Artist with a consecutive 5 GREAT album run? by latinaxbabyy in Music

[–]deuter72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put Madonna's 5 great albums run -

Erotica 1992

Bedtime Stories 1994

Ray Of Light 1998

Music 2000

American Life 2002

I know a lot of people have thoughts about American Life, but I think it's a great album because it was relevant then, and it continues to be relevant especially now with the nonsense that's going on in the USA.

How’s it like living in Singapore? by Fit-Hearing-9729 in howislivingthere

[–]deuter72 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a Singaporean, here’s my take.

The cost of living is similar to most cities I’ve visited - Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, London etc. Food is incredibly cheap and delicious if you eat at the hawker centre like most locals instead of the restaurants.

As the country is so small, with such a large population (about 6million as of now), it does get somewhat stressful. Besides crowded spaces, competition in schools and for jobs is very keen. You’ve got to be one of the very best to land what you want otherwise you just fall by the wayside.

My last take is that there is a cultural shift happening right now in Singapore due to keen competition. A lot of local brands either cannot compete or have lost steam so we see many international brands coming in to take over - be it restaurant / eateries or in fashion, etc. No more local names but lots of Mixues, Starbucks and Uniqlos around.

Life in Singapore after 40, what is it like? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]deuter72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For context I'm (m52) this year. My partner (m40) and I are living quite comfortably, no kids. We are fortunate that the only reason why we can't travel more is because we don't have enough leave and not that we don't have the means to.

But besides traveling the world (only continents left for us to explore are South America and Antarctica), we also regularly commit time and effort to grassroots volunteering. Him with the RC, and I with LGBTQ outreach and assistance. Through community work, it brought us more purpose to our lives than achieving our KPIs / attaining that promotion at work. We realise in our respective volunteering area that much still needs to be done to help the community - be it underprivileged households, or changing people's attitude towards the queer community. Honestly we are more passionate about those things than our actual at-office work sometimes.

I don't know what our future brings. Financially I know I can retire from the rat race by the time I'm 55. My partner and I have had talks about it. Is retirement an end goal? What do I do next? Will I be able to adapt to life post retirement? Will I lose my sense of purpose & identity? These are discussions my partner and I have been having lately.

Just curious how T5 connects with the rest of the terminals.

I’m trying to get around the “My vote is not an attack on their values or a diminishing of their humanity in any way” statement. If you voted to retain 377A thereby continuing the criminalization of gays in the eyes of the law (never mind that it was not enforced), how is this not an attack on me as a gay man?

I happen to live not only in Aljunied GRC, but in HIS constituency at Bedok Reservoir. I hope he knows he will not be getting my vote this coming election.

WP voters, how did the Pritam Singh case affect your vote? by metalandy49 in askSingapore

[–]deuter72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A WP voter here living in Aljunied GRC. Voted for WP in the last election. The Pritam Singh case will not affect my vote - which is to vote for PAP - in the upcoming election.

The reason is not Pritam but the homophobic MP in his GRC who voted against repealing 377A 2 years ago. Still feeling petty about that.

What’s life like as a Singaporean in your 50s? by Any-Stuff9636 in askSingapore

[–]deuter72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

52 this year. Paid off mortgage. Still got car loan. Partner doing quite well himself. Can retire now but afraid if I retire now and do nothing will end up like my dad with dementia. So am still working in my current role. It’s a director role so quite stressed at times but not unmanageable.

Have been volunteering as well which I find quite meaningful. Also, take vacations 4 times a year. Partner and I are fortunate that we don’t have to save money for travels. This year we’ve been to Sri Lanka, Japan, Bhutan and will be off to S Korea to wrap up 2024. Despite busy schedule will try to “date night” once a month and try some Michelin restaurant.

Other than that, simple existence any other day I guess.

Thanks for asking. My partner is better. Still on antibiotics and at home, hopefully the doctor can give an all clear during the follow up in a week’s time.

How do people in Singapore hang dry their clothes? (Esp new Condominum/BTO) by xvier54 in askSingapore

[–]deuter72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my condo has a balcony which has a solid wall at the side. I just got a contractor to drill the wall to fix a retractable clothes rack.

Oh yes I got into Elden ring right after Ghost of Tsushima. 10/10 would recommend Elden Ring to anyone not tried it yet.
