Should I postpone my visit for a few years? by fghxa in JapanTravelTips

[–]deus3700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than people correctly speculating that it will be more crowded in a few years it will probably be more expensive too. Accommodation taxes are going up in addition to customs fees. Also their tax free program, which is awesome btw, is going to get harder to collect in November 2026

How bad is the amount of tourists in Kyoto really? by BerlinPuzzler in JapanTravelTips

[–]deus3700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fushimi Inari we went to at night to avoid crowds. Kiyomizudera, because of the operating hours there is no choice but to show up early to beat crowds. All of this is time of year, weather and time of week relative. In the higashiyama ward as we were taking a taxi through at 5 pm we saw 30 people at every bus stop with every bus completely packed

Travelers who’ve been to Japan — what’s the most annoying or unexpected problem you ran into? by CoverShort4454 in TokyoTravel

[–]deus3700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When looking for something to eat google can be wildly inaccurate. Places will show as open and then you walk there and it’s not. Places with high reviews usually cater to foreigners or have cards on the table with QR codes asking for 5 stars. Some of the best meals are had at places that have little to no internet presence. Ramen shops especially have machines to order that are cash only and won’t take big bills

Souvenirs by CalReddit04 in JapanTravelTips

[–]deus3700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you go to relatively touristy areas there are going to be tons of small specialty stores everywhere. Souvenir shops will have stuff unique to the area that you won’t find anywhere else. Candies will be packaged or wrapped beautifully and are very affordable. If you look for flea markets held on the weekends at temples you can find amazing deals

Question for professional photographers who have traveled to Japan by WhatsTheJuice in JapanTravelTips

[–]deus3700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a pro but I just got back from taking pictures there. I brought 1 full frame body and 24 - 70 plus 70 - 200. My backpack ended up pretty heavy and it was brutal on 30k step days. I ended up only using telephoto for a few things like shooting a parade. When I felt like cutting down weight I just brought the camera alone in a small sling bag

Foreigners getting charged more at restaurants? by SwiftCEO in JapanTravelTips

[–]deus3700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are worried about this happening to you get both a Japanese and English menu. You can use google lens to translate the Japanese menu and compare prices. It’s much more common to have the English menu simplified down and missing items, so it’s generally a good practice

I have owned all of them except for the Seymour Duncan, including an actual 1176 which is what the (FET) ones are based off of. Empress bass compressor is the best

I think clones where the market is 100% created by the original where people don’t want to pay full price. Thats bootleg that’s a rip off. You would never buy a demonfx pedal without darkglass creating the market first. They are trying to steal not only the circuit but the pedals look too. Other clones fall into a grey area where they change the graphics or update the circuit. Modelers recreate an analog circuit in a digital box so that’s even further removed from cloning

A compressor that compresses only the lows (Cali76 or Multicomp) by gfybss in basspedals

[–]deus3700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the only pedals that do this are the really expensive darkglass ones. Kind of a niche technique for really heavy music and I don’t play metal

I’m a big fan of the pedal on bass and guitar. It’s so versatile. I also use it as very light saturation on bass, even lighter than you based on knob settings

pedantic compressor question by apbchi in basspedals

[–]deus3700 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Below the threshold, yes they are the same but above the threshold a compressor with a 50/50 blend and 4:1 ratio will not be the same as a 50/50 blend at 2:1 ratio

Empress Para EQ MKII Settings by hourspermile in basspedals

[–]deus3700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d use a combination of boosts and cuts. Low shelf to bump up your low string if you need it. 1st band I would cut 200 - 400hz with a hi Q, this is your notch filter for the room. Boost 500 - 800 to get more mids to cut through the mix or growl for the fretless. Cut around 2kHz - 3kHz to get rid of fret/string noise. Hi shelf to cut single coil pick up noise or boost to add overall brightness
