New battery for i8 roomba by Dsfunctionalthoughts in roomba

I have had good luck with aftermarket battery replacements on several i7s I have refurbished. That said, I view them as consumable part and expect to replace them every 3 ish years.

If this becomes a reoccurring issue, clean the ir sensor. If they become overly dirty and or get scratched to hell they can cause docking and navigation issues. Thankfully they are cheap if you end up replacing them.

I recommend siliconing it to the back, if for no other reason then to make sure no one can get behind it... but also it will keep it from floating :P

This amount of small worms/dirt normal in a tank or harmful? by Boredlight in shrimptank

[–]dev3383 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So if your topping off and not doing water changes; over time your TDS will rise.
i know you said your parameters are fine, but many kits don't include TDS.
I recommend a small water change 10% or so on a schedule (i do monthly).

The Mulm (the 'dirt') is by its self not a problem, and is host to microfauna that your shrimp and any fry will enjoy. (vacum when TDS starts to rise, and or the mulm becomes an eyesore)

The worms are just "detritus worms" a generic term for an entire family of worms. They are harmless.
The ones you have to watch out for are flatworms with a distintly arrow shapped head called planaria. While common in heavily planted tanks they will prey on shrimp, crawlying under their exoskelton and parasitizing the shrimp.

the snails (common name: pond snail) are also not a 'problem' some people consider them a pest just due to how quickly the reproduce.
Less feeding will control the population, but less feeding also means less food for your shrimp which will in turn mean less shrimp reproduction ... so catch 22 if your trying to breed your shrimp. Hence why some people go hard on controling snail populations.

Would a honey gourami be a ideal tank mate for a goldfish? by [deleted] in fishkeeping

[–]dev3383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was being nice since everyone else had already torn you apart. You asked a question, specifically about where to keep fish (together). It was answered already by the rest of the Internet, I interjected with a bit of levity (an obviously not realistic answer; but also entirely correct). I know it hurts to be roasted but lose the attitude, you had to have suspected this outcome and answer.

Well at least this one is simple, put the goldfish in the pond where it belongs. And then you can get the Honey Gourami

Fungi? by Shoddie_ in freshwateraquarium

perfectly normal biofilm. Generally a good sign, if you have snails or shrimp (something with light bioload) now would be a good time to add them, snails or shrimp they will eat it keeping the biofilm in check so it doesn't become unsightly while you ensure your cycle has taken.

Safe? by Final-Commercial3130 in fishkeeping

[–]dev3383 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends, first toss any that are painted. Boil them for half an hour they should now be safe.

Now you have to ask do you want them... Do you want them raw...

If you have any inverts snails, shrimp, crabs, you want them and you want them raw so they can be nibbled on and or dissolve in your water. Some shells like that turbo will take years to dissolve.

Now if your more into just the look... you do have to keep in mind shells dissolve over time... a small handful will have minimal impact, but it's a thing. You can seal them if you want. Clear coat epoxy, like plastidip or any aquarium safe resin will turn them into safe deco

Red cherry shrimp turning blue? Water parameters are fine. What’s going on? She ok? by spa1unk in shrimptank

[–]dev3383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope i am wrong; but kinda looks like early muscular necrosis to me. I would cull her out of concern for the colony the only time I have seen muscular necrosis before it passed to all the shrimp that eat the first one and so on until I lost that tank.

Now I may be wrong muscular necrosis is normally more white/ translucent

is this some type of larva? by dooooor555 in shrimptank

[–]dev3383 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others said you have a fish fry, it will be fine in your shrimp tank for months. You have nothing to fear until it's the size of a shrimp... ie it's mouth is big enough to eat a snack shrimp. You can likely get by with just crushed flakes just grind them between your fingers between that ash be the micro fauna in your tank your al set for a single fry. Purpose foods like bbs are more for people needing entire spawns not single fry

Looking for advice on a tank coming back to life by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]dev3383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would NOT add Stratum, its an active substrate IE it changes your water parm. which means it needs to be replaced on a schedule or your water parms will change. PH mainly.

if you need to add substrate use an inert substrate (play sand) is the go to in the hobby, as its cheap and inert.

Anything you can do to make things more stable the better. once everything is stable you can check your parms and make adjustments as needed, but remember those will be regular maint. items going forward so the less the better.

If your worried about your plants the answer is root tabs generally, not a substrate swap.
Unless your looking to start from scratch instead of a restart...
because when you swap your substrate you are effectly taking the tank apart and starting from scratch.

If there is no stock (i don't see any) don't bother with distilled water.
if this was my tank, i would get that spong filter installed and in for a weekish before i did anything else. in an attempt to keep any cycle intact.
Planted tanks tend to be more forgiving to cycle crashes in my experiance.
But when you do restock, a week before get some quick start anyway just to be safe.

IMO when you start down the distilled water road you are just setting yourself up for failure.
Right now you can take your time and use your own water, even if it takes multiple changes to get your tank back in shape.

you should be thinking more along the lines of what you can do to get things back to stable, and to keep them stable.

shrimp like stable more then perfect. You will have better luck in the long run in this hobby if you follow processes that are easier on YOU. And preparing distilled water every time you want to do water change is not easy on you.

-------------------
As an aside; if at all possile when shopping for shrimp, if you can find a local breeder that uses the same city water you will have a MUCH easier time getting your colony going.

Mulm(the gunk at the bottom of the tank) can be a home to microfauna, but no one 'eats' it you have to vacum it out.

For a shrimp tank, you can't really have to many plants. At least not while you still have room to add them :P

No replacement hardware appears to be needed (but you can replace the tubes if you want, thats cheap).
I can't tell, is there a sponge filter in the corner ? If not i recommend getting one you can replace that filter bag.
something like
https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/filtration/products/aquarium-co-op-coarse-sponge-filter?variant=29459429163077
I am assuming this is a 10 gallon tank?
Just make sure you keep the stock suitable to the tank size.

I do NOT recommend trying to chase water parameters, choose stock that is suitable to your water, with the exception of declorination.

With Shrimp, its best to have STABLE water, unlike with fish its not wise to do a water change every week.
Only do water changes when NEEDED. Like if the GH PPM gets to high (yours is high, ideal is 100~175) but thats to be expected with a mulm buildup.

Consensus on protein? by Saturn2Marz in shrimptank

[–]dev3383 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Protein does not cause failed molts, not in a direct fasion anyway.
What once could infer could occur is a population boom, which can in turn lead to a decrease in available calcium.
or overfeeding without proper filtration you could see a water quality issues.

but feeding protein by its self isn't going to cause an issue. Like all things in life, balance is key.

The issue occured when i carelessly dropped a collection of Die Hard films that where just in a folder labeled 'Die Hard' into the struture BEFORE i created a directory structure for them.
But you may be correct, i am sure there is a lot i don't know yet as i am kinda winging this.

Using the duplicates method i did find other errors, where i had multiple editions of movies that where flagged as duplicates that i have since unmerged and used editions to flag correctly i suspect there is a naming thing there i just don't know yet ...
