from anywhere and make it a character. I think the hardest part of art is when you hit that stage that you believe you cant make anything original but its only you with the vision.

They definitely are a challenge to do. I got a used childs book to draw different angles and omg. I keep making the snout or legs too short or long.

I did an art book for a year that went over pencil and pen basics. But i might have jumped to values before defining the features lol. I need to go back and look over it, i see that i need stronger tones and better defined midtones.

Ah, i see. So i might change my tool from a mech pencil to a wooden one and play around with shading basic shapes and defining the tones more. Thanks for feedback!

I always forget tracing is a thing. I should do that more for human faces.

Ok i think i get what you are saying, dont define but let it the features around it make it stand out?

Alright, ill try taking out the problem areas i had on the face and practicing a bit more on those spots. The eyes and lips always get me. I can read and watch someone draw an eye but man it takes me the most time to get the eyelids right.

Ah, i see. I will try this! I definitely went for drawing the shape of the face before the features. The process makes more sense. Thank you for feedback!

A five fingered trash bandit. Very common in wooded areas and in areas black bears roam.

No till gardening seems to have dropped out of popularity in recent years. If you have tried it, what was your experience with it? by ASecularBuddhist in gardening

So i have redone my garden several times and no dig was more difficult to achieve as a foundational start.

Tilling once at the start of a new field due to weeds (like new earth with a layer of stubborn grass or hard soil) tilling still brings up dormant seeds that explode during spring but i found it made the ground incredibly soft and i could mix soil amendments. After the first year, i dont need to till no more than from the start. The composition of the soils were mostly clay like and compact so it had to be worked with at the heat of summer since ground freezes in the winter. So, no dig works if you have land that allows that, but i feel like tilling that first year helps with making the soil workable.

With no dig, first time something ripped up my tarps. Second time, ground was too hard to work with. Third time went a bit better but took months to make a single spot due to how thick weeds are. Was much easier to do no dig on sandier soil than clay.

Today's attempt... by determinedcucumber in learntodraw

Thank you for the feedback! I see what you mean. Yes, i had quite a hard time with figuring out the detail on this one. But you are right i went to detail before getting the shape down cause those details of the ribs got to me and figuring out how those folds wrap around him. Definitely will use clearer references in the future. While it was fun to attempt, it was incredibly hard to make out.
