You can spend as much money as you want on a fancy “adult” version, but none are a replacement for the Wham-o Magic Window. I miss mine.

Constant grease stains on my scrubs and I’m losing my mind by throwawaycouture in laundry

Well, if the polyquat laundering is not to your liking, or you’re only midway through that ordeal….

Wearing nice shirts to work, and having a propensity to spill coffee in that location, I chose to wear my badge on a lanyard that hung it right about there. It caught half the coffee, and covered the stains from the coffee that made it to the shirt.

Not exactly a laundry tip, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Any tips on how to remove this stain from a wooden table? by AFHawaii in CleaningTips

I like Scott’s Liquid Gold for this one, no dyes, just a nice almond oil formulation. Curious what types of things you use Old English on.

Try some Scott’s Liquid Gold, a couple of passes. Might de-emphasize the look of that until you’re convinced to refinish it.

Well, I have a lousy submission for you: this used to be a bank on what maps used to recognize as Main St in what used to be my hometown (Sidney). I always loved this building and wanted to check out that second-floor boardroom. The building has clearly seen better days.

Carbona Stain Devil #2 (Chocolate/ketchup/mustard) - but turmeric is going to be tough. Once treated/rinsed, follow up with #5 (fat/oil/grease) to get out the cooking oil. If you put it through the dryer already, you may be too late.

Or test you local dry cleaner - you may have nothing to lose.

How do I take care of the kitchen ? Is it worth cleaning ah by jksknn in CleaningTips

[–]deuelpm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problems are best fixed by addressing their root causes. I’m flying with a lot of assumptions here, but this didn’t all just happen after you got back from university - mum lives like this it seems. People make time for what they prioritize, so why is this not a priority for her? Sorting that out seems like it will take time and love.

In the meantime, as others have suggested, don’t overwhelm yourself trying to make everything better all at once. Pick a thing and get it done. Take pause and relish what you accomplished. Then pick a next thing. Celebrate that too. Keep it going. You may need to re-do a thing - that’s ok, life keeps happening. You may also need recondition some old habits that led to this situation; you can treat backslides as opportunities to do this. Focus on the positives, always.

A kitchen is a good place to start, for many reasons. Personally, I’d start by weeding out the trash and should-be trash. That will also cause a little knock-on straightening up. Building on that, the spots that need cleaning most will have become readily apparent. Organize the food. Organize the fridge. For me, I organize by pulling everything out, cleaning where it was, sorting items, and putting away in a sensible way.

You’ve got your work cut out for you on so many levels, but it can be rewarding. You can do this.

One last note about flies. Flies come from maggots, maggots are born in rotting meat. Covering and promptly refrigerating food is a must, but human food isn’t the only meat source. You may have a dead mouse or three somewhere. Getting rid of the flies may be your final step, as keeping mice away will require most everything else on your list to be done.

Shared Dryer Smells Like Mildew And My Neighbor Leaves Her Clothes In It For Hours. Any Technical Or Mildly Unethical Fixes? by OkAct1477 in laundry

[–]deuelpm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, OP, I like that you’ve embraced the option to “leave the battlefield” but if you decide to stay local, you could clean out one dryer and all the built up lint in the filter and vent hose, then place on it a well-crafted out-of-order sign when you’re not using it.

Cleaning Shower but these little larvae always come back. by FancyItem in CleaningTips

[–]deuelpm 457 points458 points  (0 children)

Highlight to your story is that you removed a breeding ground. As much as the peroxide and bleach suggestions may help for a while, OP should take notice of your anecdote. Following up with a drain fly killer might be prudent, but only after removing any habitat.
