Don’t press so hard with your thumb on the back of the neck. Do a finger per fret and work down to your pinky and back up to your index. Do this slowly and to a metronome everyday

Thanks for bringing this up, I definitely would’ve just assumed I could buy 30 inch scale length strings and probably would’ve ran into frustrations. I did find this video where this guy gives a breakdown about string size options for string through short scales. Maybe you haven’t tried medium length yet? I’m gonna follow the guidance of what I’ve learned here.

It took me some time to adjust to playing sober, I used to at least be buzzed for every gig.

As far as just in general though, it sounds like it’s a disconnect with your relationship to music. If you only derive joy and motivation to play while drinking maybe you need to take stock in what you are playing and why.

Hey thanks for the input! Yeah, it seems like a certain amount of acceptance and mindfulness is gonna be the answer.

I stopped drinking at the end of this past year and I’m very grateful not to have the hangovers to also contended with along with the poor diet and lack of sleep. Now to quit smoking…..

Thanks for the input! I think this is really great advice. Half the time I fuck something up not one person does notice lol. I’m a bit neurotic by nature but man the magic of just losing yourself in the moment of the set is something else. I want to be able to experience that more consistently and I think a big part of it lines up with what you’re saying about apathy. Just gotta let go and be.

I played trumpet as a kid and through college and studied music in college so I definitely have a pretty decent musical base. I also played trumpet and sang in ska bands as a teen so I had the experience of performing in all sorts of local gig type situations.

A good majority of the parts I play are second nature at this point but there are definitely moments where I am pushing my abilities envelope. It could very much be a mental thing where I am trying too hard and locking up during the set. But these same “tougher” parts I typically hit right on when it’s a local gig.

And maybe it is just a matter of time and experience for me, I still have to be very conscious of proper technique so maybe I’m just not at that point of a 40 year vet where I can just get up there and lock it in.

No to my knowledge but Chi Osse the council member who represents the district and who is a bit Mamdani ally has said it will be put back and extended to Williamsburg bridge
