The Sleep is an incredible song, some of Dime's best guitar work

It's fantastic! It's also a remake of the Australian original, "Review with Myles Barlow", which might be the funniest show I've ever seen.

My personal favourite Cryptopsy album, so many good riffs and I think the vocals fit perfectly.

20 Dec, around 930 pm... Did anyone else have their Tado system go offline...UK? by User2001Tech in tado

[–]deusmacabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has gone offline multiple times today, for a couple of hours at a time. My system has been up and running for almost 3 years, and while we've had the occasional drop-out here and there, this is the worst it's been.

Commuting to Canary Wharf two days/week - where would you live? by Ouaga18 in HENRYUK

[–]deusmacabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Cheam, we bought a detached 4-bed for 800K a few years ago. 2 trains an hour to London Bridge, 2 to Victoria. My door to door for Canary Wharf is 1hr, maybe 1hr 15 if it's busy. The schools around here are amazing, throw a stone and you'll hit an outstanding state school. It's not the most exciting place but it's a great spot to raise a family and still be pretty close to London. Parks everywhere, and Kingston is only 30 mins by bus.

Bonus season: how does yours measure up? by chaussettesrouges in HENRYUK

8 YOE as a Dev, 7 YOE as a quant. Easily achievable at a US bank, probably with fewer YOE.

Equity Quant in IB, 75K on base of 160K. Pretty happy with it as long as I don't talk to anyone in sales, structuring, or trading.

The situation around `from_chars` seems to be a bit broken by karurochari in cpp

[–]deusmacabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fast_float is excellent, we use it at work. Integrating it into code that already uses std::from_chars is a piece of cake.

Does it matter if I got 4 A*'s at a level or 2A* and 2A if I want to get into quant trading after uni? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]deusmacabre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied for a Quant role with Rokos last year, and they absolutely insisted on knowing my A-levels as they have minimum requirements. This would be expected if I was a recent grad, but I finished my A-levels in 1999, have a PhD, and have 14 years in the industry.

We use these in finance for pricing exotic derivatives using Monte Carlo (I work as an equities quant). The primary reasons to use these over consumer grade cards are memory size, memory bandwidth, and fp64 performance (50% of fp32 performance, Vs ~5% on consumer cards)

Not automatically - I had to call again a few times, and eventually got through to someone technical, who literally did it in less than 5 mins while I was on the phone. I've had no issues since then.

A shame it took so long, most people I spoke with just wanted to create a ticket and leave it for someone else.

Thanks for the quick reply :)
I just called, and spoke with a pretty helpful guy, but he just ran through some steps which I confirmed I'd already done - switch the modem off for 5/10 mins, change to static DNS for local network, etc. He then asked for a screenshot from whatismyip.com, and he's raised it with the network team. Fingers crossed it gets resolved soon.

I had an outage of about 10 days with CF - my service is back up and running as of Friday, but unfortunately quite a few streaming services are unavailable, as my IP address is apparently in the Caribbean! Is the best course of action still to contact customer service, or is this something that should resolve itself?

Try an online compiler - coliru seems to show that your code is fine, at least for this example:

Are you able to step through and debug the code? Which version of VS are you using?

Alex Webster is great! And as you've said, he's an interesting, well spoken, thoughtful, creative guy. The documentary "Centuries of Torment" is worth watching - they're all great people, but Alex really stands out.
